  1. Too bad Ramirez or Soto couldnt coax a walk. I'll take it though. So we'll probably have 3 innings with the Giants pen.
  2. 2008 Brewers bullpen=2007 White Sox bullpen.
  3. I hope Sean Marshall understands the importance of his next start.
  4. Looks like Manny Parras shaping up to be the latest gem to come out of the gold mine that is the Brewers farm system.
  5. Definit: Soto, Soriano Likely: Zambrano, Ramirez(the only way Id see him left out is if Wright is given the nod as the sole Met rep, and they dont want a 3rd 3B) Possible: Wood, Dempster, Fukudome
  6. If a hitter can go on a horrible slump and get out of it, I'd assume a pitcher can as well. The problem is, when a hitter slumps, the worse he can do is ground into a double play and kill a rally. A pitcher can implode and cost you multiple runs and games. It becomes worse when it's a pitcher who we've relied on so heavily. Also, when a hitter slumps, maybe you move him down in the order, let him get a few hits and work his way out of it. With a pitcher, you have to be more careful. Hes just as likely to give up runs in the 5th as he is the 8th. So what to do? You can't sit him, or he gets rusty, and doesnt get the chance to work himself out of it. You can't keep putting him in key situations, or you lose ballgames. Do we use him as a mop up man for a little while while he gets his act together? Then who do we use for the 7th or the 8th? Wuertz, Cotts, and Ascanio havnt proven they can do any better. Howrys been doing better, but we don't want Lou doing to him what he may have already done to Marmol. I'm all for giving Hectro Carasco a go of it. Kick someone off the 40 man. If it doesnt work out, DFA him, and go to plan B.
  7. Linecum=really, really good Gallagher=pretty good Cubs offense=really, really good Giants offense=really, really bad This one could go either way. The way Cain embarassed us the other day, hopefully they'll take it out on Linecum. Hell, the Royals chased him after 5 not too long ago.
  8. 2 run single for Easley. 4-3 Cards
  9. The Mets just arent that good of a team. The heart of the lineup, Wright, Beltran, Church, Delgado is really nothing special, and aside from Santana and Wagner, their pitching is a joke. As a team, I think Id rank them as equal to the Astros.
  10. Id like to say hes a shell of his former self, but hes not even a shell of Jason Marquis' former self.
  11. Give it up Pedro. These days, youd be lucky to beat Don Zimmer.
  12. The Rays kind of remind me of an exciting young small market team from 2007 who a lot of people thought could win it all last season. Well they didnt.
  13. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=sh-midseasongrades070108&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Heres some interesting toilet reading for you. Good to see the CUbs with an A.
  14. The best way to go from an offensive standpoint is to platoon Ward and Johnson if LF until Soriano comes back.
  15. Yes, actually. The Cubs will not see Volquez in the Cincy series because he pitches Sunday. They might not see Harrang either, but for him it depends on how the Reds arrange the rotation after their off day. My guess is that the Giants will skip somebody to give Lincecum an extra start before the All-Star Break. If they do, the Cubs will see both Cain and Lincecum again next weekend. Believe it or not, I want to see Cain again. we couldnt touch him at his house, but in Wrigley, hopefully it will be a whole different story, and definitely a different lineup, maybe including Soriano. As for Volquez and Linecum, if we could miss them, that would be super.
  16. any chance of us missing Volquez?
  17. Whatever happens tonight, I'm going to go out on a limb and say we beat Linecum tommorow.
  18. All 3 NL 1st place teams are playing their worst ball of the season.
  19. That is a good point. While we are all excited to get JOhnson back, if for nothing else for the sake of restoring some normalcy to the lineup, theres really no point bringing back a guy who cant hit righties to save his life vs. a team with 2 lefties on theentire staff, one whose mediocre at best(Villone) and one who we probably wont see anyway(Mulder). They may as well just give Marshall 1 more start, and maybe he'll catch some eyes from the scouts.
  20. Step 1: Keep everyone healthy. Step 2: Add starting pitcher. Step 3: Win it all.
  21. I guess I should look a stats more. He was pretty brutal at the bottom of the order though, and leadoff seems to be where he did OK for himself, although that didnt quite work out earlier this season.
  22. Problem is, Theriot was doing just fine at the 2 spot. Last year, his decline came when they moved him down toward the bottom.
  23. Im just going to go ahead and put this out there. I know its another lefty, and I know he just came back from injury, but is there any chance theyd consider bringing Pie back, but only as long as Soriano stays out? He brings better defense than the alternatives, and cant be that much wose of a hitter.
