  1. I like this move, even though Fukudome might not. Looking at that list: Griffey- old, brittle Hinske- more of a fourth OF, DH type though he would be cheap Bradley- injury prone, but good when healthy Abreu- power numbers deteriorating, not getting any younger and won't be cheap Ibanez- butcher in the OF, can still hit, won't be too pricey Dunn- expensive, OF butcher, but great power threat Anderson- declining in every category, doesn't walk, could hit .290 but won't add much else and would probably want a multi-year deal Looking at those options, I'd go for Dunn, Bradley and Ibanez in that order. Griffey-no thanks Hinske-no thanks Bradley-I'll take him Abreu-I'll take him Ibanez-last resort Anderson-last, last resort, ala Jeromy Burnitz/Jacque Jones Dunn-hed demand a huge contract, and if he produces, Hendry will be called the best GMever a genius, and if he busts, the worst.
  2. While giving Fontenot a chance is definitely intriguing, if he fails, do we have a good enough offense to make up for it until we can make a mid season trade? We still need that solid 3 or 4 hitter to compliment Ramirez, and thats not something that will come cheap or easy.
  3. If he can net us something good in return as part of a trade, seeyuh. A Fuku/Johnson platoon in CF is fine by me. Agreed. Fuku/Johnson is just fine, and in a few years time, hopefully Colvin will be ready. Pie and Marshall should be more than enough for Brian Roberts if we still want him. I'd rather they go after someone the can hit in the middle of the order. Dunn or Hermida would be just fine. If they were to go for a vet, Im guessing theyd go for a cheaper option. Both Garrett Anderson and Raul Ibanez, who are esentiallt the same guys ar both lefties, and could come fairly cheap, as opposed to Dunn or Abreu. Granted, they're both pushing 40, but they're still serviceable. If we could get one of those guys for say a 2 year 15-18 million deal, I say go for it. lets face it, I really dont see the payroll stretching far enough to afford another 15+ mil/year type player.

  5. It would be great if this meant we be getting someone like Dunn, Holliday, or Abreu, but more than likely, it means that DeRosa will move to RF and either Fontenot will get 2b or we'll go after Roberts again.
  6. Build something around Sean Marshall and Ronny Cedeno or Ryan Theriot and we could be in buisness.
  7. Doing anything to help a division rival doesnt make any sense at all. Maybe, at the trade deadline if team A is well out of it, they can send team B a player, but during the offseason, theres no way anything like that would happen.
  8. We've been their hated rivals for most of their NL existence. one of those cases where they hate us more than we hate them. Since they havnt really had a natral rival since coming to the NL, they cose us, even though ours is still the Cards.
  9. Soriano aint going nowhere. Thats just the way it is. Probably not Fukudome either. Holliday, however, is a difference maker type of player, as Soriano was thought to be. He could be our number 3 hiter we need so badly, and let Lee bat 5th or 6th as he should. I dont know what it will to get him, but if its possible, hopefully, Hendry can make it happen
  10. I guess Im more so voting against McCain than for anyone. Besides, this is Illinois. They'd vot for Hitler/Stalin if it were the democratic ticket
  11. This really doesnt sound realistic. Theyd essentially never be able to afford another free agent.
  12. Its not like there were some huge 2009 plans for him with the big league club. Hes still young, so hopefully it will be a success, and he can be a productive part of the Cubs future.
  13. I really dont think his numbers are a fluke at all. Hed be agreat #3 hitter in front of a solid #4, or a great #4 behind a solid #3, hint hint Hendry. Did he really deserve the Aaron award though? No big surprise that a Cub and a Red Sock both won a top award voted on by the fans though, deserved or otherwise.
  14. Does he think hes writing an article for a video game audience? Seriously, that might be the most [expletive] trade proposal that has been published...thats quite an accomplishment. It's worse than some of the most ridiculous trade proposals that posters on ESPN.com and Cubs.com would propose. But what do we know, we've never been in a big league locker room while everyone played grabass and poker. With the fact that wed not only be getting one of the best pitchers in the league, plus swapping our first baseman for a younger, better, at least offensively first baseman suggests that wed also end up giving up god knows what. Hey, Id be all for it, but I really, really dont see such a deal going down.
  15. I think Listach could have been a good choice for Brewers manager. I dont think they're the type of team that a vertaran manager will be able to do much. They're still a yound team that could benefit from a young manager.
  16. I wonder if we could get either of those guys for a Marshall, Pie/Colvin, Fontenot/Theriot/Cedeno, Atkins/Veal/Hart type of package if were willing to pick up a nice chunk of the contract.
  17. CF or RF. W could live with 1 of Fukudome/Pie/Reed Johnson type in the lineup, but I rather have a more solid hitter at the other position.
  18. I thought there was an old Holliday thread, but I couldnt find it, so here gos. I know other teams have more to offer, and would love to have him, but Hendrys worked miracles before. Time to earn that extension of yours Jim. Do what you gotta do.
  19. And epic battle between 2 teams who repeatedly fail to get the job done in the end.
  20. As I said before, if the Brewers give up Fielder, Hart, and Hardy for Peavey, they'll be just as bad as the Padres are now. an ace, a solid number 2, and a few good hitters. and why do people keep ignoring the fact that Peavy never mentioned Milwaukee as one of the cities hed be OK with?
  21. may be the most pointless 2.39 minutes ever.
  22. That scares me to think of the Cardinals picking up Prior as a reclamation project. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3654950&name=olney_buster Between Carpenter, Mulder, and Clment, Im thinking that the Cards will be very gun shy when it comes to injury prone pitchers.
  23. Al Yellon also seems to think us trading for Matt Cain, then packaging him and other players for RICKY NOLASCO is a great idea. That said, I have no idea how likely the probability is, it's a unique situation without much precedent. Matt Cain AND Hinshaw for Derrek Lee. The same Matt Cain that is being proposed would take Fielder and Hardy from the Brewers. Trade Derrek Lee for Matt Cain and Alex Hinshaw? But then you trade Matt Cain AND Felix Pie for Ricky Nolasco? Yikes. And then sign Sergio Mitre and trade him and Nolasco for Juan Pierre. Circle complete.
  24. So if Manny does get a 4-6 year deal, will the lucky team be getting the contract hunting Manny that the Dodgers had or the lazy, disgruntled Manny that the Red Sox had this season?
