    You're killing me, Jesse. I've all but written off Scott as an option at this point. Insert "I thought I was out and they pull me back in" joke. We are not getting Pivetta. Before Rea or after Rea. If we add another starter it will be via trade.

    I wouldn't be against the latter option. There have been a few pool space trades today already. Imagine we'll see more.

    Could just be a negotiating tactic by Boras. But I don't hate the idea if it's a real possibility. And definitely gives us some options around the infield.

    I really didn't like giving up both Hope and Ferris in that deal. But you gotta give something to get something and so far Busch has been as advertised and handled 1B pretty well. He's a long-term piece. Hope seemed far enough away that it might take some time but he advanced really quickly. I wish him the best but also "hope" he doesn't turn into an elite player we regret trading for years. That ranking still seems insanely high for this point in his career.

    You go with the best 26 guys. Assad has done nothing but show he belongs since he broke into the majors, whether you believe in his numbers/peripherals or not. If Assad is sent to Iowa to start the season solely because he has options then we've lost the bigger picture.

    Yeah they can add Palencia or someone else. That was just a starting guess. But speaking of.... Our 40 man is full before the Rea signing. Someone is getting DFA'd or a trade is around the corner.

    I'm still trying to make sense of this and if they are talking trade, then this makes a lot of sense as a safe and steady but unexciting back of the rotation filler. IF it is a trade, and I've been thinking, I really want to make something happen with Minnesota. Say Assad and Wicks and Caissie for Lopez and Jax and one of their infielders. Castro, Miranda and Julien have played around the infield and could be the stopgap at 3B and the backup elsewhere. But if they traded for Tucker, only to take him to arbitration and not really upgrade the team around him then I think it's time for a front office (and ownership) overhaul.

    That's the only thing that makes sense to me, is that Assad is being used in a trade elsewhere. But I still don't love it. And if that's not the case, then I don't know. Maybe Jed butt-dialed Rea's agent.

    How is this an upgrade? Am I missing something? I know it's not a lot of money but he's not better than Assad and we have other, more interesting long relievers.

    Cubs were granted an extra option year on Killian, for whatever that's worth.

    So our current pen depth chart is: Hodge (making the team) Pearson (making the team) Morgan (making the team) Miller (making the team, no options) Theilbar (making the team, no options) Thompson (no options) Zastryzny (no options) Merryweather (no options) Festa (no options) So Spring Training could see a lot of turnover potentially if there are more additions (there should/will be) and some surprise performances (someone like Brown or Ethan Roberts or Little or Neely could easily steal a spot).

    Meh. He went to my brother's alma mater so there's that. RIP Mastro. Maybe they try to sneak him through waivers but I could see a team needing a utility bench player sending us some cash.

    The Lux trade is just so confounding from the Reds' standpoint. Roster Resource has him plugged in at DH (lol). As said above, they spent so much time finding a good deal for India to open the infield logjam and then they go out and complicate it again. Either McClain is hurt way more than anyone knows or they are planning more trades. They also still have Noelvi Marte in AAA (yes he had an awful season but was a very good prospect).

    Yeah, good for Rooker. A's took a shot on him and he's blossomed into a solid hitter. He gets paid but also gives them a team discount. I also keep thinking about this tweet from last year. Dude must've been mad because then he went and hit .293!

    Orioles sign 41-year-old Charlie Morton, one year and $15 mil. The Boyd contract looks less bad as the offseason progresses, ha. Orioles have a quietly decent rotation but definitely lacking following Burns' exit.

    Wow the Dodgers DFA'd Diego Cartaya. I know his bat flatlined the last two years but he's just 23 still and was a top 20 prospect in all of baseball before last season. I'm not sure we're a fit anymore but some team is gonna take a shot.

    Lol nevermind. horsefeathers Dodgers. It's not like I really wanted him but of course the Dodgers get another guy.

    I like Workman and Brujan but they are not set in stone on the roster. If you can add a better player, you do it. I have a soft spot for Zastryzny and Thompson but they are not guaranteed spots. Same goes for Merryweather. I am "fine" with things at the moment but I don't think they're done adding just bc a few minor pieces were recently thrown into the mix.

    Yeah and this could also end up being a March trade as teams figure out their depth and benches as ST starts. If we don't sign an important bench bat, I am thinking we do end up waiting awhile.
