  1. 10 point lead with 8 minutes to go against Drake? Not good enough. Wasted a 7/8 3pt performance from Lucca Staiger in the first half as well. Iowa will win by double digits this weekend unless ISU finds an offense that shows up for 40 minutes.
  2. So the Miami Dolphins are 8-5 and control their own destiny in the AFC East. I'm still not sure I believe this.
  3. Sounds like a smart pick. If I were him I'd bet everything I have (up to like $100,000) on Dallas. Then either way you win money. And if Pitt wins and doesn't cover you're golden.
  4. Matt Turk rushed right for 18 yard gain. Awesome.
  5. Their secondary isn't completely awful, but when the D-line gives Bradford and his receivers 15 seconds to work with bad things happen. Both of Missouri's lines are completely overmatched.
  6. The best part is the commercial the ACC was running all season telling people to get their tickets before it's too late.
  7. He probably belongs in the greatest of all time discussion. He won 4 straight Cy Young Awards from 1992-1995 and posted an ERA of 1.96 during that span. That's basically an ERA of 2 for 1,000 consecutive innings. He had 19 straight years with a ERA+ over 100, and 17 in a row with 15+ wins. Won every gold glove from 1990-2002, and received 18 overall. He may not have the reputation of a big game pitcher, but he had a 3.27 ERA in the postseason. Just an amazing career.
  8. Florida - 37 Alabama - 20 Oklahoma - 45 Missouri - 34 USC - 35 UCLA - 6
  9. I can't imagine someone holding all the records Rickey Henderson has could miss the first ballot. That said, I'm sure there will be writers who don't vote for him because he played in the steroid era/if Babe Ruth wasn't unanimous no one should be/he talked in the third person. I doubt more than 25% of the writers will use that reasoning though. He played for a quarter of a century, and his prime was not in the steroid era. Not to mention his numbers began to decline when this began to pop up more. I don't think this is even a thought for anyone with a vote. It shouldn't be obviously, but I remember at least one writer sending in (or maybe it was not sending in) a blank ballot last year in protest of the steroid era even though most of the players on the ballot didn't play during it. Basically I'm saying Rickey is a lock unless a quarter of the writers come up with some off field reasoning to not vote for him, because he's 100% deserving on the field. There's virtually no chance of that happening, even though small percentage of writers might try to make a statement of some sort.
  10. Craig Brackins needs to play like he did tonight more often. 32 points and 16 boards in an OT road win vs Northern Iowa. UNI isn't exactly a great team, but I'm just happy to see ISU can win when the 3's aren't falling. Heck, I'm just happy they can win a road game considering Oregon State (in OT) was their only road win last year.
  11. I can't imagine someone holding all the records Rickey Henderson has could miss the first ballot. 12. Chris Colvin announced he coming to ISU today. Starting to get some good, young players here, especially at guard. McDermott's really impressed me with his recruiting so far. Now just get Barnes for the next year and Iowa State will have a pretty good basketball team.
  13. Intentionally fouling UAB in a tie game with about a second left is probably a bad idea Arizona. Really, how do you not know the score there?
  14. Barry Bonds.
  15. whoops, just looked at the stats Zambrano had an OPS+ of 124 Owings had an OPS+ of 97 I guess this was not as bad as I originally thought It also helps that Owings can't pitch very well and got sent down in July.
  16. I'm just hoping they can pull out a win tomorrow so I don't have to talk to a coach whose team is 0-3 despite leading one game by 14 with 11 minutes left and 8 with 3 minutes left, and another game where they blew a 24 point halftime lead. At least if they win tomorrow I'll have something positive to focus on. Oh wow, I saw Davis was up big at halftime before I left for the football game. They should be able to beat LMU if they don't let the last two losses get to them. LMU only lost to ISU by 12 but they closed the gap a bit in garbage time, Davis is a much better team.
  17. What happened with UCD's collapse - was it something we did wrong or did Iowa State start playing a lot better? I left for the DHS football game with UCD down two late in the first half but our photographer told me about what happened when he came to the game. So disappointing. As far as competition in the Big West, they should be in the mix this year and could, if they reach their potential, be right there for a chance at the conference title. Mostly it was Iowa State starting to hit shots. They're not a good shooting team, but no one is bad enough to consistently put up the numbers they did for the first 28 minutes. Davis missing the front end of a 1-and-1 with a one point lead and under a minute to play helped. Good luck against UW-Milwaukee tonight and Loyola Marymount tomorrow. LMU should be easy, but Milwaukee looks tough.
  18. So essentially Hendry took Gregg+$5M or so next year over Wood+Ceda? I wasn't a fan of the Gregg trade to begin with, but if Wood would take a 1 year deal it looks horrible.
  19. If ISU loses the best player ever to come out of Ames to Iowa bad things are going to happen here. Reading between the lines, it sounds like he's not staying in the state, and I don't blame him at all. He should make the decision he thinks will be best for his career. Still holding out a little bit of hope he stays at home though.
  20. Being down 14 in the 2nd half to UC Davis isn't what I was hoping for tonight, but that's what happens when you are 8% from 3 and 25% from the line 3/4 of the way through the game. Nice to pull out the win in the end, but very few players on the offense appear to be capable of creating a shot. Could be a long season in the Big 12 if no improvements are made. Davis has some really good guards though. Harden and Oliver put up a ton against a usually solid ISU defense, and either Harden or Payne had a ridiculous one-handed put back dunk in the 1st half. I wouldn't be shocked to see them competing for the Big West in the near future.
  21. Looks like I was wrong about this part. Staiger will likely make his long awaited debut tonight, and hopefully give ISU a boost from the perimeter. 3pt% is going to be critical this year. Projected Lineup: G - Bryan Petersen G - Diante Garrett G - Sean Haluska F - Craig Brackins F - Alex Thompson Lots of depth this year (until half the team transfers again), so I expect this to change frequently. Brackins might be the only player that has job security right now.
  22. He usually gets better around tournament time, but he's considered an expert because he averages about 64/65 teams in the tournament every year. That looks impressive, but there's usually only a few slots in question on Selection Sunday. If my full time job was to predict the bracket I'm pretty sure I could average that. If I remember correctly our NSBB committee only missed one team this last year, and most of our individual rankings were very close as well.
  23. that was my thought, too, especially since the wrigley renovations would seem to be far more expensive and time-consuming. Really? More expensive than dealing with permanent left field and right field bleachers, and not just one level, mind you. I doubt they'd have to do much of anything to the structure itself. right, it's not like they'd be moving fences back, needing to do something about seats. If they move fences in , say, 10-15 feet (I have no real idea), what really needs to be done other than moving the walls. If you give an MLB owner another 10-15 feet of space where you can put extra seating, they're probably going to take advantage of that. I think they would probably alter the lower bleachers so they could add a few more rows, but the extra ticket sales would probably pay for that over time.
  24. I'm not sure what the record for penalties in a quarter is, but they have to be getting close here.
  25. I don't think there's any question that the Cubs have a better chance to win the World Series next year than the Braves at this point of the offseason. If Peavy's only concern was to win a title he'd veto any trade with Atlanta and come to Chicago, but he included Atlanta on his list of teams to be traded to originally. I doubt he would do that if he planned on vetoing any trade with Atlanta in the first place. I think if the Braves put together a deal that doesn't significantly change their major league roster for next year, Peavy probably won't invoke his no-trade clause.
