  1. If I were them, and could get a good deal for Rich Harden, I would be. As Vance said, Beane goes all in or all out. If that 5-6 becomes 8 prior to 7/31, he'll sell if we offer a good deal. Yeah, if you were Beane, but Beane is Beane, and Beane never sells. Perhaps he's looking at the pythag and thinking his team should be in first. Odds are it's going to take a huge offer to entice him to make a move. You never know with Beane. He could be looking at the pythag, but that really only tells part of the story. Its a useful tool, but not an absolute indicator. I'd expect a package built around Gallagher. Incidentally, I'd prefer to keep Gallagher over Hill at this point.
  2. I thought he was going to be in perfect position to start the ASG. This pretty much puts both Lincecum and Demp out of the ASG.
  3. O RLY? on the cubs' side: soto is way better than kendall derosa at this point is a little better than weeks ramirez is easily better than hall on the brewers' side: hardy is better than theriot fielder is marginally better than lee cameron is better than edmonds/johnson braun is way better than whoever's playing left in soriano's absence hart is probably slightly better than fukudome, but it's close the same mets that trail the brewers by either 5 or 6 games, pending the outcome of their game today? BP has the NL east at roughly a 10% chance of winning the wild card, so your confidence in this respect is unwarranted. Soto>Kendall Lee>Fielder DeRosa>Weeks Theriot Ramirez>Hall Hart Edmonds/Johnson>Cameron, when Edmonds and Johnson are properly platooned vs RHPs/LHPs Soriano Yeah, because that is how you decide which team is better....
  4. I think this is great for the NL Central. It really improves the Brewers, and sure, that is a threat to the Cubs but it does make things more exciting. Not sure what Hendry will do, but I think it is obvious the Cubs are in need of another quality SP. Should be an interesting couple of weeks.
  5. Harang will start the first game for the Reds on Tuesday night.
  6. This would be a good inning to get the lead back considering where St. Louis is in their order.
  7. That was a very well played game, and fun to watch. Winning the first game is always nice.
  8. take a breath, dude, we're an out away from winning game one against our chief rivals and the team directly below us in the standings on the road. this is a HUGE win He's a little melodramatic at times... Not really...I just think there is much more to lose in losing this game at this point than there is to gain by winning...I obviously hope we win Getting the first win is a pretty big deal when you just have to win one more in the weekend to take the series.
  9. All MLB teams are wearing Stars and Stripes hats this weekend.

  11. "We can accept losing to a good Cubs team, but not accept an umpire deciding the game" -- Al Hrabosky
  12. What tendency are you talking about..... the one where Zambrano's given up a total of 4 runs in the combined first innings of his 16 starts ?? No, his tendency to be overhyped. You know he is really going to pumped up tonight making his first start coming off of the DL.
  13. I think if Zambrano gets through the first inning he'll be ok. He doesn't need to come out too hyped and be all over the place like has a tendency to do.
  14. 1. R Johnson, LF 2. K Fukudome, RF 3. D Lee, 1B 4. A Ramirez, 3B 5. J Edmonds, CF 6. G Soto, C 7. M DeRosa, 2B 8. R Theriot, SS 9. C Zambrano, P 1. S Schumaker, RF 2. A Miles, SS 3. A Pujols, 1B 4. R Ankiel, CF 5. T Glaus, 3B 6. C Duncan, LF 7. Y Molina, C 8. B Looper, P 9. A Kennedy, 2B
  15. I just think he never recovered from me spraying balls all over the park against him in high school..
  16. Riggins is the best. He'd be my #1 choice if Rothschild should ever leave.
  17. Lots of buzz on the Reds pregame that a trade could be announced soon. Could be something big like Dunn, or could be somebody like Javier Valentin...who knows.
  18. I'm actually pretty confident that lineup can put up some runs on Zito. We'll see, Zito shut the Cubs down twice last seaon. 7/17: 7IP 5 H 0 BB 8 K 1 ER 8/22 8 IP 5 H 0 BB 4 K 2 ER Its amazing he didn't walk a single batter in those two outings last year. It is not a given that the Cubs drill him tonight.
  19. Looked like Aramis just got a little over-anxious in that situation, swinging at two pitches a few inches inside. I think Grace was right, I believe they were attempting to pitch around him. Hard to complain too much about it though the way he has been playing. Get the guys healthy and everything should be fine. Losing to the White Sox is no different than anybody else, this series just gets more hype. It is imperative to pick up a few more wins on the road though because I don't think its possible for the Cubs to keep up their pace at home.
