  1. While talent rules in the NBA, I'd say you need some semblance of a head coach to be competitive. VDN is a complete joke. D'Antoni would have been so great for this club. Derrick Rose #'s would be even better than they are now, this team would be fun as well to watch and it would have helped in attracting FA's. Yes, he eventually would have worn out his time, but would have brought this team a point were they are ready to contend. The fact he isn't coaching this team is a complete and utter joke. Thanks Reinsdorf and Pax..again. Vinny is a joke. Lots of us said this when he was first hired too. I don't understand why Pax did this. It doesn't take much basketball knowledge to see that a guy with no coaching experience is not the right choice. I have little basketball expertise. How come I could see this and Pax couldn't? I'm just asking because that move seemed dumb at the time, and even dumber now. Even if Vinny somehow finds his coaching voice now, it will still have been a bad move because we've now lost time. It was a pure financial move, so I shouldn't be blaming Paxson for this one. The Bulls head coaching search was 100% Reindsdorf and after he decided he didn't want to ruin his relationship with Doug Collins....he went straight for the budget buy. i love all of your insider information. so awesome to have Reinsdorf's confidant on the board here for us WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=3430388&type=story Honest to god, before you jump in with your little critques at least do some research. It was clearly noted during the Bulls coaching search that Collins dropped out for this reason.
  2. I don't know about straight up budget move. But before they had DeRosa, and now they have Miles, 3 relief prospects and $2.5m less dedicated to the 2009 payroll. Hendry likes his relievers. He also likes to blow savings on crappy veterans. Hendry has moved up the ladder in my book to somewhat "competant" GM. I really don't want to believe that he thinks Miles is even 1/10 the player Derosa is, because if he does, then I have lost all faith in him. I had to listen to Steve Stone for an 1/2 yesterday try and convince me Aaron Miles was a good hitter. Why can't people realize this guy is pure Howry

  4. DeRosa was set to make a bit over $5m this year. The team may be in win now, but the owner is bankrupt the economy is a mess, the market is way down and ownership is unsettled. Why is it so hard to imagine finances would be an issue? I'm just having trouble understanding this move as a straight up budget move, expecially when he then signed miles @ around 2 million/season. So that is basically 3 million savings? It isn't adding up to me. I'm guessing the main intent was to get pieces for Peavy, and a sidebar may have been that it helped free up a bit of cash for Bradley.

  6. I'm not buying that one bit. Bradley could have been aquired without moving Derosa. Let's not forget Derosa is a bargin at 4 million per season, I'm sure Bradley's contract could have been structured to accomodate the current budget. And why trade Derosa who isn't expesnive and very productive for prospects, especially when this team is in "win now" mode? It doesn't make sense unless future deals are in the pipeline. My best guess is that Hendry walked away from Towers the first time because there was something he didn't want to give up. Towers basically pointed out his "wish list" for young ML pitching and Derosa was the best chip to use to get these prospects. I wouldn't be suprised if Hendry is trying to put a package together that doesn't include Vitters.
  7. VDN gives up with 20 minutes to go. What a sad, sad exuse for a head coach. Simply pathetic.
  8. oh, well..at least we drafted Rose over Michael "The Bust" Beasley. Thank heavens.
  9. lol, Wrigley23 must have some type of bat signal anytime leadoff is typed in a thread. d
  10. ahh, 2PM, B&B is one now. Seriously, those two save the station.
  11. http://imgsrv.670thescore.com/image/wscr/UserFiles/Image/Time_Feature_On_Air/Email-Murph.jpg YOU GOTTA SEE MY GUY, JACK PHAAALEN! This guy is the worst sports radio host ever. I seriously can not stand to listen to the score when he is on.
  12. Yes, Edmonds did have a great year(Grady Sizemore) like, but how can you assume that effort would have been repeated in 2009?
  13. No GM in their right mind would trade Derosa for Soo straight up.
  14. My guess this deal has been 2-3 years in the making, with the Cubs transforming Kerry Wood into a closer and then not re-signing him and stearing his move to Cleveland, in turn the Cleveland agreed to not sign Derosa when he was a FA from Texas allowing him to sign with Chicago at a bargain rate. Now Cleveland will give the needed pitching prospects for him that in turn will alow us to deal for Peavy. Interesting.
  15. All reports indicate that Mark Cuban's prospects of owning the Cubs are slim to none. Sorry.
  16. Would you rather him sign Orlando Hudson and not have any money left for Bradley or Peavy? Its a decent move if derosa is indeed gone, what else would you have done to replace derosa and get a utility man. Too many wanna be GMs on this board. Give Jim some slack if its a move toward peavy. If its not than i'll eat my words and apologize. Needed to move Derosa to get Peavy and finding another plan, instead of giving a shatty bench player too much coin, are mutually exclusive events.
  17. Well, he is white. So he has that going for him.
  18. Aaron Miles is pure crap. He only had a semi decent season last year, so Jimbo waste away money on a postion who's production could have been matched via the farmsystem.
  19. Way to piss away 5 million, especially for a "cash strapped" team.
  20. Won't happen here, but wonder if Shanrat would consider taking an offensive coordinator position for the 09 season.
  21. I'm not sure love is the appropriate word. But I also think it's a mistake to dismiss a coach's positional coaching ability based on his team's results as a head coach. I already said throw out Wins and Losses....Why was that team so terrible on defense year in and year out? Don't say personal. Not when Bill Belliciek can take 6 UDFA and 5 old guys from a Boston retirement home to form a comptetive D. Marinelli was brought in as a defensive guru and didn't foster one defensive strenght on that team his entire tenure. Huge red flag.
