Being "perfectly fine" with the roster doesn't mean that Hendry doesn't recognize that there are weaknesses. It could simply be that he thinks what's available at the moment costs too much to be worthwhile. You must be a Kool-aid drinker too  You made the point I was trying to make in a better way.

well so much for pushing us over the top, I guess Hendry would rather settle for being right around .500 and hopeing to make the playoffs instead of making a move to push us over the top. Team isn't exactly hovering around .500 anymore... check the standings you are wrong. They are yet to reach 10 over, all it takes is a 3-4 game losing streak and they are right back down there. Add a 4 or 5 game winning streak and they have the best record in the NL. Gotta look at it both ways... Having the best record in the NL, is kind of like having the best tasting poop. Id rather push us to being a top team in the Majors, but if just hopeing to make the playoffs is ok with you then thats fine. I have a little higher standards, and its right there for the taking, but instead Hendry would rather sit back and "hope". What regular-season record won the World Series last year? And it still takes two teams to make a deal. The asking prices have been ridiculous, and the Cubs don't have to give up some of those players to get a little better here or there. Come on Bruce, you know its more fun to just rip people without actual knowledge and reason. On a side not, were you staying at the Marriott in Covington for the Cincy series? I thought I saw you. I was staying there as well. Sorry I look at things without my blue kool aid glasses like you do all the time. You defend everything Hendry, Lou or whoever else in this organization, and thats fine if you like mediocrity. I do? Thats news to me. It wasn't a defense of Hendry at all. Just pointing out that none of us know what he's got in mind at this point. Until the deadline passes its hard to judge don't you think?

You have absolutely NO idea what Hendry has looked into and what trade opportunities he has explored. We are still 20+ hours away from the deadline. Who knows what he may be looking at. This isn't a defense of Hendry, but to emphatically state he's "hoping" without having any idea what he may be up to is silly. Im going off Bruces statement that he sees no deals being made, reading is comprehension. Thanks smartguy. Point still stands though. Nobody knows what the options are right now but Hendry, to assume otherwise is ridiculous.

never take for granted the ability make a last minute decision and watch them at wrigley though. I see them 2-3 games a year(normally atlanta) and haven't visited wrigley since i was 7. yeah. just upset at myself. I knew I shouldn't take the time to look up the seats. I was just worried there might be a pole in my view. seatdata took forever to load for some reason. Out of curiosity, what section were they in?

Loading up with righties against Hamels. Lefties and righties hit him about the same though. Might see a lot of running tonight with Soriano, Theriot, and Pagan. Base stealers are successful 85% of the time against him. That may have more to do with the catcher though. Although that is a very high % for a left-handed pitcher.

Keith Law: Cubs only good because of weak schedule
Bruno7481 replied to Bruno7481's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
I just found it to be an uninformed comment. Sure, the schedule has helped, but Milwaukee has the same schedule. -
He was just on ESPNews. Was asked what he was most impressed with during the Cubs past two months. He said nothing much other than they have played weak teams. Wonderful insight midget man.

Discussion does not equal belief. :D I'll rephrase, people still waste time discussing these things? This deal is very lopsided and from a message board. Apparently the poster that posted this is the only one who heard this report I'm assuming. hehe, but what does that say about taking the time to debunk something you feel is so ridiculous ;) I'm a teacher, I've got nothing better to do for another couple weeks.

That's a stellar idea. Soriano Church Lee Ramirez Hermida DeRosa Theriot/Cedeno Kendall(ideally Soto) I'd swap Church and Hermida, but yeah. I love the idea of acquiring Hermida; is there any chance he's actually available? For Pie? Absolutely. However, I'd be reluctant to swap those two. If Hendry gives up Pie, I'd prefer it be for established producers. Can Hermida be described as an established producer yet?

Ahhh... another "inside source" rumor. People still believe these things?

I don't. I'd trade Jones for Payton. But Pagan has been pretty solid against LHP. Don't let a hot streak fool you. He's a 5th OF. Yeah, but if he's only playing against LHP, that's fine with me. Hot. Streak. Consitent. Months. Look them up, he's been pretty consistent since his callup in May. Except for his SLG%, which is what we need to upgrade. That's gone way down since May. He's done enought to not be replaced by Jay Payton. I also didn't realize how good his numbers are at home. .306/.389/.581.

And power isn't just HR's. It's XBH's. Theriot needs to hit more XBH's of any kind. You CAN live with Theriot at SS if you upgrade the OF, or C. Agreed. But again, who's out there that will significantly upgrade either of those positions? Sosa in RF against LHP. Church in CF Payton/Pie platoon in CF Ramon Hernandez C There's also the argument to be made that you could find upgrades at nearly all of these spots in house; that a Murton/Floyd platoon in RF, a Pagan/Jones platoon in CF or a Pie CF, and a Soto/Hill combo at C would be better than what we have now. But the team has demostrated that Murton and Soto aren't going to get that opportunity. No, no, no. This Jay Payton is worthwhile talk needs to stop. It's better than what we have in CF. He's 34 years old and currently has an under .700 OPS. Why would you want him and jones on the same team?

I wouldn't mind Church, but apparently Bowden asking price is way too high. Payton is slugging .417 against lefties this year, Pagan is slugging .532 against lefties. There is no need for Payton. He's older, more expensive, slower, and more brittle. The Cubs have committed money to Kendall and won't be dumping him. Blanco has another year on his contract. Adding Hernandex would be an upgrade but because of Kendall and Blanco I don't think its reasonable to expect that to happen.

Keep throwing out the hyperbole if that makes you feel better. That is not what I said. I just don't think are reasonable pgrades available without giving up way too much. No, this is what you wrote. I think that's a ludicrous notion. Call me crazy, but this team has holes. If they didn't, they'd be running away with the division right now and not just some middle of the road NL offense. Every team has holes in some form or another. Let me clarify, I don't see many holes that can be significantly upgraded with what we know to be available outside players. I've given my thoughts on Dunn and Griffey. Maybe there is somebody else out there that hasn't been talked about.

Of course a guy is going to look better when you only judge him by the good parts of his game. But overall productivity matters, and the Cubs are still far too below the elites in the NL for my taste, and it's because of far too many positions with compromised production. I have no problem with Theriot playing SS. I do have a problem with a lineup that features 4 pretty big holes at SS, CF, C and RF. You can probably make the playoffs with any one of those black holes remaining so, but there's no reason to chance trying to make it with all 4. I'm not sure why we're just assuming any trade the Cubs try would be a fleecing. My only point is using "power" stats to evaluate Theriot is never going to have a positive outcome. It clearly is not his game. At the same time though, he is doing an adequate job and is very cheap. The production he gives makes him valuable.
