  1. I hope you're right but aside from that first month he really looked bad. I hope he can adjust to American pitching and be a serviceable player.
  2. No. Wikipedia is a pretty trustworthy source. It is much better than it was a few years ago. In defense of all things Wikipedia http://news.cnet.com/Study-Wikipedia-as-accurate-as-Britannica/2100-1038_3-5997332.html
  3. Indeed, he averages 228 hits a season. Some others with over 200 per season: Cobb: 224 Sisler: 222 Joe Jackson: 216 Simmons: 214 Lajoie: 212 Hornsby: 210 Gwynn: 209 Puckett: 209 Combs: 208 DiMaggio: 207 Jeter: 207 Terry: 206 Gehrig: 204 Frisch: 202 Traynor: 202 Medwick: 202 Nomar: 201 Boggs: 200 Pujols: 200 "First ballot hall of famer" never crossed my mind when it came to Ichiro (probably because I haven't watched the Mariners play in a long time) but he probably should be.
  4. In those pictures it really doesn't look like he changed much. I remember when he played during the steroid era he had some big arm but that first picture with the Rangers his arms look pretty big too.
  5. A little off topic but somewhat relevant. What ever happened to the "juiced" baseball theory? Do people still think that lead to an increased amount of home runs or did that pretty much did when steroids became an issue?
  6. And Wilson, you're probably right on the elbow pad thing, I just hate it more because I'm pretty desensitized to the steroid thing.
  7. Me too. While he did do that, why is that more important than a roided Bonds who broke the most cherished record in modern day sports? Is a walk greater than a home run? Bonds took away one half of the plate. Knowing where the pitch was going to be made it much easier to hit. Add his knowledge of the strike zone and his armor might have attributed to just as many home runs as steroids did. No way. You can still throw the ball inside when a player crowds the plate. It is actually easier to jam a hitter when he does that. Bonds was no closer to the plate during the early 90's compared to the late 90's and early 2000's. He hit way more home run during the latter. His body armor might have increased in size, but crowding the plate did not give him 72 or break Aaron's record. His massive arms did. Arms have very little to do with hitting home runs compared with legs/core. It's not like these guys are just in the gym doing curls. Honestly there is no way to know what attributed to the home runs (yes it was most likely roids but when most of the league did them I don't see how it gave him more of an advantage). Bonds hit plenty before the years he was accused of using. Yes the 72 was an anomaly but so was Maris' 62

  9. I wish that had happened before the Iowa game.
  10. It was Signed, Kerry Wood's arm
  11. If Ichiro hits 3000 MLB hits that would be pretty remarkable considering how old he was when he started here.
  12. I've been thinking about this and maybe legal muscle enhancers can=new bat technology, for example some people think maple bats are a better bat (at least that's what I understand, it's not really the point though). The new equipment technology is fine as long as it doesn't create too unfair of an advantage. My example of this is steroids=aluminum bats. It's just an advantage that is too strong to the point where its use creates an artificial feel to the game. I hope this makes sense and I am not sure if I agree with my scenario that much I was just throwing something out there.
  13. LOL, it's funny because that is the team that made me fall in love with the Cubs. Looking back at that roster, they shouldn't have been a playoff team. PS: Henry Rodriguez was my favorite player and I used to emulate his stance when I hit. I think that between Woody and Sammy, a lot of Cub fans were born in that ERA. True, I also converted my White Sox fan friend into a Cub fan with me. (I was mostly a Yankee fan but really just liked baseball)

  15. IMB is making some good points and it is one of the reasons I find it hard to get all worked up over the steroid issue. The other thing is you never know what stats are steroid inflated and what stats would have taken place if the person didn't use. There are just too many questions associated with the steroid issue for me to get worked up over it.
  16. Yes, but none work as well as testosterone, or synthetic testosterone, or pro-hormones (some of which were legal then, like andro). You can buy creatine all day and use it in any league, but it's not gonna give you the results steroids will. OK, that makes sense. Would it, however, make someone who is underweight and malnourished (like it has been claimed about Sosa) go from looking skinny to what he looks like in that picture above (assuming that's what he legitimately looks like) or would it not have that drastic of an effect?
  17. Another question to add. Aren't there other types of muscle enhancers that are legal or at least were legal during this time period that someone could have been using?
  18. I think Penn State wins by at least ten. I also hope someone hits Krabbenhoft in the junk.
  19. Is NBC the Penguin's channel in the same way it's Notre Dame football's channel?
  20. at the half louisville 19 St. Johns 22 College basketball teams hate scoring don't they?
  21. Big Ten teams really hate scoring don't they?
  22. When I was a kid and started watching hockey I didn't have a solid favorite team. I had three favorite teams the Blackhawks, Blues and Sabres. I also hated the Red Wings (mostly because I like the Blackhawks and the Blues.) My three favorite players were Chris Chelios Brett Hull, and Dominik Hasek. I hate the fact that all three ended up on the Wings and all three won a cup with them. Because of this and the fact that my favorite team got narrowed down to the Blackhawks I hate the Red Wings more than any team in sports.
  23. I'm guessing the guys at Bally's weren't from third world countries. Exactly, it's very possible that Sosa's natural frame wasn't thin and wire but he was underweight because of where he was from.
  24. Kind of the nature of fans when they lose a high quality free agent to the most hated team in the league. It may not be fair but that's the way it is.
