  1. can we please enter the 21st century and cut spring training down to 2 or 3 weeks? it's unnecessarily long these days
  2. LYNCHED? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/Artadius/ThatsRacist.gif
  3. so Fukodome is going to be.....Mark Grace?
  4. wish they would build a new park here, but the mayor has already said that the current owner will never be allowed to build a new park in nashville...fantastic. btw, cooper stadium, their old ballpark, looks nicer than greer. i was spoiled by Medlar Field and Blair County Ballpark back in PA. I imagine there are some utter trash heaps for stadiums in this coutnry
  5. Miami cuts a pile of ex-Bears, including Marty Booker
  6. dusty's order is always: 1. CF 2. 2B 3. 1B 4. RF 5. 3B 6. LF 7. SS 8. C
  7. I'd rather take Malcolm Kelly. I'd draft Jackson ahead of Kelly. Why? I really don't know that his slight build will handle the rigors of the NFL and as someone else said, he loses some of his value on the Bears since Hester is a better returner. He's more explosive and athletic than anyone in the draft, Kelly is more of as possession WR and Jackson is the HR threat. The Bears need someone who can create in open space. Devin Hester is good after the catch, assuming he can catch the ball. Bradley is good after the catch, assuming he can get on the field. I'd say the Bears need a possession WR. Hester, Bradley, and if you bring him back Berrian are all HR threats. The Bears need somebody to give them what Moose was supposed to. I agree. They need a Welker-type more than anything. Its also important that they develop Olson. when is Joe Jurevicius a free agent?
  8. Um...what? 1) Lofton is still a potentially useful player (albeit limited), so there would be no need to save a GM from signing him. 2) Hendry has never been reported to be interested in Lofton. That has been a creation of NSBB. So even if somebody needed saving, it would be the board not Hendry. i don't need Hendry signing a 41 year old CF so he can trade our 22 year old CF prospect
  9. i hear they're building a new park for the Clippers here in Columbus. the old one is a total and complete dump
  10. yet another GM may save Hendry from himself here
  11. they can have Murton. i'd be pretty comfortable thinking he won't do much in Baltimore either
  12. with all the talk of the O's 40-man roster issues, who would fill the voids left on the Cubs roster if we do a 3 or 4-for-1 trade for Roberts?
  13. Lofton and Bruce both bat left-handed. How are they going to platoon? Lofton vs. all veterans, Bruce vs. all 1st or 2nd year pitchers. Close. Bruce would get all of the tough veteran pitchers who would make him look bad. can't trust Bruce to face the young pitchers, as we don't have the book on them yet
  14. does this mean we'll be signing the guy(s) we sent over there to minor league deals soon as well?
  15. that's like asking "if two people own the same car but one has 2 speeding tickets and the other doesn't, which is more likely to speed?" more like "if two people own the same car but one has two speeding tickets, which one is more likely to violently murder his entire family?" Or even "If two people own the same car but one has a speeding ticket, which one is more likely to use illegal drugs?" Or sometimes "If two people own the same car but one has a speeding ticket, does this dress make my butt look big?"
  16. There's absolutely zero doubt that people eat better now and are healthier. Bill James did an interesting experiment once. He looked up the average size of each Champion team. To quote: best Freudian slip ever
  17. that's like asking "if two people own the same car but one has 2 speeding tickets and the other doesn't, which is more likely to speed?"
  18. i would wager a guess that the high school kids of today eat better than the pros of the 20's, training or no training. the general quality of food is better, and a lot of the meat/milk/etc. they consume is from livestock full of growth hormones
  19. he had the worst OBP. SLG and OPS of his career in 2007
  20. Ha Ha Ha. Sure, why not?
  21. oh great, someone fixed the thread title. might as well lock it now
  22. as good as crosby, maybe better. people are sorta starting to figure this out since crosby has been out and malkin has pretty much put the team's scoring on his shoulders. I really wonder what Pittsburgh will do for the next few years. Putting Malkin on Crosby's wing makes him a less effective (still great nonetheless) player but putting him on the 2nd line is going to limit the ice time for both great players and then you have Jordan Staal and in a year or two when he fully breaks out they're really not going to have enough ice time to go around, some of these guys' talent will be squandered when they can't get on the ice enough. You have to wonder if Staal gets dealt for a winger. Jaromir Jagr did just fine as Mario's wingman
  23. I think any reasonable person would say yes. Wouldn't any reasonable person also say that if he used steroids (its clearly obvious to you and 'reasonable' people since you can say that without a doubt) his name would have been mentioned in at least one of the reports so far. The best evidence they have against him so far is that someone overheard him talking to some other people about what they would do if/when amphetamines, not steroids, were banned. I don't know. I know I'm a total Sammy Homer, but the longer he goes without having his name brought up at all in any semi-credible steroid report, the more doubt it should instill in ones mind that he ever did actually use steroids. you can't put him in any report unless someone directly related to his using steroids has given sworn testimony. there are a great number of alleged steroid users not named in the Mitchell Report or BALCO hearings
  24. i think you guys put way too much weight on draft position. how is, say, Brohm a different play at pick 18 than he is at pick 14? you draft for need, period
