    Where's Fred? Of course I could be way off. I just know that I have attended two games so far this year where he hasn't played and the Cubs have won big both times. Once against SF in Wrigley and the other last Saturday night in Cincinnati.

    I don't have the numbers in front of me, but it seems to me that the Cubs usually play pretty well when Ramirez has a day off.

    Except that he's not playing as a role-player. He's platooning with Jones in CF and getting a bunch of time in RF, which is a role he isn't suited for. 25th man? Fine. Platoon partner? Not fine. Well, I'd argue that he's better suited in CF against a LH than Jones. I see your point, but I don't think he's playing THAT much.

    I've at least been very pleased with Jacque's play in CF. He's made some very nice plays, especially in the last week.

    I like it. Although I think it has more to do with the Yankees color scheme than anything. It was going to be hard for SF to come up with anything good using Black and Orange.

    I don't quite get the beef some have with Pagan. He's a bench player, role player, 5th outfelder, however you want to put it. Teams don't typically have all-stars manning those positions. He's been fine in that role. Just wanted to throw that out there. It's not so much in repsonse to this thread specifically, but just a reaction to some of the comments about Pagan I have seen in various threads.

    Maybe they traded for him because he was a cool guy? I don't know... He was a lot of fun when the Giants were intown bantering with the bleachers. :)

    That sounds kinda dumb. Washington was not in the playoff picture so why could they not get a deal done now. I have no faith that if Hendry could not get a deal done now he wont in the next few weeks as well. Maybe Washington was being ridiculous with their requests? That is the most likely scenario.

    That's right. I forgot. You're only allowed to work on one trade at a time. So if they are talking to the Rangers about Gagne, they can't talk about a trade with anybody else. There's no need to waste chips on Gagne. It's not about wasting valuable trade talking time, it's about wasting resources on acquiring him. I think what is lost on many people is the possibility that an acquisition like Gagne or Silva opens up chips that small market teams want but the Cubs aren't currently willing to trade. you pick up Gagne and Silva, and all of a sudden you can make Hill and Marmol available in a package with Murton for that big bat we are all hoping for. It would have to be one hell of a big bat to part with Hill or Marmol. Marmol has shown flashes of being a potential all-star closer, and Hill is a very solid #2 starter. Ehhh... I still think Rich is decent #3.

    I think it has more to do wth teams being able to have their trades completed before the games begin that day. So players aren't sitting in limbo during the game, not being able to be used, etc.

    You don't think he'd help? I'd agree its not the biggest need, but would really shoten some games for the opposition if it moved Marmol, Howry and Dempster each down a spot. If you can't fill your biggest need do you ignore other options that could still possibly help?

    Sosa is a polarizing figure, he has his ardent supporters and detractors. There is no denying that his last days as a Cub were a disaster. I think Sosa shoulders that blame along with the organization. He was a great player during his time in Chicago, there is no denying that. It was all downhill after the corked bat, and his weak excuse for it. I think Sosa and the Cubs will one day re-unite, but I don't think he will ever play for them again.

    Probably the career .292/.375/.506 minor league numbers. He's been jacked around by the Nats, so I don't know that his major league numbers are indicative of his talent level. So he's got the Matt Murton excuse as well? Did you really post two separate snarky posts to my one post? Wanted to get your shot at Murton in, but then forgot to make your sarcastic comment too. Well done! Lighten up man, its just a joke. I like Muton just fine.

Or maybe its harder in the Major Leagues? You think so? The talent level is higher and so its more difficult to perform at the major league level? You know, I hadn't considered that, but I think you're probably on to something. Let me do a little more research and get back to you, Captain Obvious. Well, don't put it on a tee for me. He was good in the minors, but its not guarantee for success. I think Church is a decent player, but nothing more than that.
