  1. Sosa most likely did use but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't. Maybe he actually did work his ass off and bulk up the way he did. It's logical to think that he had the resources in the US that he didn't growing up in the Dominican. It's always possible. That and people probably wanted to catch him because he's egotistical and the corked bat thing and he's never been caught. So maybe he didn't use. (Or maybe this is just wishful thinking as he is the player who made me fall in love with the Cubs in 1998)
  2. So, Iowa didn't make a 2-pt FG in the first half and are winning by 3. If NW loses this one I think their tournament hopes are about done.
  3. Having played in lots of holiday hockey tournaments, let me tell you its ridiculously draining. And thats obviously on a completely different level than the NHL. By the end of those things its like you are a zombie out there. But its OK because the other team just went through the same thing. In the NHL thats not the case. Hockey is a ridiculously exhausting sport, you can't play too many games in too short of a time. That's a good point. I guess I underestimated how tiring it is because I've never played ice hockey (I played pick up street hockey but that's not close to the level of intensity of organized ice hockey.).
  4. I don't mine a lot of games in few days. That's professional sports but I don't like how we have this long road trip.
  5. Actually they play tomorrow. Still 3 games in 6 days is fairly hectic considering the long road trip.
  6. YESSSSSSSSS!!!! Suck it road trip
  7. I'm really beginning to feel it. We just need a hot goalie. Khabi can be that hot goalie.
  8. Good Blackhawks are back. This team in the playoffs could go a long way.
  9. Hawks have been impressive on the kill tonight. (Que Calgary goal in the last 14 seconds.
  10. An I the only one who laughs when defense man is pressuring the goalie by himself like Keith was after his second penalty?
  11. The word filter saves my banning. I'm flashing back to one of my college roommates who was an IU fan (attending Purdue, I don't know why). He would scream and yell and cuss... and do things like throw shoes at the TV. Really quite exciting. I remember when I was a freshman in high school I shattered our remote as Iowa blew a game. If I watched the Northwestern St. game in my apartment I would have been evicted.
  12. Seriously, how many big white ogres does Wisconsin have. I think they clone them or something
  13. I really hate Wisconsin. I hate how they have some random giant white ogre who can shoot. I hate Marcus Landry. And I hate how Bo Ryan looks like a badger. I really wish they'd lose and continue their losing streak. Too bad it's probably not going to happen.
  14. Crap. It's 2-2. I could see this being a 6-5, 7-6 type game.
  15. Where's the game thread action? 2-1 Hawks in the first 7 minutes. Could be a shootout.
  16. This thread is entertaining during Illinois games. It's very similar to a Cubs game thread only I'm not emotionally attached and I can sit back and enjoy it. On another note I am surprised that Wisconsin has a 12 point halftime lead. I thought they would just free fall the rest of the year. I could still see them blowing the lead in the second half.
  17. I think for sure we beat Minnesota, I'm not sure who else we would have beat though. Maybe Penn State as he would have been better against Cornley than any of our players but Fuller had a good game that he might not of had with Tate in there. IU dominated us so much last night that I don't know if Tate would have meant much there. Plus Iowa doesn't really utilize their post players to begin with (they've gotten better but still struggle) I don't know if he is enough to make up the difference between a win or a loss. I only said that he made the difference against Minnesota because the team kind of fell apart without him after they shot pretty well to start the time period when they didn't have him in.
  18. I mean Tate is there best player, but even when he was health they were picked to finish like 6th in the conference. Tate healthy though....you beat IU ha I don't know. They were up 20 at one point. We are bad right now.
  19. I was being a smartarse. A winning record doesn't mean much in the NCAA. And Iowa might have one or two more wins with Tate in. I don't think Tucker would have meant much. He is a pure shooter and doesn't do anything else well. (I'm so I'm able to keep the discussion on a 12-11 team going :D )
  20. Yes they did. And it was glorious. It's great when even good ole Rat Face's whining can't make a difference for them. i'm mad at myself for not watching this. i guess i was still in mourning over IU blowing their perfect BT season. Yeah Iowa is bad Hey, we have a winning record.
  21. That just might put them in the tourny.
  22. That would mean playoffs at least.
  23. In the '80's we were a top 20 program with a Final Four, Elite 8 (which we lost despite a 20 point halftime lead) and were ranked #1 in three different seasons. In the '90's we were a team that was consistently in the upper half of the Big Ten, in the NCAA's 2/3 years and won our first game every time. Then we hired the hot name guy as new coach. He signed a top 5 recruiting class his first year AND brought in Luke Recker. In '01 we were 17-4 and sitting 1st in the Big Ten in late January until Recker went down for the year. The next year we were preseason top 10 and failed to make the NCAA's. When we finally had a big year in '06 and got a 3 seed in the tournament we got bounced on a buzzer beater. Alford killed much of the fan base. We've made the NCAA's 3 times since 2000 and have won one game. We thought we hired the guy who would bring fans back and could win without having 5-star recruits. He still may be but some of the optimism is gone. That tells you what's going on. This sucks. I hate Luke Recker's knee.
  24. In his defense he is 105 years old.
  25. So what exactly is his deal? I noticed on the Iowa boards that he is getting killed right now. I thought he would be a better fit there. A lot of people are really skeptical about his system and his seemingly unwillingness to adjust it. The team also looks like they are getting worse as the season is progressing, people could take losing if the team looked like they were getting better. On top of that our recruits are terrible when compared with the rest of the conference. There isn't that much hope for the future really. The team also doesn't score consistently which turns away casual fans. Add to that where the team was 10-15 years ago, a team who consistently made the tournament and had sellouts pretty consistently (and the coach was forced to resign), to what you see today you have a lot of upset fans. There is still a lot of anger about Alford in the program and until the team gets to where they were under Tom Davis I think the anger is is going to spread and be directed at whoever is coaching the team. In reality, until Iowa gets a true practice facility that may actually attract decent recruits I think they are going to have to try to win with gimmicky basketball and the Todd Lickliters of the world.
