  1. Which a lot of coaches do to some extent anyway because of the pollsters... i'm sensitive to this because of 1994 when PSU's 3rd string defense allowed a couple of late TD's to Indiana while Nebraska ran up the score in the same week, which led to pollsters dropping PSU from #1 to #2; they never recovered, and went on to destroy Oregon in the Rose Bowl while Nebraska played #3 Miami in the other bowl and then won the NC
  2. margin of victory should NOT be part of the BCS formula. it only encourages coaches to keep their starters in all game and run up the scores against hapless opponents.
  3. i changed my mind. i definitely want to watch the Cubs in the playoffs* *I reserve the right to change my mind 12 more times this season
  4. cool. next year, we just won't have wins or losses and we'll nominate you to decide who "deserves" to be there
  5. i'm as big a morelli basher as anyone, but he's been pretty good this year. 8 TD, 1 INT, 63% completion. he can go all grossman on you under pressure, but let's not paint him as some horribly incompetent QB He's had to face the defensive powers Florida International, Buffalo and Notre Dame so far this year. And he had a 54.5 comp% with a whopping 131 passing yards against ND. Last year he had a comp% of 53.9 for the year and had only 11 TD's in 13 games. He had 0 TD passes in 6 of their 13 games last year. Do you know how many TD passes he had against UM, UW, and OSU last year? 0. There were 88 other quarterbacks in Division I-A with a better QB rating last year than Morelli had and 71 QB's with more TD passes than he had. And I'm going to guess that Morelli is going to be under a hell of a lot more pressure from Michigan's defense than he was under in his first three games this year. PSU's refusal to throw the ball downfield is a little maddening this year. Everything seems to be underneath routes and screens. Perhaps Galen Hall (OC) has zero faith in Morelli's accuracy downfield
  6. Aramis Ramirez has cemented his place as my favorite Cub. so proud to wear my #16 jersey
  7. i just don't understand why the hell an average monday night football game outdoes HUGE postseason stretch baseball games for the first 13 (and counting) minutes of the show. wtf. because you have to watch the highlights of the game you just watched
  8. I just listened to that song 15 times in a row on my ipod...(followed by "when the Cubs go Marching in"...my wife thinks I need help... :D you do, that song sucks
  9. i am thrilled to not be starting tomorrow's thread
  10. on a double switch, lou walked half way to the mound first, then back to the ump to give him the switch
  11. holy crap, can you imagine missing the playoffs because you lost a game under protest?
  12. almost woke up the kids there
  13. GOD DAMN I love Aramis Ramirez
  14. DROP THAT SOAP DROP THAT SOAP DROP THAT SOAP
  15. this is a really dumb post
  16. i'm as big a morelli basher as anyone, but he's been pretty good this year. 8 TD, 1 INT, 63% completion. he can go all grossman on you under pressure, but let's not paint him as some horribly incompetent QB
  17. They probably won't. But they do care on how much value they will be getting for the Cubs. it just seems that some people are arguing Cuban over Cannings based on what would be best for the team, where the Trib is just going to do what's best for them
  18. I don't know how much UM will win by but I feel pretty confident saying they will beat Penn State. based on? I don't think Penn State is very good, UM has the better starting QB and offense in general, and the game is at the Big House. i think this year proves that being at the Big House has little to no effect on the game
  19. I think any team that goes 12-0, unless it like a Hawaii situation, deserves some kudos because it's a tough thing to do. the question is would a 0 loss Penn State team going to have a better case than one loss LSU and one loss UF teams? The answer is probably not. in the current system, absolutely. undefeated trumps one loss just about every time (when talking about BCS conference teams)
  20. I don't know how much UM will win by but I feel pretty confident saying they will beat Penn State. based on?
  21. i'm not sure why anyone here thinks that the Trib really cares what the new ownership group will do with the team once it's sold.
  22. the usual: Rose: Big 10 champ vs. Pac 10 champ Orange: ACC champ vs. At Large Fiesta: Big 12 champ vs. At Large Sugar: SEC champ vs. At Large Big East is the only BCS conference that doesn't "host" a BCS bowl game, and, of course, if the #1 and #2 teams in the country are conference champs, then more at-larges will get into these 4 bowls
  23. We've got a lead in the division and what should(Key word)be a cake-walk schedule the rest of the way. Oh yeah, and it's mid september. I think it's about time that we can start talking about this stuff. with a one game lead and a week of games against teams we haven't been able to beat much?
  24. regardless, the Cubs are tied for 4th in the majors in team WHIP, so the walks aren't skewing anything
  25. i'm on deck as game starter and would very much like to not start my next game thread until next season :)
