  1. Why? It's the best in the division and one of the better staffs in the league. As shaky as Hill has been this year, he's still got an ERA under 4. Not bad for your 4th best starting pitcher. It's unrealistic to expect your starting pitchers to pitch their best every game.
  2. where does it have strike three, because it was about 6 inches outside. and as I mentioned, Rich Hill did not get that same pitch twice in a row to Rollins (strike 2) I'll also note that Kendall is really bad at framing pitches. In fact I'm not even sure he tries to do it; he seems to catch a lot of balls with the palm facing up. Most major league umps don't get fooled by framing pitches. No, he's not good at it, but it's also not really that note-worthy...unless Kendall is playing little league on the side.
  3. 3 of our RBI tonight have come from the bottom 3rd. The fourth came from Murton...hitting 5th. But I typically hate them too. Tonight.....not so much, though.
  4. What happened with Jacque? Did he lose another ball in the lights?
  5. I was definitely enjoying that too, though I can't really say whether or not I like that better than the Brewers running back to their bullpen in the 3rd or 4th inning. If the Mutts and Cubs hold on, life is gooood :D I was actually more concerned lately with the Cards than the Brewers. I like the Brewers team a lot, but they've been struggling lately against bad teams and they have no idea how to win away from Miller Park. I do love seeing an already shaky Brewers bullpen being forced into the game early after a 13 inning game the night before. Beautiful.
  6. I think the best part of tonight so far is the Cardinals getting thrashed by the Pirates. I was starting to get a little worried about the Redbirds, but now I remember that the Cardinals have no pitching.
  7. I probably can do it. I don't know for sure yet. That said, the later it is, the more likely I am to be able to do it.
  8. If Junior were to come here, would they keep him in RF? I'd assume so...too injury prone for CF
  9. Will Carroll reported it a couple days ago. I would pass as well on that one, a pointless deal, Conine isn't much of an upgrade at all. Yeah, I agree. I hadn't heard anything about it though so just figured I'd post it. It seems like a pointless trade. Anyways, what ever happened to it?
  10. Just got a text from a friend about a trade with Cincinati. Unfortunately not for Dunn. Conine for Jones and a prospect. Don't know where he got his info from so take it with a grain of salt.
  11. 4th and Goal: For now, the keepers are: Shaun Alexander RB Rudi Johnson RB Roy Williams WR
  12. I'm coming to the conclusion Barrett was our biggest problem the past 2 years. Notice our record since Barrett departed and notice the Padres record when Barrett starts. It's not good for the Padres. I can't tell if you are kidding. Are people still thinking that the reason we couldn't win early in the season was because the catcher didn't hit badly enough? The Cubs winning has more to do with the team playing better and finally catching breaks. The team is winning in spite of the catchers, not because of them. Maybe I over spoke when I said biggest problem. I just think yesterday, when Wuertz was pitching the balls Soto blocked are passed balls if Barrett was catching. Maybe. There is a slightly higher chance that Barrett would have allowed a PB. Or maybe he would have had another hit or two, and made the situation less important to begin with. These things don't happen in a vacuum. Well if all the talk about Barrett not truly being the person that he is often portrayed in the media is true, then that could have something to do with the Cubs success. Obviously it's not the only thing, but better clubhouse chemistry helps. Most of the time clubhouse chemistry is created by winning, but sometimes if there's a lot of tension in your clubhouse, it can cause players to underperform. Mental mistakes are also demoralizing to a team and momentum does play a part in a baseball game. Barrett had his fair share of stupid mental mistakes. All that said, I'd rather have Barrett than any of the catchers we have (including Kendall). I don't really believe all that stuff I typed in the first paragraph, but it makes me feel better about the situation. Anyways, hopefully Kendall can ride out a hot streak and help us make the playoffs.
  13. I wouldn't mind those 2 guys if we can get them relatively cheap. I'd prefer Gagne over Lofton also. Although Lofton makes our lineup fill in nicely. Lofton Fontenot Lee Ramirez Soriano Floyd/DeRo Theriot Catcher Pitcher
  14. And the Rockies have a runner on 3rd with one out and the top of the order due up. Edit: Damn! 2 outs! Spillborghs sucks.
  15. I thought Len said Jon Garland was singing the 7th inning stretch. That would be interesting.
  16. Besides the 3-5, are there any opther good hitters on the team right now? DeRosa is solid, but the rest are garbage. Agree, although Fontenot is decent at 2B. We need a SS and/or Catcher that can hit...or a huge bat in RF.
  17. NBA Championship here we come! Joe Smith is basically Pj Brown. Bulls still need a big man Smith is an easy upgrade over Brown, and the rest of the bench-filling forwards on this past season's roster. 06-07 PER 13.95 Smith 10.98 Sweetney 10.46 Allen 09.75 Brown 09.44 Khryapa As I've written before, I expect Thomas to take a step forward this coming season. His PER was 14.80. Deng's PER during his rookie season was 14.20. You are assuming hes coming off the bench. Huh? You said Smith is basically Brown and 1908 showed that Smith is indeed a pretty significant upgrade over Brown. In addition to that, Thomas was better than both as a rookie and should continue to improve this year. That was what I was referring to. I really have no problem with this deal if Thomas is starting, and Smith is off the bench. That said, I expected more coming into the off season. I don't really care who "starts" as long as Tyrus is getting the majority of the minutes. What do you propose we should have done this offseason?

  19. It's not the FA class that I'm upset about. Let's be honest, this class was complete garbage and it is real pathetic how guys like Rashard Lewis are getting max deals. But I'm upset with Paxson's inability to pull a trigger on a deal. If those rumors were right, Paxson had to have been crazy to not pull the deal on Gasol. Does anyone really expect this team (with no real upgrades) to go farther than we were this past season? Cleveland isn't going to get any worse and we still can't match up with Detroit's guards. What deal are you talking about? Some random sports writer speculated Noc, Duhon, Noah, and "filler" for Gasol. Is that the deal you are talking about? If that's the deal, I think Pax would have done it. However, unless that "filler" is Ben Gordon or Luol Deng, I doubt Memphis would do it. And if you trade either Gordon or Deng (along with Noc and Noah), I don't think we are much of a better team, if at all. You can't force teams to trade us their stars for our scrubs. I think this team will be much better next year. Deng is still improving, Thomas is improving, Thabo is improving, and Noc could not have possibly played any worse against Detroit. Add in Noah and possibly some contribution from Curry and Gray and you got an improved basketball team. If the Bulls can get off to a better start this year, they should win the 2 seed.
  20. How exciting. Pax blew this. :?: What do you propose he should have done?
