  1. Lofton and Bruce both bat left-handed. How are they going to platoon? Lofton vs. all veterans, Bruce vs. all 1st or 2nd year pitchers. Close. Bruce would get all of the tough veteran pitchers who would make him look bad. can't trust Bruce to face the young pitchers, as we don't have the book on them yet
  2. does this mean we'll be signing the guy(s) we sent over there to minor league deals soon as well?
  3. that's like asking "if two people own the same car but one has 2 speeding tickets and the other doesn't, which is more likely to speed?" more like "if two people own the same car but one has two speeding tickets, which one is more likely to violently murder his entire family?" Or even "If two people own the same car but one has a speeding ticket, which one is more likely to use illegal drugs?" Or sometimes "If two people own the same car but one has a speeding ticket, does this dress make my butt look big?"
  4. There's absolutely zero doubt that people eat better now and are healthier. Bill James did an interesting experiment once. He looked up the average size of each Champion team. To quote: best Freudian slip ever
  5. that's like asking "if two people own the same car but one has 2 speeding tickets and the other doesn't, which is more likely to speed?"
  6. i would wager a guess that the high school kids of today eat better than the pros of the 20's, training or no training. the general quality of food is better, and a lot of the meat/milk/etc. they consume is from livestock full of growth hormones
  7. he had the worst OBP. SLG and OPS of his career in 2007
  8. Ha Ha Ha. Sure, why not?
  9. oh great, someone fixed the thread title. might as well lock it now
  10. as good as crosby, maybe better. people are sorta starting to figure this out since crosby has been out and malkin has pretty much put the team's scoring on his shoulders. I really wonder what Pittsburgh will do for the next few years. Putting Malkin on Crosby's wing makes him a less effective (still great nonetheless) player but putting him on the 2nd line is going to limit the ice time for both great players and then you have Jordan Staal and in a year or two when he fully breaks out they're really not going to have enough ice time to go around, some of these guys' talent will be squandered when they can't get on the ice enough. You have to wonder if Staal gets dealt for a winger. Jaromir Jagr did just fine as Mario's wingman
  11. I think any reasonable person would say yes. Wouldn't any reasonable person also say that if he used steroids (its clearly obvious to you and 'reasonable' people since you can say that without a doubt) his name would have been mentioned in at least one of the reports so far. The best evidence they have against him so far is that someone overheard him talking to some other people about what they would do if/when amphetamines, not steroids, were banned. I don't know. I know I'm a total Sammy Homer, but the longer he goes without having his name brought up at all in any semi-credible steroid report, the more doubt it should instill in ones mind that he ever did actually use steroids. you can't put him in any report unless someone directly related to his using steroids has given sworn testimony. there are a great number of alleged steroid users not named in the Mitchell Report or BALCO hearings
  12. i think you guys put way too much weight on draft position. how is, say, Brohm a different play at pick 18 than he is at pick 14? you draft for need, period
  13. yeah, i couldn't watch that highlight. the one from the goalie in the 80's nearly gave me nightmares. i'm glad ESPN warned me so i could look away
  14. i think the fact that no deal has happened in the 2 1/2 months since this thread started is evidence that Hendry won't trade just anyone for Roberts
  15. Derrek Lee 2005 Fewest RBI in history for someone with 99 XBH why? Patterson/Neifi batting 1/2 ahead of him
  16. The first two entries used grittiness and CERA as factors. FAIL
  17. It was just a mere two weeks ago that IU fans were telling me that Purdue will get crushed in their only meeting this year. I think they're starting to sweat a little bit now. I still have a hard time buying into the Purdue thing since they struggled against my hawkeyes at Purdue, who are very bad. The same Hawkeyes that beat Michigan State. IU struggled at Illinois who are really bad too. Purdue did anything but struggle at Wisconsin. They are an extremely young team that has only lost once in conference play and that was at Michigan State by 3 points. If they beat the Spartans at Mackey this week and pull off a stunner in Bloomington next week they have a great chance at the Big Ten title. Purdue's defense was stifling against penn state. PSU could barely pass the ball around the court much less get it inside or get a decent shot off. it's shocking that Purdue remains unranked (thought that HAS to change this week)
  18. May 5-7, Sept 5-7. These two series are Cubs @ Cincy. Who's going?
  19. Which is exactly why I want him at PSU. That and I hate OSU more than any other Big Ten school that doesn't have a Wolverine for a mascot. Really, I just think that if he's really that good, he could make a huge difference at OSU. I just don't think PSU, even with Pryor, is going to be a contender in the next 4 years. Maybe I'm wrong. good point. i'll take him sitting on the bench at PSU if it keeps him off the field for OSU
  20. while i'd be thrilled if Penn State got him, I cringe at the knowledge that he would be buried 4 deep in the depth chart because JoePa NEVER plays underclassmen over upperclassmen. EVER
  21. PSU loses to Michigan in the "biggest turd" competition
  22. i think the prevailing theory is "build the ballpark, and the restaurants will follow". How has that worked out at The Cell?
