  1. They had to bring all these coloreds up from the Negro Leagues because our good boys are off fighting the Japs
  2. at least this is only 2 innings. back in the Chip Caray days, they did a game that started at the dawn of television and then advanced an "era" every inning, going through broadcast styles of the 40's, 50's, 60's, etc. you didn't get to "normal" broadcasting until the 7th or 8th inning
  3. for those of you in Chicago, this is pretty much what WGN looks like in the rest of the country all the time. worst SD signal in America
  4. I would pretty much demand a trade at this point if I were Murton
  5. so you're saying that GoCubsGo! is really Jay Mariotti? /sorry, couldn't resist
  6. he has a turd name, that's for sure
  7. it's 1948 day. i'm dressed to the nines in my wool suit. the Haberdasher says it's really the bee's knees.
  8. he's at the haberdasher, getting gussied up for 1948 day
  9. this never would have happened if he weren't leading off
  10. rotoworld confirms TT's plan
  11. the Cubs went 9-5 while scoring 7.2 runs/game last time Soriano was out. I think sticking Murton/Hauffpauir in LF and moving Kosuke up in the order will be just fine
  12. we don't need a 2B, we need an OF. Moving our really good 2B to LF to accommodate a less good 2B isn't solving much
  13. You've got it backwards. Keep Wood healthy in the pen, move Marmol to the rotation. i think either way, it works. one of them will have to be in the rotation, because they both can't close. at least, so says conventional wisdom. or one gets moved. It's the Wetteland/Rivera or Wagner/Dotel/Lidge situation
  14. Dunn lefty power LF do it
  15. Kosuke needs a friend. go trade for Ichiro or something
  16. says who? Derwood? someone had to
  17. What's your thinking for that? The Phillies can hammer the ball, but they pretty much have one starter. And so do we. Z is a stud, but outside of that Hill has been shaky, Dempster is pitching way above his head, gallagher is doing decent but nobody is expecting him to be a top notch starter his first year and then there's marquis... Fact of the matter is though Dempster could be a an All-Star. He won't keep it up but right now that is what he is pitching like. And like someone else said when he falls Lilly either before or some point after will rise. Demp will likely go from his 2.7 now to pitching 4 in the second half and Lilly is at like 5.3 right now and should be more like 3.7 like least year. That's more of an improvement than Demp's drop. Now those are just my random numbers but I would say it will turn out pretty close to those. we're actually enjoying the best case scenario, with Dempster holding strong and Lilly improving: RYAN DEMPSTER I Split G GS GF W L S CG SHO IP ERA H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP +-+------------+---+--+--+--+--+--+--+---+-----+------+---+---+---+--+---+---+---+---+ April/March 6 6 0 4 0 0 0 0 37 3.16 22 15 13 2 19 0 22 1 May 6 6 0 3 2 0 0 0 38.1 2.35 29 15 10 4 14 0 41 2 June 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 5.1 5.06 5 3 3 1 2 0 1 0 TED LILLY I Split G GS GF W L S CG SHO IP ERA H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP +-+------------+---+--+--+--+--+--+--+---+-----+------+---+---+---+--+---+---+---+---+ April/March 6 6 0 1 4 0 0 0 30.2 6.46 33 22 22 4 13 0 25 1 May 6 6 0 4 0 0 0 0 34.1 4.72 37 21 18 8 8 0 36 1 June 2 2 0 1 1 0 0 0 14 3.21 11 5 5 2 5 0 16 0
  18. says who? how many starting pitchers get by with 2 pitches?
  19. Look at his minor league success. He was very, very, very good as a starter. sure, so was Pie. just saying that he's probably the best reliever in the game right now. no reason to rock that boat
  20. i still don't buy marmol in the rotation. his effectiveness in the pen is his ability to just let it fly for an inning. if he has to pace himself, his stuff isn't nearly as electric, and two pitches won't get him through a batting order 3 times
  21. I don't miss Ward at all and don't really care when he comes back. the team hasn't suffered a moment without him.
  22. sham or not, i can't believe this is his 11th year in the league. Damn I'm old
  23. I concur. We've had one day game in the last 9 or 10 days, and it was a blacked-out FOX game on Saturday (which we lost).
