  1. I guess I always just expected more out of him from all the hype. I thnk he was good, but I don't think I'd call hom special. Hell, former Illini fan favorite and campus drunk Tom Coverale put up pretty comparable numbers within the same time period. I wouldn't call him special either.
  2. hey bruno, does deron know who ej is yet? haha, i'm kind of kidding. Huh? i just remember a response you gave me last year when i was talking about deron williams's reaction to being asked about ej gordon. he said, "i don't know who that is", and you told me "he will very soon." ej is going to be a very good player in the league, though. Ahhh, gotcha. I wasn't being a jerk, didin't remember it until you mentioned that. I think Deron Williams is great, always have. The only player that I didin't think was worth all the accolades was Frank Williams. That has gotten me in trouble with many Illini fans.

  4. Christ, can the IU-UI pissing match end? I'm actually looking forward to watching a season with no expectations. In time I think Crean will build the program back up.
  5. Yeah, because that's exactly what I asked of him, right? He clearly needed extensive medical training to be honest about why Harden was being skipped. The truth is this though, Lou doesn't have to be honest with anyone. He doesn't "owe" it to the fans, media, etc. As long as Zambrano and Harden are honest with him and vice-versa, there isn't a problem.
  6. The hope is that he'll pitch well enough in relief in September that he'll be in the postseason bullpen instead of Howry. maybe he will, but that is alot to hope for from a guy who's been out of action for a year and a history of arm troubles.
  7. I'll be the party pooper, but oh well. What has Guzman done to be worthy of a postseason roster spot? I'm as happy as the next guy that he is recovering well, but he has always been alittle more hype/potential than substance, at least at the ML level.
  8. There was a really good documentary PBS had on the other night documenting how Lefebvre has built China's baseball program. They followed them for the past 3 years. Its worth checking out if it comes on again.
  9. Maybe Jeremy Hermida will make an out sometime this series...
  10. Another frustrated right hander.... They aren't all balks. I got away with some things in college, but they weren't all balks. You'd be surprised how many guys, even at the college level, react to your head movement. I love being LH and having the ability to disrupt a runner's timing at first.
  11. Who is saying he's the most feared hitter of all time? Adding Dunn is a pretty big improvement for Arizona, as big an individual improvement as any team could reasonably expect to get midseason. Just look at his br.com comparables, the most similar hitter is Pat Burrell, the most similar by age is Darryl Strawberry. He's easily the most productive hitter on their team now, and would quite possibly be the most productive hitter in any Cubs/DBacks series. He's not somebody who is going to turn Arizona into a 95 win team, but he's definitely somebody you worry about in any 5 or 7 game series. It just seems to me that there is a flood of posts suggesting that they would rather face LA in a possible playoff matchup. Well, that was the case before this trade. Arizona should be feared because of their very good 1-2 combo of Webb/Haren. I'd be more worried about their pitching than their offense. Dunn is hot and cold. He could also very likely do nothing in a 5-7 game series. He's a good power hitter. I honestly think either team would be a difficult matchup. I think Chad Billingsley is very underrated and Lowe has a history of handling the Cubs as well. Just have to wait and see and hope the Cubs get an opportunity to solve that problem.
  12. When did Adam Dunn morph into the most feared hitter of all time? He can be pitched to, although it is clear the Cubs have yet to figure that out. I doubt he makes as big an impact as some are claiming. He's a nice piece to have, a slugger with some pretty big holes in his swing.
  13. Obviously from a pitching perspective the Cubs would be better off facing LA. But I'd be more worried about Manny than Dunn offensively.
  14. I don't know what is more annoying, the idiotic things said on ESPN or the constant complaining about it.
  15. Hopefully Eyre lands on his feet somewhere. I feel for him too, but he'll be fine.
  16. Its bound to happen though. 5 games is a nice cushion to have right now. Who knows what the Brewers are going to do, but it really doesn't matter. The Cubs are 7-2 since the last game against FLA, winning 2 series in a row. If they can take these next 2 against Houston they will have won 3 straight series. That is the goal now with a 5 game lead. Milwaukee or STL won't come close if the Cubs can win the majority of the remaining series.
  17. If you assume the Wild Card will come out of the Central, and assume the Cubs win the division, they would most likely face the West winner. If the Cubs keep up with the best NL record they couldn't play the Wild Card because it would be in their own division, so they would play the team with the next loweest record, probably AZ or LA.
  18. I'll start counting down once it hits 20. I think it's a bad idea doing it this early. It's the equivilent of counting down outs starting in the 4th or 5th inning of Game 6. . Its a number, thats it. Whether people on a random internet message board choose to pay attention to it has no effect on the outcome of a major league baseball game or season.
  19. Reed Johnson is worth every penny.
  20. Zambrano with a bit of a letdown after his gem in Milwaukee.
  21. Pittsburgh has had interest in Ethier, I bet he's included in this in some way.
  22. NESN says Manny has been traded... Possibly 3-way through the Dodgers, with bay going to Boston.
  23. The only corner Hill is turning leads to nowhere.
