  1. Absolutely. They are a live band. The studio recordings take away everything great about the band and are only a shell of what the band is. I'd be curious to know how many of the people that have voted for the Pumpkins have actually seen DMB live and/or know that there is so much beyond the surface of their radio hits. Seems like lots of people here dislike DMB based on their opinion of other people that are fans of the band instead of making up their mind after actually listening to them theirselves. I can repsect different tastes in music but to vehemently hate DMB is just unbelieveable to me. I mean, I don't like Crash (Into Me) that much but I am aware that it isn't their only song! Too each their own though. 8) I think it's quite snobbish of you to insinuate that those who voted for the Pumpkins just aren't informed enough about DMB's greatness. I've listened to a ton of DMB at one time or another. I've never seen them live, but I haven't seen 90% of the bands in this poll live. Well, probably more than that actually. I find this kind of attitude in a lot of DMB die hards. I've got a couple friends that are incredulous when you turn down a chance to see them in concert or don't participate in a proverbial circle jerk when discussing the band. I think they've made some nice music. They aren't anywhere close to a rock band, however, and they aren't the greatest band in the world. They have a fantastic effect on the young ladies and are a perfectly suitable band to listen to on a camping trip or bonfire of some sorts. I like SP better. I agree it's a little out there to suggest you need to have seen a band live before you have the right to dislike them... The "you have to see them live" argument was stolen from the Grateful Dead and Phish fans
  2. Geez, think Pax is happy about the signing?
  3. I disagree. I think Jack White is a great guitar player
  4. I love the violin. Boyd Tinsley is great. The sax isn't too overpowering or anything and I enjoy how it blends in. I really like Some Devil a lot though. It's a lot of slower music, but it's good if I'm in that kind of mood. I think DMB is a lot better live than studio. As previously mentioned, give the Live at Luther College CD a listen. You shouldn't be disappointed. I have the Live in Central Park CD. That about covers all my DMB needs
  5. With all due respect, that award goes to Meg White. no, she is barely breathing
  6. I don't remember the last time that every MLB team didn't start a 4 game series on the Thursday after the ASB. How is it fair that some teams (like the Cubs) get an extra day off?
  7. My favorite band of all time (Pink Floyd) has the most "barely competent" drummer in rock history.
  8. You clearly miss the point of the White Stripes To play poorly and make millions? I'd like to see any 6 month vet of the guitar play Ball and a Biscuit. Jack White's minimilistic style is just ironic because he's actually a fantastic Blues and Rock guitarist. Exactly. The point is they sound like anyone who plugs in in the garage and cranks it to 11. You call it "sloppy", I call it "not processed through ProTools 173 times before going on the CD"
  9. I like Some Devil better than any DMB stuff. The violin and sax get a bit tired after awhile
  10. You clearly miss the point of the White Stripes
  11. who let the Cards fan in?
  12. I'd like to point out that neither of these gentlmen is a Rock Band.
  13. Glad Frusciante is back in the band. Navarro-era RHCP wasn't that good. And I like Navarro
  14. I haven't heard the double disc, but the 5 song sampler of his college tour eith Tim (included in the first pressing of "Some Devil") is awesome. "Grey Street" is 100x better acoustic than with the band
  15. when i was in college back in the late 90's) it was the same thing but replace DMB with Phish or Blues Traveller I wish I were at your college. Mine was like CFICT's apparently. I couldn't get away from DMB. Well, I guess it was mid-90's. I was at DePaul from 92-96, so basically before DMB broke big
  16. White Stripes fan I take it?
  17. This was a really tough choice. Musicianship vs. Song Writing. I think Billy Joe is a better writer, but I really like McCready and Gossard (or is it Gossage? No, that's a baseball player). I pick Pearl Jam on a buzzer beating full court shot
  18. when i was in college back in the late 90's) it was the same thing but replace DMB with Phish or Blues Traveller
  19. OF is way easier to fill than 3B, so no way on Aram for Burrell
  20. i blame the lack of drugs and alcohol
  21. I've only seen Pearl Jam live once, (and never seen GD) but I thought it was outstanding. I think I'm in the minority as a big PJ fan. Green Day is fine, but they're nothing special to me. McCready and Gossard are completely underrated guitar players. Vedder is great when he sings, terrible when he does his "all one note that's not a note" vocals.
  22. I won't argue that a lot of Aerosmith's songs sound similar (Amazin' is right there w/ Crazy and Crying for me), but they're in a poll against the White Stripes. Are you saying a lot of their songs don't sound similar? I'm not really a fan of the White Stripes at all. I just think Aerosmith is one of the most overrated bands of all human history. There are some songs by each group that I like, but neither is my favorite band. I just found your argument about the similarity of songs being a strike against Aerosmith to be interesting when the other option was the WS. I defy you to find two songs that sound alike on "Get Behind Me Satan'
  23. Dave Grohl plays as hard as anyone since Bonham live. He just hits the crap out of the drums. His work on the Queens of the Stone Age album is great too. My favorite drummers border on the obscure. Scott Churilla, Brain, Josh Garza, Taz Bentley. Neil Peart is the worst kind of show off. I really, really hate drummers with 97 drums for no good reason. You don't need 5 bass drums! Alex Van Halen is pushing it in this regard too.
  24. well they really jumped the shark when they hired people to write their songs for them.
  25. Tool shut out so far? I'm shocked. Okay, not really, I just posted this 30 minutes ago, but still!
