  1. that cubs' offer blows all rumored boston/ny rumors out of the water. they'd be getting two cheap, above average major leaguers in hill and marmol. i wouldn't do it though. i'd have no problem with a marmol + pie type offer.
  2. the kaz matsui sweepstakes...where the winner is the loser.
  3. prior owes the cubs nothing. he pitched like a $20 mil pitcher for pennies in 2003. i don't feel ripped off by him in the least.
  4. just about every team in baseball could beat that offer. my goodness, is melky worthless.
  5. the downside is now hendry will give someone worse than matsui 3/15.
  6. so it seems like this signing would be an attempt to strengthen the bench (by moving derosa there) even though it would weaken the everyday lineup (by installing matsui). why not just sign mike lamb to play 3b, bench aramis and make that bench really strong?
  7. seriously. the cubs are apparently hemming and hawing about a few mil for prior, but they're perfectly willing to piss away $16 mil on that guy? i'd much rather have mark prior for the next three years than matsui.
  8. a yankee fan friend of mine said that they twins should do a trade centered around melky because if melky can start for the yankees, surely he's good enough for the twins.
  9. i'd love to hear your explanation as to why.
  10. why is hendry looking to decrease the playing time of his one good 2b?
  11. Come on Cuse. First you're assuming hypothetical incentive-laden salary figures as guaranteed and then you definitively say he was on steroids? Doesn't Cuse pretty plainly say, "imo"? it looks like he said definitely in his opinion he took steroids.
  12. what an idiotic system. these conference championship games really screw things up.
  13. more money has been wasted on guys that don't have near wood's upside.
  14. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3128280&campaign=rss&source=MLBHeadlines If I'm reading this correctly he has a $4.2M base salary and $3.45M in potential bonuses? Doesn't that seem kinda steep for a reliever who's a really bad health risk? Assuming the bonuses are for saves and games finished he should get $7.65M if he can grab the closer slot and stay healthy. Still seems pricy to me. I know he had a nice finish last year but there seems to be a pervasive excess of optimism regarding Kerry's health situation. you think it's too much to spend on a guy with health risks even though i'm sure his incentives are related to him staying healthy. then you say if he stays healthy and closes games effectively it's too much to spend for a guy who isn't healthy. even though in your hypothetical, he's healthy. i don't get it.
  15. what part of hill's numbers don't look dominant? and he may be older than crawford, but he's got a lot less service time, so he's considerably cheaper.
  16. eh, i wasn't exactly wowed by daniel...he's a product of mizzou's system. he certainly is accurate and made good reads, but i wasn't bowled over by his arm strength or anything. i don't know if he completed a pass that he threw over 20 yards all night. reesing on the other hand, completed a number of long/difficult throws. if reesing were five inches taller, i don't think there'd be much doubt that he'd be a more successful nfl qb.
  17. what a tackle by the kansas punter...huge play!
  18. by me good work, columbo.
  19. The SOS argument won't matter after this game, you're right. I'm just using it to illustrate the point that they are overrated. Very overrated. I think I've posted this in this thread before, but... Mizzou's opponent's record: 61-63 .492 kU's opponent's record: 47-75 .385 great. if missouri wins, it won't matter. what's the point in mizzou fans bitching about it now when this game will completely take care of it? it's also faulty logic to assume they're not good because they've won every game on a soft schedule, but whatever. Like you said, it'll be irrelevant in about 18 minutes. exactly. if they each had two losses or something, then, yeah, strength of schedule would matter. and i don't really know why mizzou gets credit for having ou on their schedule when they got beat by them.

  21. i don't understand the "kansas' schedule sucks" argument from mizzou fans. if they beat mizzou, what difference does it make that they played a weaker schedule than mizzou? it doesn't make sense. some idiot on some radio show said that mizzou should get to play for the national championship even if they lose to kansas and kansas wins the big 12 title game because mizzou played the tougher schedule.
  22. because david ortiz was once in a-ball means that all guys who are in a-ball will be good.
  23. tebow:meph = cobb:omc
  24. them's fighting words.
