  1. i can't see why you'd be offended if someone assumed something really good about you if you think it's ok to automatically assign some trait to someone based solely on their race -- as long as it's something you deem to be "good" -- i don't know what else to tell you. to me, that's just as offensive as labeling someone with a bad trait based on their race. either way, you're making an assumption about somebody based on the color of their skin, which is just ignorant.
  2. Pff. Don't you have some NSBB thread to summarize and pawn off as and original thought of yours on your web journal? Anyway, it doesn't matter if it's an inside joke or not. My friends and I have tons of inside jokes that would probably be pretty offensive if I said them to anyone else. But I don't. That's why it's an inside joke. However, it stops being an inside joke when you say it to the media. And when your inside joke smacks of racism, well, there you go. Hooray for personal attacks! this is a side-track from the theriot the racist conversation we've got going, but aren't you pretty close to being a grown-up? do you really need to cry "personal attack!" every time someone calls you out on something? you think you're going to be a sportswriter or something, yet every time someone knocks your blog you go tattle tale to the mods. you do realize that when you're working the beat for the cubs in a few years, people are going to criticize you, right? stand up for yourself once in a while. Stand up for myself? How would one go about doing that on a message board? Should I respond in kind with a personal attack on him? And what part of that was "tattling to the mods." It's pretty ironic that he made the childish personal attack and because I refused to respond in kind you are calling me immature. i'm not calling you immature. i'm saying you should stand up for yourself instead of whining about personal attacks to the mods.
  3. i'm not offended, i just think theriot's comments were stupid. i really can't understand how someone would say that stereotyping isn't bad as long as the quality being attributed to the group is "good."
  4. lol, seriously? is this really such a great insight that you felt the need to quote yourself? a stereotype is a stereotype is a stereotype. Saying that asians are good at math might seem like a compliment to you, but it really isn't. so no, all stereotypes are negative. if they weren't, we'd call them generalizations. how is saying that, in general, a group of people are good at something offensive to you? are you serious?

  6. i'm not saying he said it with any racist intent, it's just the kind of ignorant comment you might expect from someone who played their college ball in the south. he probably doesn't know any better.
  7. welcome to america circa 2008 yeah, not having the freedom to assume all asians know karate is going to be the downfall of this great nation.
  8. i heard he was making his eyes slanty when he said it. seriously though, i don't know how you can say he's not stereotyping (unless there's some kind of inside joke going on where fukudome wears a karate gei to the ballpark each day).
  9. those are the kind of lineups you get when the game is in tucson.
  10. always making excuses for the adorable little white guy.
  11. nice stereotyping, theriot. wow.
  12. case closed!
  13. you'd be satisfied trading 7 players off the 40 man for 2? think about that You bet..You acquire Roberts and Fontenot and Cedeno are expendable. You acquire Crisp-where are Pie and Murton gonna play? Marshall is 5-7 starter now. Marquis has been on the market for months. Ceda and Gallagher are 3A pitchers this season anyway, because Hendry was silly and signed Lieber and Wood. so who are you going to use to fill those other 5 roster spots? who cares? are you subscribing to phil rogers' +/- system or something? not saying i'd be happy with those deals, but what's your point?
  14. who was it that kept making posts about how important respect is to japanese players? like they're samauris or something.
  15. good luck on your attempts to master both quoting and sarcasm.
  16. for me, it's equal parts both of those two things and the fact that he's on my fantasy team.
  17. i'm not doing it this year. i like the idea a lot, but it blacks out the cubs, twins, brewers and cardinals. if i had to rank the top four teams i'd want to watch in a given year, those four teams would typically be toward the top. i wonder if i could try and talk them into changing my blackout area or something. i'm assuming they'll call to see if i want to do it again.
  18. if you're the type of person that enjoys reading posts made by people who are right, go back and read my posts early in this thread.
  19. it's a play on words. try and keep up.
  20. yeah, they should be cashing in on the ratings bonanza that are the pirates and the orioles.
  21. people aren't going to ignore it because they like the attention.
  22. i definitely see the connection.
  23. Not a chance I'll let 'em get to me. I simply went to Theriot and told him what the numbers said and asked for his response. People don't see the interview process, but I hit him with stuff he didn't like. And unlike some of those people who like to analyze other people's work, my name goes on what I do. And I show up to face the people I write about. To be fair to Ken Tremendous, he did come out and reveal who he and the rest of their writers are about two weeks ago, even if he doesn't put his real name on every article like he should. Ken's shtick can only work on the internets right now, and he knows it. "Ken Tremendous (Michael Schur), Junior (Alan Yang), and dak (Dave King) are all TV writers. We live in Los Angeles, in places other than our mothers' basements. Please do not send e-mails to us about anything other than sports journalism." I thought Ken Tremendous was Mose Schrute? hate to be the one to break this to you, but, despite the documentary feel of the show, the office isn't real.
  24. you guys always say "stay hot."
