  1. Who's out there to get that we won't get fleeced over? Griffey? Dunn? Renteria? Probably forgetting a few others. Julio Lugo, Ramon Hernandez, Torii Hunter... Yeah, the Cubs could probably get Hunter for nothing. Lugo? Seriously? That contract?
  2. Keep throwing out the hyperbole if that makes you feel better. That is not what I said. I just don't think are reasonable pgrades available without giving up way too much.
  3. Who's out there to get that we won't get fleeced over? Sosa and Pie or Payton could replace Jones and Pagan and we'd be a much better team, and neither guy costs much. . You do realize Pagan is out slugging Sosa and Payton, right?
  4. You are nuts. The Cubs are getting bottom of the NL barrel production from SS, CF, C and RF, and you think there are no holes? You should check Theriot's July stats and find me an NL shortstop who put up better numbers. Theriot's season OPS is still just .706. That's low. Theriot's advantage is his energy and timeliness (which may read as luck), because he seems to be at the core of nearly all Cubs rallies. But that is an immeasurable anecdote at best. I think using OPS to grade Theriot is a bad idea. Everyone knows he sin't going to have any power numbers, so his OPS is going to be low. His OBP is very good though. He palys good defense and has had tremendous success stealing bases. That is his role on this team and I think he does it well.
  5. You are nuts. The Cubs are getting bottom of the NL barrel production from SS, CF, C and RF, and you think there are no holes? You should check Theriot's July stats and find me an NL shortstop who put up better numbers. Are you kidding me? Check Neifi's April 2005 stats. You can't seriously think his July stats negate the need for improvement at SS. I will just assume you are kidding and not really thinking something like that. I think Theriot does his job on this team quite well. He is very good defensively and is putting up a .350 OBP. Of course you are going to get zero power out of him. But hitting in the #2 hole he is a good fit with OBP and speed.
  6. You are nuts. The Cubs are getting bottom of the NL barrel production from SS, CF, C and RF, and you think there are no holes? Your an idiot  I just wanted to call you a name too. So who are you suggesting they get? What would you give up? Its much harder to make a good match than just point out the places where the Cubs need an upgrade.
  7. Where? Every team is flawed in some way or another. I just odn't think they are any impact players out there that could create a worthwhile offensive upgrade.
  8. I just think this year is different from years past. Pretty much the only position that could use an upgrade is RF. Some believe that Murton and Floyd could handle that together. Then you have DeRosa who is playing some there as well. C is another questionable position, but they just acquired Kendall and I don't see them making another move in that area. There aren't a whole lot of options at C to obtain anyway. The rotation has been good. Marquis and Hill have been shaky at times, Marquis more than Hill. Marshall has been surprisingly consistent. Lilly and Zambrano have been great. The bullpen has finally stabilized. Wood is on the verge of coming back (did I just type that?). I just don't see many holes.
  9. If Hendry doesnt make any mvoes he'll get ripped. If he makes a move or two, some will rip him for either the player he obtains, or what he had to give up. So no matter what happens he'll get some criticism. I don't see a major move on the horizon. I don't think the Reds can afford to trade Griffey and Dunn isn't worth what they are asking for.
  10. I know Andrus is young, but he hasn't done much in his pro career so far. 2005 in GCL: .295/.377/.398 2006 in Low-A: .265/.324/.362 This year in Myrtle Beach:.244/.330/.335 Granted, the Kid isn't even 19 yet, he'll turn 19 at the end of August. Obvioulsy the hopes are high for him, but we'll see if he ever pans out.
  11. Why would the Reds trade him? Because they are going nowhere, the market is thin, and Griffey's value will never be higher. They'd be fools to hang on to him. Exactly. If they are just hanging on to him for 600, then are going to trade him in the offseason or at next year's deadline, they aren't taking advantage of a big opportunity to improve their team. Normally I'd agree, but this thing has a whole lot of other consequences to consider. He's a local guy, his family has tradition with the Reds and he is their only drawing card right now. I don't think trading him to the Cubs if their first choice, even if they decide to trade him. I think it is 100X more likely they ship him out of the league and the division if they can. I say can because Griffey obvioulsy has to approve the trade. The Reds also aren't exactly known for making the smartest and best decisions. I just don't see it happening, but I'd be glad if it did.
  12. I'd love to see Griffey to the Cubs, but someone has to give me a legitimate reason as to why the Reds would trade him. He's about the only reason the Reds draw any fans, they want to see him reach 600 HR. I think the backlash would be terrible in Cincy. They might be able to live with it if they sent him back to the AL, even Seatlle, but to the Cubs? In the same division? I just don't see it as a realistic possibillity.
  13. I like Adam Dunn as a person, been lucky enough to spend some time around him. At the same time I don't think he is worth what the Reds would command, especially trading him to the Cubs. He has some serious flaws. I know the OBP and Power are great, and yes he'd be an upgrade to Floyd. I'm not arguing any of those facts. But from everything that has been put out there about his asking price in the eyes of Krivsky. I just don't think he's worth what it would take. Also, the Reds have nothing to play for. 85% of the people that come out to that park on a daily basis are there to see Griffey's quest for 600. I don't think he's going anywhere.
  14. I doubt anyone complained about Nomar. It was a joke. I just crack up when some people treat Cub prospects like gold sometimes. You have to give to get. If I can get something productive for a prospect I wouldn't hesitate. The Cubs don'thave a great history of their prospects panning out.
  15. im going to bed now, but it's not because you told me to it's because im going to j/o to your sig/av  haha
  16. Oh well. I was just waiting for a trade to be announced so NSBB could have its usual reaction and bitch about it.
  17. Well, hope everbody had fun. I'm going back to figuring out the Kennedy assasination right now. I'll let you all know what I find out.
  18. Hey, I'll be right there too.....I"m the chubby guy in the Cubs shirt and hat. Forecast looks awful for tomorrow...
  19. Ahhhh... Someone was saying something about warning track flyballs earlier?
  20. Well, at least they got the DP before Rolen murdered that ball.
  21. The double play has been the Cubs best friend this series.
  22. Gameday must be screwed up, strikezone has looked fine to me.
  23. And Fontenot pops out. 0-0 heading into the Bottom of the 4th.
