  1. Stop it. I know it's a bit crazy, but what's our signature win? Have you guys even played a conference game yet? UNC was a nice win. That'll look like a good win by the end of the year. No offense, but I'm going to stop complaining about refs in fear of sounding like you guys. Not only should you have killed UIC, but I thought the refs were fairly neutral, maybe even favoring the Illini slightly. Regardless, this was a bad loss but you guys will be fine. You'll make the tourney and be a 3,4, or 5 seed. Yeah I prolly need to just step back. For the record I don't blame this at all on the refs. Not even a little bit. Yeah, that part wasn't directed at you. It's pretty disheartening to see the team not be able to get up for a game played in Chicago at the UC, but they'll be okay. UIC, despite their record, has some decent talent and has beaten/played competitvely with a few ranked teams in the past few years (beat Butler a couple years ago) so it's not the end of the world like my Illini fan roommate is making it seem.
  2. As the resident Vikings fan, if you had to put an honest percentage chance on the Vikings winning this game, what would you guess? 30%? 40%? More? Less? Just curious. I won't let me self feel very comfortable at all about this game. In my pessimistic mind, Peterson is going to pretend it's his rookie year at Soldier Field again, and Webb is going to be Michael Vick. There's a reason they were converting him to a WR. The Bears are going to stop the run and force Webb to beat them, which he will not be able to do.

  4. Rule 5 draft today.
  5. Boozer looked terrible out there today. He was not involved in the offense at all and played lazy defense. I can't even remember one time when they tried to post him up. Hopefully he plays better on Friday and we can get that win.
  6. Do you guys think getting Garza would signal not signing Webb? With the Cubs somehow financially strapped for cash, I just don't see both getting acquired, unless we move Fukudome (which I don't want to happen) or someone like Silva without eating much of his contract.
  7. Right, Lee is the most likely though I'd say. If it's Flaherty/Chirinos/Guyer/somebody, I'm fine with the trade. If it's Lee/Chirinos/BJax/somebody, I have no interest at all. It probably won't be either of those and it depends where in the middle it falls. Lee/Colvin/Chirinos/somebody lesser would be ok to me, but I would think we could get more for Colvin from teams that value his skillset. For some reason I don't see Colvin being included. I would guess it would be something like Chirinos/Lee/2 guys like Guyer/Dolis/Wallach. Total guess obviously, but I just don't see one of our top 5 or so prospects being included in addition to Lee and Chirinos. I'm a big fan of Garza and think he would be great for the Cubs, but even I wouldn't include BJax, McNutt, or even Vitters.
  8. And if we're out of the race by the deadline next year we should be able to move Pena for some decent prospects, assuming he bounces back somewhat.
  9. http://cubbiescrib.com/2010/12/08/the-chicago-cubs-want-matt-garza/ Kind of was hoping to keep Chirinos to use in the deal with Texas to get O'Day and Davis. Maybe one of them would accept one of our other catching prospects instead?
  10. Yeah, everything I've read says they want prospects in return. It was pretty amazing how that one suggestion turned into a 8 page discussion on who is better. Hopefully we'll be able to see over the next couple years while both are pitching for the Chicago Cubs.
  11. Where's Wells? Put Silva in the bullpen as a long man/spot starter or try to trade him and put Wells in the rotation. That's a damn good rotation. We might actually not be horrible.
  12. wow. so overpaid. pujols is going to get 100 million per year
  13. Wow. I envy that organization so much (although im certain he's going to be overpaid).
  14. Z Dempster Webb Garza Wells Silva long man/spot starter How about we trade Gorz (since we appear to be set on trading him) for prospects and then flip them to TB for Garza (probably add another guy or two on top of that). I'd love to sell high on Colvin and include him as well. Let Cashner start in the minors and then insert him in the rotation next year, or this year if needed.
  15. Just curious but what would be your first option? I personally prefer this over the money/years Dunn got and over the prospects given up/money/years Gonzalez got.
  16. I thought about him, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's not in the rotation. Either a salary dump trade later in the offseason to a team that didn't fill it's SP need or a long relief spot in the pen seems like a possibility, at least (and I hope). Yeah I'd like to see him dumped. Preferably eat some money and get a prospect in return. A rotation of Z/Webb/Dempster/Wells/Cashner would at least be mildly exciting to me
  17. And Gorz but they're gonna trade him for an overpriced reliever or 2 24 year old A ball pitchers
  18. Hopefully Cashner will start in the majors – Demp/Z/Wells/Webb/Cashner, am I forgetting anybody? As for the Pena signing, it's a good move. It's better than paying Dunn $56 million over 4 years as long as last year was an aberration. Like you said, let's get the Davis/O'Day for Chirinos/Dolis trade done and hopefully have our first baseman of the present and of the future. Silva. Ugh
  19. A .900 OPS is unlikely since he's never done it before, but a return to his 2009 form of an .893 OPS is very possible, as is 2008's .871. Either way, so long as that BABIP rebounds, he's almost a shoe-in to be a 3+ WAR player. Go back one more year
  20. Thank god if true. I like the 2/$14 rumor better than the 1/$10 but I'm sure there's some sort of option and at least Hendry can't backload the crap out of a contract for once. I prefer Pena under this contract over the one Dunn signed. Let's trade for Davis and Day, let cashner start in the minors and sign Brandon Webb to a team friendly deal and call it an offseason.
  21. Unless you are Hawk Harrelson. Maybe sully is Hawk Harrelson? The Bulls announcers are pretty close to Hawk. Stacey King, yeah. Not really Neil Funk.
  22. But derrick rose makes it a easier.
  23. NBA officiating makes it really hard to like the NBA.
