  1. Hes got to be out of his mind. Who the hell wants to end up paying that much for a 45 year old in a few years. And we all know what happens when Manny decides hes not happy. Say he decides hes not happy a few years into the deal, and the unlucky team has the task of moving that contract for a guy in his mid 40's.
  2. He is a .900+ career OPSer, but hes also 35 years old, and hes going to want a multi year deal, and I doubt he comes cheap. If any mores are made this off season, it should be for a big time impact hitter who can bat in the 3 or 4 spot. At thisn point in his career, he would be a number 5 hitter at this point, and he is not the answer were looking for.
  3. Heres a thread from Brewerfan.net. Apparently, some of them want Ryean Theriot. http://brewersfandemonium.yuku.com/topic/15668 They seem to be entertaining a Theriot for Weeks scenerio. While I have no interest in Rickie Weeks, Id be all about something along the lines of Theriot, Sean Marshall, and Mike Wuertz for JJ Hardy. Granted, I dont see it happening, but I find it interesting how much they seem the think we value Theriot. Sure, hes a good player, and silenced his critics for the most part, but hes by no means untouchable.
  4. Be patient. I love how Sori's advice to the fans is what the entire fan base would love for him to do, be patient. This guy is amazing! First, the bold prediction that 2009 is coming.... ooooh!!! And then BE PATIENT? Are you kidding me? I think its a brilliant prediction. He just said 2009 is coming. He never said what it would bring. Now how can you argue with that? However, knowing Soriano, some massive disater will wipe out mankind in the e=next few months, and there will be no 2009, making Sotiano once again, WRONG
  5. and that's exactly the way it should. I would be very happy with this, as long as there was say 1 substantial addition. We need either a star bat that we can count on for the number 3 spot, or else a mindless power bat for the 4 spot and move Ramirez to the 3. I dont think Lee is washed up, but he should be a 5 or 6 hitter, as he always should have been. he had that insane 2005, but other than that, what we got from him this year is more of what he has been throughout his career.
  6. How about Colorodo as a trade partner? They were entertaining the idea of trading some of their plaer at the deadline, but changed their mind. I wouldnt mind goinf after Holliday or Hawpe. Hawpe could be that sold lefty bat that weve needed. I wonder what theyd want in return for him.
  7. Theriot would fit in perfectly with the Twins current game plan of gritty little guys.
  8. You never know with Hendry. It all depends on how much money he has to work with. As I recall, in the pre 2007 off season, we werent even in the Soriano hunt, it was down to the Phillies and Angels, and then not only did hendrt swoop in and grab him, but he got Aramis back, who the Angels and Phillies were also both after as soon as he opted out of his old deal. Hendry can work come magic.
  9. The Cubs offense did well against most pitchers. Its just the 3 we ran into in October that kept them down, and I get the feeling that pretty much any pitcher would have shut them down at that point.
  10. They definitely have no reason to rebuild, just add on. With all the NTCs attached to the big contract players, I highly doubt that next years team will look all that different, and why should it?
  11. The worst part will come of the White Sox manage to get past Tampa, and the media who has loved the Cubs all season and waited for the White Sox to collapse will be talking about how resiliant the White Sox have been while the Cubs did nothing but let their fans down as usual.
  12. I think the first question we should be asking is does Hendry have the green light to anything big before the ownership situation is taken care of.
  13. Id be willing to take out a flyer on him, if they be willing to accept a package revolving around Cedeno and maybe a few prospects.
  14. Beltran is the only person who sound able to obtain and fits that bill I don't see the Mets trading Beltran and what do we have that the Mets would want? I don't seem them either, but that's the consensus on who everyone else think is obtainable. Who do you propose? Adam Dunn comes immediately to mind. Everyone on here always say they want him. Believe me I totally would be down for getting him, but is remotely possible to get him? or is it just the same man love for the guy that would be hard to trade for? Why couldn't we get him? I'm sure he'd have no problem playing in Wrigley. Just got to make him a offer. I'm not saying we couldn't and by no means would I have a better idea than you. I just haven't heard any possible chance that they will move him. Isn't Dunn a free agent after this year? I don't think so? If he is then you got me sold totally and he'd be 10X better than Beltran :good: 2008 was Dunns option year, and he is a free agent for 2009. However, I really dont see Hendry being ble to pick up that big of a free agent on the offseason with the ownerssip in question. Bradley would be a better bet.
  15. So when are teams allowe to start wheeling and dealing again? Isnt something like midnight after the last out of the final game of the WS?
  16. We were left with an extremely bitter taste in our mouth, but the team doesnt need as much help as we think. Move Marquis for prospects or cash Resign Wood and Demp Sign Joe Beimel Sign Milton Bradley to a 2 year deal with an option for 3rd and 4th Re sign Blanco if we can get him for cheap, if not, keep Koyie hill as back. 2009 opening day 1. Soriano LF 2. Theriot SS 3. Ramirez 3B 4. Soto C 5. Bradley CF 6. Lee 1B 7. DeRosa RF 8. Fontenot 2B bench Hoffpauir Fukudome Johnson(vs LHP, start him in RF and DeRo at 2B) Cedeno Pie K. Hill Rotation Zambrano Harden Dempster Lilly Marshall/Hill-we'll want both on hand, as I wouldnt want to bet on a Harden having a full season Pen Wuertz/Guzman Shark Beimel Gaudin Marmol Wood
  17. I can honestly say that I have no idea what the hell Soriano is talking about. This team was built to win it all, or at least not get swept in round 1 by an inferior team. Just admit that you choked when it counted, and failed in the long run. Zambrano and Harden both pitched well enough to win. The defense screwed Z, the offense screwed Harden. Dempster screwed himself with walks, and wasnt as ready for the pressure he probably caused for himself with his pre season comments as he thought he was. When a team dominated during the regular season and collpases in the playoffs thats just choking, plain and simple. No excuses. Just come ready to play next year or stay home and count your money.
  18. Seriously, the Rays need to end this tonight. The last thing I want to hear about all winter is the resialiancy of the White Sox who werent supposed to go anywhere after the Cubs choked away their 97 win season.
  19. they seem to be similar players. Little guys who can hit, and have surprising power for their size. They both have great bat speed. Maybe Fontenot would need to gain about 10-15 pounds, and hed be about Dustins size. We could definitely use that type of player on the Cubs.
  20. I was for the Phils all the way. I dont know about others, but when my team fails, I dont root for my rivals to succeed. Go Rays! Go Phillies!
  21. Kind of funny how the Brewer fans have become so used to failure that they seem to be chalking this season up as a success. They really wrent as much of an underdog as they seem to let themselves believe, with only 2 fewer wins than the Phillies had. Much like the Cubs, they just didnt come out to play, and the opponent did, and as they have become so accustomed to, 2009 looks to be another rebuilding year for them.
  22. I have a lot of cool Cubs memorabilia, that might be satisfing to burn. Like I said, not going to happen. My Fukudome jersey shirt, on the other hand...
  23. The Brewers look like their season is going to last about half a day longer than the Cubs. I wouldnt call that a cruel pranl. A cruel prank, on the 100 year mark would be a Cardinals/White Sox WS.
  24. How about just keep on adding games until the Cubs get a lead. Seriously, the playof system is the way it is, and thats not going to change. The Cubs just didnt show up to play.
