  1. Kornheiser out, Gruden in for MNF. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4174469 No idea how good Gruden will be in the booth, but I never really liked Kornheiser on MNF anyway, so it should be an improvement.
  2. This. Marshall to the pen, especially if it's as a LOOGY when he doesn't do that much better against lefties, would make no sense. I'm fine with Wells in the pen, but he's done nothing in his career to earn a starting spot over Marshall.
  3. 176th now with 109 points. I was in the top 30 for a while, but Michael Bourn of all people is giving me negative points now. My pitching duo of Eaton (24) and Silva (25 + tonight's awesome performance) is keeping me from falling back further. I don't think anyone has completely lost their job yet either.
  4. I like this move, though I wasn't a fan of calling Samardzija up in the first place. Fox has been doing well at Iowa so far, and can't be much worse than Samardzija has been. It also allows Samardzija to start again and be ready when someone else in the rotation goes down.
  5. Yeah, it's going from CO Springs to pitcher heaven. I don't really see it happening Coors Field = pitcher heaven?
  6. As much as Id prefer Jake Foxs bat, Im going to have to admit we need someone who can play a competant third base. Scales has put up solid minor league numbers for us, so hopefully he'll make the most out of his cup of coffee. As for Fox, if Joey Gathright continues to be as useful as a copy of Maxim, to Stevie Wonder, Fox will get his shot. Is Scales competent at 3rd? I'm sure he's better than Fox, but his minor league fielding percentage at 3rd is .897. It's a flawed stat and a fairly small sample size (121 games), but when it's that low it sets off some red flags. I'm guessing that Scales or Miles will play 2B and they keep Fontenot at 3B.
  7. I thought he would declare without an agent to test the waters, but I'll take it. If he improves as much this year as he did from last year he could get himself into the lottery.
  8. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090422&content_id=4385010&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc I don't get what the rush is to get Shark up here and DFA Vizcaino. Personally I would rather keep Shark stashed away in AAA until they have an injury in the rotation. Maybe he was being vocal about not wanting to be in AAA and Hendry decided for long term it was better to keep him happy and just cut bait with Vizcaino. Guess this means Wells and Atkins will be the ones in line for the spot starting role. Can't see any way they will keep Samardzija stretched out enough that he could do it. This is what scares me the most. I guess they could get Heilman back to starting if they had to, but the starting pitching depth doesn't look good for a team that has Rich Harden on the roster. I'm assuming the only way to get value out of Viscaino now is to trade him, eat most of his salary (they have to pay him anyway), and get a minor leaguer that someone else has already given up on, correct?
  9. Harry Kalas still does play-by-play for Philadelphia I think. He's the narrator for NFL Films, so he definitely matches your description.
  10. Yes. You want hitters with a low batting average and pitchers with a high ERA, but combined with a lot of at-bats for hitters and innings pitched for pitchers, because they are weighting factors in the scoring system. Yep, except they use OPS instead of batting average (so don't take Jack Cust). Here's the exact formula:
  11. Apparently Khalil Greene is the Cardinals clean up hitter for Opening Day. I figured it had to be some right-left-right thing that managers like to do, but nope. Link: http://yourenotagolfer.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/04/opening_day_lineup.html
  12. I almost forgot about this, thanks for reminding me. Manatee Community College C - Kenji Johjima 1B - Kendry Morales 2B - Emmanuel Burriss 3B - Chone Figgins SS - Cesar Isturis LF - Wladimir Balentien CF - Michael Bourn RF - Ichiro Suzuki P - Carlos Silva P - Adam Eaton
  13. If he's thinking about his next contract or playing time then playing for the Reds is probably the best choice. The Mets give him a better shot at the postseason though. Considering he'll be 41 next year and won't be getting paid much anyway (in comparison to the $150M+ he's already earned) I don't blame him.
  14. Played 2B I believe, but he's a subpar corner outfielder at this point. I doubt the Cubs bring him in over Gathright because they want a designated pinch runner/utility outfielder. He can still hit though, and I wouldn't mind seeing him on the team as a pinch hitter if someone goes down.
  15. 10 teams, roto, auction draft, 5x5 ESPN league. This was my first time in an auction draft and first time in a roto league, so I didn't have much of a strategy going in. C - Matt Wieters 1B - Albert Pujols 2B - Kelly Johnson 3B - Chipper Jones SS - Stephen Drew 2B/SS - Yunel Escobar 1B/3B - Jason Giambi OF - Carlos Beltran OF - Milton Bradley OF - JD Drew OF - Pat Burrell OF - Jack Cust UTIL - Delmon Young BENCH - Alex Rodriguez P - Johan Santana P - Brandon Webb P - Roy Halladay P - Rich Harden P - Kevin Gregg P - Matt Lindstrom P - Joey Devine P - Grant Balfour P - Troy Percival BENCH - Chris Volstad BENCH - Jair Jurrjens Planning on putting ARod on the DL for a catcher to play until Wieters (hopefully) gets called up. Thoughts on my SP/RP ratio? Things I should look to trade for? Other feedback?
  16. Simple +/- isn't a good measuring stick at all. Saying a 9 is the same as a 16 but a full win worse than an 8 is silly. PASE does a pretty good job of correcting for that, but it's not perfect either. I mostly agree that the top 5 conferences are very close. I think there's a little separation in there, but not much. The Big 10 argument is basically the same one that occurred with the ACC in football. Do you want a conference full of good teams, or a few teams that are great along with a few bad ones?
  17. Iowa State's player retention problems seem to be contagious and moving eastward. Lickliter and McDermott are having eerily similar tenures at this point.
  18. ONIONS! x2!!!
  19. I'm almost mathematically eliminated from my pools and the first round isn't even over. Utah is another Sweet 16 team for me that went down. That entire state is killing me this year. Utah is out, BYU is out, Utah St. is out, Pomeroy is from Utah and his rankings are killing me so far (I know, sample size, etc., they usually are pretty good).
  20. Wow Pitt is playing awful. ETSU is shooting about 30% and they're still in it.
  21. Three awesome games right now, go underdogs. It would be nice if someone other than Woodside would step up for NDSU.
  22. It's usually Syracuse for me. I've picked them for the Final Four and had them lose 1st round and vice versa.
  23. It's your overall percentile, so you're doing as well or better than 45.8% of all brackets. I'm right there with you.
  24. Yeah, BYU to the Sweet 16 wasn't one of my better ideas. You can miss a shot any time A&M.
