  1. Was diagnosed with the same thing in college. I had surgery that fused/ tightened my shoulder joint. I just kept having pain and couldn't figure out why. There was no tendinitis, no structural damage. So I went with the surgery. Sounds similar to what Prior is going through.
  2. I think a helathy Izturis will be fine for this team, provided some offensive upgrades are made elsewhere. Its hard to speculate what the team will look like, but I'd be more than happy with him at SS hitting 8th. I think if that was his role he could have a successful year. If they upgrade elsewhere, is the upgrade assumed at 2B? If so, the question becomes Izturis vs. Cedeno? Given contract situations and long-term benefits, I'd go with Cedeno even though Izturis is likely the better short-term fix. Of course, Piniella will look short-term especially in his 1st year. I would think Lou would play Izturis over Cedeno, either at SS or 2b. Your right, I get the feeling from the top down the Cubs organization is thinking short-term.

  4. Very impressed with the press conference. I think a lot of the anti-Lou discussion was propelled by some unfounded fears. We'll see how he does starting next spring. Obviously the big key will be acquiring better players. If the reports of the payroll are true, they should be active. Lets hope it is spent wisely.
  5. Sounds pretty right on to me. I don't get all the complaining already.
  6. Whatever... He also said: He went on to say that it is important. Hitters need to hit in hitters counts. Being selective at the plate helps that.
  7. Way to go Psycho!
  8. Not a bad weekend for Indiana University!
  9. Teams trading for Dunn will be trading for one year of him before they will need to extend him or let him walk. The Reds will realize that they either need to make Dunn part of the franchise or trade him now. Dunn's value likely will be less than other players like Andruw Jones. I'd love to get Dunn. I wonder if an offer of Dempster, Jones, and Marmol would get it done? I doubt it. The Reds have "been there/done that" with Dempster. I think the Reds would want pitching most likely, and probably somebody better than Marmol or Marmol + another guy. I would imagine they would also ask for a Murton over Jones.
  10. Not sure if that is anything new. Looks like just a rehash of the Suntimes article.
  11. Just curious how that would guarantee a last place finish? I realize Lou might not be #1 choice for many around here, but I think because of that all of the "Lou-fear" is really getting overblown. If the CUbs go and get some players to improve this team, I think Lou would do fine. It all depends though on the player personnel that Hendry acquires.
  12. I think most of baseball knows the situation the Reds are in, and the past couple of trades they have made. I dont think a lot of teams are you going to want to give up a ton of talkent for Dunn. Other teams know its not working with Dunn in Cincy. If the Reds want to move him that badly they won't be able to hold him for that big of a ransom.
  13. Well, they aren't the GM. And I don't think the Tigers or Angels would do those deals.
  14. Mota was a hell of an Post-deadline August pickup for Minaya. In 18 games with the Mets: 18 IP 10 H 2 ER 5 BB 19 K 1.00 ERA Of course he starts to lose all concept of the strikezone as soon as I write this post.
  15. Have you seen his numbers the past two years? 2005 .210/.324/.357 2006 .190/.285/.344 Yikes... He said invite to camp not sign to a 5 year 70 mil. Go Team "Belhorn to the Cubs"!!! I know. Just pointing out he's been pretty bad. Consistently bad, which is worse.
  16. Nothing wrong with that. Keeps the hitter's guessing. Yes and no. Having that many pitches can cause some issues in execution. I wouldn't think there would be too many nights where he would have control of each and every one of those. Maybe he would be more effective if he cut some of those out and focused on 3-4 of them, perfecting them as much as possible. As far as keeping hitter guessing, it is really a matter of fastball vs. offspeed. You recognize offspeed that it can be anything from a changeup, curveball, slider, etc. I don't think you can guess curveball, slider, etc. You can key off of offspeed vs fastball though, including cutters.
  17. If Weaver keeps this up, you know he will get a decent contract just based off of his playoff success.
  18. How cool must David Wright's life be? I'd trade all of Boise and Peoria for him.
  19. Why? Geoff Blum is a valuable Left-handed hitter off the bench. He can pretty much play anywhere on the field. He has some power in his bat, and he puts the bat on the ball. I love his versatility. Those things also describe Jose Macias. Blum has been terrible offensively for quite some time. But he's a Cub Killer!!! .348/.375/.609
  20. Have you seen his numbers the past two years? 2005 .210/.324/.357 2006 .190/.285/.344 Yikes...
  21. They should have just said the following: "We are releasing all of our Ex-Cubs. We want to have as few as possible on our roster next season. We feel it will give us a better chance to win in the future."
  22. Huge bomb by Granderson... That might just do it.
