  1. Damian Miller is hitting 5th today for the Brewers...
  2. The only issue that hasnt been brought into this but I can't let go is who knows if Durham even wanted to come here? He may love SF and wanted to stay there. Maybe Hendry was interested and Durham said "thanks but no thanks." If that is the case, obviously hypothetical, DeRosa might have been his best option.
  3. should have walked him.
  4. pitching to him...interesting.
  5. Here comes the double intentional walk probably.
  6. it might be now, but it certainly wasn't at the time. why in the world would someone think that durham was washed up in winter 06? And you said I was using 20/20 hindsight? For reasons mentioned above, versatilty, age, and salary, It was the better move.
  7. (a) everyone in baseball was on steroids, and corked bats don't help hitters. (b) Sosa was two years younger than DeRosa, and probably had more mileage on his body since he was an everyday player. a. wrong, and i know b. more mileage? come on.... the fact sosa stood in rf for a few more innings and took a thousand or two more swings than derosa over the course of ten years is meaningless I agree to a point with you on A, not everybody was on roids. But, not to come off the wrong way to you, I bet I have a better idea on Sosa then you do as far as the steroid question. I trust the guy, and he was in that clubhouse for almost the entire year.
  8. you do know that sosa's career line before 98 was .246 AVG/.325 OBP, and well you know how that improved. more spinach?
  9. Obviously not, or he would be performing this year. probabilistic outcomes. actual outcomes. 20/20 hindsight Yep. That simple. The more of your posts I read the more I understand why you have a Robert Hanssen quote in your signature.

  11. Clearly no homerism in play for Mark Grace... Yeah, obviously. Although a lot of people like to make him out to be a Cub-hater.
  12. Grace and Kennedy predicting the Cubs will pass the Brewers soon and take the division.
  13. Lincecum is inconsistent. Cain has been pretty bad. Morris is decent, but should be familiar. Zito has been the worst of them all. Cain has a 122+ ERA and a disappointing but not unacceptable 1.35 WHIP. He hasn't been bad anyway you slice it. Ye ol' 3-10 record is pretty much the way 90% of people would say he's been bad. That 4.24 BB/9 isn't all that good, though. This team just needs to be patient...which is why I'm concerned about that particular game. I wasn't basing it off the record, based it more on the BB%. But after looking at his other numbers I realize "pretty bad" was a mistake. I could care less what his record is.
  14. He's giving up quite a few walks. His other numbers were better than I thought they were. I take the "pretty bad" comment back.

  16. Berkman just isn't himself. He use to scare the crap out of me every time he was up.
  17. Truf, please tell me you think Soto can do better than Bowen? How can he not? Earlier in the thread the argument was being made that Soto was no better than Bowen. That's not exactly right. The argument was that Soto probably isn't much better than Bowen. Again, career minor league OPS: Soto .715 Bowen .715 Over a big sample, they're almost identical players. Cripes, did you see my argument from earlier in the thread? Bowen's two years older than Soto and Bowen spent every year from 1999 to 2006 spending at least part of his time in the minor leagues. He's spent significantly more time in the major leagues compared to Soto. They are NOT almost identical players. Bowen has 240 career at bats. That's hardly a substantial MLB track record. Also, I've learned from this board that young players should not be expected to hit well when they play only part time. (See Matt Murton) So I'm not sure why you've decided that Bowen can't hack it in the majors based on his 240 at bats over 4-5 years. Bowen hasnt shown any ability to hit ever at any level. Hes never had a "breakout" season even while in the minors. Soto has had a breakout season this year, and while I dont think he will carry that performance into the Majors, there is reason to believe he may have gotten over that hump, and could give a .270 average with a .330 or so OBP. Hell Id love that out of the catchers spot right now. Soto has actually had a breakout "half" season. I have no complaints about not starting him today against one of the top pitchers in the game. I bet he's back in there tomorrow.
  18. Nothing, doesn't mean he can't come in and pitch. He's a reliever, he can pitch at any time, score shouldn't have that much to do with it. With the ASB and all, not a bad idea to give him an inning of work.
  19. He's actually been very good his last 3-4 starts.
