  1. Dye turns into Hank Aaron against the Cubs at Wrigley.
  2. that's some epic, hard-hitting journalism right there. Yeah, that's pretty much scraping the underside of the barrel there to find something to be upset about. I'm not upset, he's right. I just don't see the point in even saying something like that. Thats why I said it was Mike Davis-esque.
  3. Bruce Weber has a "Mike Davis-esque" case of foot in mouth disease. What a dork: http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/bozich/blog.html
  4. Yep...this is from a Reds blog.
  5. Riccardi said the following on a radio show about Adam Dunn when a caller asked about acquiring him.
  6. I've liked what I've seen from Burke. He has good ABs, draws walks, plays a good OF, is sneaky fast, and has some pop. The only downside I've seen from him is a low batting average. It's a bit head-scratching that he has that problem, given his skillset. Nick Swisher, the Oakland version? Hopefully Vitters keeps hitting and can get back to Peoria at some point this year, as he'll only be 19 when the season ends. Heh,if he makes it to Peoria before the season ends, Vitters would only get 6 games at age 19 this season. Shows how young he really is. That is not impressive to me considering where Nick Noonan, Chris Marrero, Tim Alderson, etc. got. Heck Sean Gallagher moved faster than Vitters! I'm just curious here: how many high school position players taken top 5 have turned out to be good major leaguers after they're still BSing around in shortseason a calendar year after being drafted? A fast start in this case doesn't guarantee anything but a slow start seems to be a good sign of doom if you look at past track records. And let me put it this way: how many guys in the first round from 2007 are still in short season? If there are any, do you feel good about those guys? Bs'ing around? Give me a break. Nobody here knows how Vitters will turn out. There are high hopes for him because he was a top 5 pick. The Cubs were not the only team who considered this kid to be a high draft pick. It is comical for you to characterize him as "Bs'ing around" considering he barely played last year, was sick, and injured himself early on this year. Its not like he is just laying around and taking it easy. The kid got an extremely late start last year after a long layoff. Its not surprising he struggled. This year he had a setback and had to go back to rehab. There is nothing wrong with an 18 year old kid who has played only a handful of professional games playing in that league. Like I said, nobody knows how he will turn out, well, except you of course.
  7. I don't think Peterson will be out of a job very long.
  8. That was me. It was mentioned during the Yankees YES broadcast. Hughes is probably just on a regular West Coast trip.
  9. I don't remember anyone saying they aren't enjoying the Cubs winning. If you don't like reading what someone is posting, then don't read it. Thanks for the advice, but it was just my observation. I am shocked about how much attention is being placed on the standings and division lead and were still 4 weeks from the ASB.
  10. I posted this in the game thread forum but it applies here as well. It really doesn't matter if yo consider them to be "lucky" or not, they are winning. Reading the constant whines and gripes about the luckiness of the Cardinals and theyre so called magic dust is really getting old. Teams overacheive and underachieve all the time, not everything works out to fit the "projections." I have been impressed with how they have played. They have had plenty of injuries and fair share of bad luck as well. The Cubs are in the midst of playing some of their best baseball in years. Enjoy that, who cares what everyone else is doing right now. It would be one thing if the Cubs were struggling along and trailing St. Louis, but theyre not. The Cubs control their fate form here on out and with how they have played the first two months it shouldn't matter at this point how big the division lead is. The "luck" argument reminds me of grade school.

  12. The cardinals are playing very well, thankfully so are the Cubs. Keep it in perspective though, we aren't even at the halfway point in the 2008 season. Tons of baseball left and a little early to get overly excited about the standings or to scoreboard watch. The Cubs will be fine.
  13. I went to the Reds-Red Sox game last night and realized how bad Pedroia has been this year. 260/310/363. Yuck.
  14. Totally unrelated For someone who just called out Howry, you should see the relation No there is no relation at all. Its a differet point in the game. I wasnt clamoring for Howry last inning. But if you think just because Howry gave up a triple there, then he would have if he was brought in in the 8th, then I dont know what to tell you. Quit taking it so literal. Nobody saying he would have given up a triple. They are saying he was a lot more likely to give up a hit compared to Marmol.
  15. Totally unrelated I see your point, but its pretty much a given Howry is more hittable than Marmol.
  16. Why not let Marquis or Lieber face the 9th hitter? You have a 6 run lead with 6 outs to go, no reason to throw your best reliever. Maybe Marquis was out of gas? You can argue with the decision, but the chances of shutting that situation down increased greatly by bringing in Marmol. Lieber is very hittable, let him start the 9th. Bring Marmol in when you need a strikeout.
  17. I think it was a great time to bring him in. Toronto had just got 3 straight hits and were a hit or two away from making this a close game. Bring him in and shut it down hopefully.
  18. Marmol has only thrown 2 innings and 15 pitches in the last 6 days.
  19. Just a temp ban, weak Yeah...I love the see you in a week...considering that's the first post I've made with that account in over a year. Was it a refrence to the Cubs/Sox series next week?
  20. There is always that one guy that gets it for no real reason. Helluva play.
  21. ..says the guy with Cedeno in his signature. Cedeno's career .253/.289/.355 Fontenot's career .265/.340/.395 I see what your saying though. Cedeno hasn't been such hot stuff either, but his at bats have been a bit more promising. I'm going to be brutally and horribly honest, if some of those warning shot blasts by Fontenot made it over the wall I'd have a complete 180 on him, but they didn't so I'm not. I think Fontenot can be adequate 25th man. The Cubs have certainly had worse recently. He does have a decent amount of power for a guy his size.
  22. ..says the guy with Cedeno in his signature. Cedeno's career .253/.289/.355 Fontenot's career .265/.340/.395 I see what your saying though. LMFAO what a joke of a comparison That was the point. So go LMFAO

  24. I like him just fine. The Edmonds hate is getting old. He's done a pretty good job for the Cubs, regardless of who he used to play for.
