Yep. Don't really love their system, but it never hurts to get their names into the bidding acution this early. I'm still dreaming of a Turner and Castellanos package from the Tigers Turner had the dead arm issues in the spring and has struggled badly this year. Until further notice, the shine has worn off considerably for me. Also read the Tigers don't plan to trade for another starter. Could be a smoke screen/things can change, but I don't think they'd offer up a huge package for Garza at this point.

I don't wanna trade Castro. He'll be a star for years. But if we were offered something like: Trout/Garrett Richards/Kaleb Cowert/etc Bundy/Machado/Matusz Lawrie/D'Arnaud/Drabek or Gose it would be interesting to entertain the offer. But those offers will never happen.

When I joined NSBB. Sorta because of video games I cared more about OBP when I was younger and started realizing that was better than batting average, but more advanced stuff didn't come until I read more posts here and read Moneyball. -

Yeah. I liked O-Dog for awhile as a quietly good second baseman. But the time that he was an asset has been gone for some time now. Not worth a flier. Just let Cardenas and Barney duke it out the rest of the year.

Major bummer. Was having a terrible year, but he's my favorite Cub of all time. He'll be sorely missed. Enjoy retirement, Kerry. Hope he gets a job in the organization when he's ready.

Small risk, not bad depth to have in Iowa. Wasn't good in 5 innings this year but was decent last season.

I'll always remember Nick Johnson as the guy who did this: 1999 20 Norwich EL AA NYY 132 G 581 PA 420 ABs 114 R 145 H 33 2B 5 3B 14 HR 87 RBI 123 BB 88 K .345/.525/.548/1.073 He was a pretty good young 1B but injuries always messed him up. Awesome skillset but never a real athletic body and looked 30 when he was 22, which is all easy to say with hindsight. Probably my ideal skillset, even with the HR power. Big fan of guys like him or Wade Boggs (or most any great hitter) who could make a contact, still draw a bunch of walks (though Jeter never walked much and he was a highly skilled hitter) hit doubles and worked the gaps, played D, and hit for average. He just didn't work out. Sans walks, that's why Castro is a future superstar if he keeps developing, and why I have some optimism in The Vitters pulling out a career. He had a few good seasons, most notably 2006 (.946 OPS, 4.6 bWAR). As you said, he had all the right skills but injuries took their toll. An holy ish, I coulda sworn he was at least 36. He's 33.

Yeah, that's just asinine. But this is a shame, easily the greatest reliever of all-time. No way for a career to end.

Why couldn't we have cashed in on him last year? 12 walks in 8.2 innings, three blown saves already. I know we're not going anywhere this year and it's probably best to let him work through this to build up some trade value again, but at the same time it's painful watching him trot out there in the ninth.

Good for him. If he wants to keep trying, who are we to judge? His life, his arm, his dime going into all these surgeries.

That defense would be grotesque. That also assume Soriano doesn't regress more and LaHair maintains his high BABIP. Would be better than some of the alternatives, I guess. Can also see the FO leaving Rizzo in AAA a few more months.
