  1. do we get a compensation pick without offering arbitration? I'm unclear on how the new CBA works
  2. Woody Page (of all people) had a good argument against a UM/OSU rematch. Basically, he said that Michigan has had their shot and OSU proved to be better. Now it's time to let someone else try. Why give Michigan two chances while giving another team none?
  3. that's a 2005 Cubs offseason caliber move

  5. bounce back? He lead the league in hits. That's about as good as he gets
  6. it's amazing how inconsistent the voting is. When Sosa won it, people were clamoring for McGwire because of better numbers. Now we see the reverse, with the guy with better numbers losing to the guy on the better team. pujols had a better VORP, a better EqA, better OPS, and a better WARP3. and if anyone who voted knows what 2 of those are, i'll eat my hat please tell me your hat is a PSU football helmet currently it's a foam Nittany Lion's head http://www.nflnut.com/store/media/FoamHeadPennstate.jpg
  7. so did Burnitz and Blauser. How did they work out?

  10. Odd. I wonder why they would do that. Because they plan on having another deal done before then, thus allowing them to have a mega-conference about all the moves. or because they're trading A-Ram for Jerry Hairston Jr.
  11. Not something new, but something that's new to Cubbie fans. We're not used to keeping track of how many top-tier FA's we sign. :D the reason he hasn't heard of the A/B thing in the past is that the Cubs usually sign F and G tier free agents
  12. The Cards wouldn't have made the playoffs without AP. i agree. He was pivotal in winning 83 games
  13. howard almost carried the Phillies to the wildcard after the GM gave the team up for dead
  14. well without firecode rules, they could squeeze 50,000+ into Wrigley, so they could sell the tickets for less
  15. or a lineup with Walker, Lee, Ramirez, Alou, Sosa and Barrett in it
  16. I thought Schmidt was keen on playing on the west coast?
  17. pierre is gone. jones/murton is unanswered
  18. I imagine the press conference will be tomorro. He's supposed to be taking a physical today. I hope his blood pressure is in acceptable ranges after potentially making his children's children rich. he'll make more money in his first game than I have made in my lifetime
  19. I voted DiGiorno's, only because we can't get Homerun Inn here in PA
  20. Cats are for people that are too lazy to care about their pets. They are goldfish with fur. I prefer a pet who actually likes me and plays with me, not one that thinks it's better than me. Dogs for the win
  21. and Beltran sucked his first year with the Mets (OPS+ of 95)
  22. This is a good point. Some of the contracts that seemed way out of line when they were signed, are looking better now. Player contracts are trending up so it might take some of the sting off this one, down the road. That's what people thought when Hampton, Giambi, Jeter, and A-Rod signed their contracts 5-7 years ago. and of those, A-Rod's isn't really that bad IMO
  23. I disagree. I think if Arkansas runs the table in the SEC (or Florida wins the SEC title) they should go in over USC. Yes, Arkansas lost to USC, I know, but the SEC is a better conference that the Pac-10 and USC lost to an unranked team.
  24. I think that at the very least, the front office mantra has shifted from "trying to stay competitive in the division" to "trying to make the playoffs". A few more good signings will move that up to "contending for a championship"
