  1. I cant wait to see how all the Woody love turns out after we flip Gregg over to the Padres for Peavy and give Woody a huge contract, and he spends 80% of the season on the DL. Remember, this isnt the first time that Woody supposedly threw his last pitch in a Cubs uniform.
  2. Hes still Kerry Wood. Hes still got killer stuff. Hes still incredibly injury prone.
  3. I definitely have mixed feelings on this deal. Kevin Gregg is a quality reliever, and defiitely less of an i jury risk than Woody, however, Ceda was one of our best trade chips if we were to aquire a quality lefty bat. Also, Ceda has the potential to be far better than Gregg, who is in his last year under team control.
  4. So who will the White Sox have embarass themselves in their intollerable commercials next year?
  5. He's a minor league free agent as of Nov. 6th, along with the rest of this crew. Chicago Cubs (15) RHP: Mike Burns (AAA), Hector Carrasco (AAA), Adam Harben (AAA), Billy Petrick (AAA) LHP: Carmen Pignatiello (AAA), Jason Stanford (AAA) 1B: Matt Craig (AAA) 2B: Robinson Chirinos (Hi A), Bobby Scales (AAA) SS: Andres Blanco (AAA), Luis Figueroa (AAA) OF: Doug Deeds (AA), Jason Dubois (AAA), Josh Kroeger (AAA), Andres Torres (AAA) The only ones I'm likely to miss at all are Petrick, Pignatiello, Craig, and Kroeger... though I might miss Harben and Dubois just because I had such high hopes for them. Craig needs to move on for his own good if he ever has a snowballs chance in hell to spend a day in the majors. Pignatiello walked his way into Lous doghouse without getting a chance to redeem himself. I had high hopes for him at one point. If Petrick stays in the organization, his future will pan out similarly to those of Cliff Bartosh and Ryan O'Mally, and never be seen or heard from again. Kroeger is the only one Id like to keep around, and I dont think its likely.
  6. I'd imagine he splits the difference pretty well. The numbers last year looked kinda flukey, but he did lose a tick off his fastball and his slider isn't good enough to cover that up. FLUKEY?!? Every other ball he threw ended up on waveland.
  7. That was a fun few weeks. Now go re sign Dempster and get us a lefty. GO!
  8. While hes a great addition to the anemic A's offense, hes not enough to make that team a contender. However, Beane knows what hes doing, and Im very curious to see what his next steps are. The fact that he gave up 2 top prospects suggests that hes not building for the future here, and plans on contending sooner than later.
  9. I think thats Lous way of sending a message to Jim, that message being stop dicking around and get me a lefthanded hitter.
  10. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8782170/Brewers'-veterans-could-be-dealt-for-pitching-help Christ Towers, why are you wasting time with the Braves, who are unwilling to include their top prospects when Hendry is basically willing to give up any prospect or prospect package, minus Samardzjia, who he is unable to due to an NTC.
  11. Doesnt sound like groundbreaking news, but its a pretty big blow to the Brewers already decrepid bullpen.
  12. The only guys I see re-signing are Chirinos (who cares) and Dubois (just because the Cubs gave him a second chance). If I were Kroeger or Craig, I'd also retire before I re-signed with the Cubs...go someplace else, where they need you and will use you correctly. Scales and Torres both had solid seasons, but will move on to other teams like usual...I'd personally like to see them back as insurance policies. A lot of these guys are career minor leaguers, but still feel they could make a big league club. However, theyve probably figured out that with the Cubs, it isnt going to happen, as wed rather go after free agents than give one someone like that a chance. Obviously, no team will go all out and offer any of these guys a guaranteed big league deal, but theyd probably rather sign a minor league deal with an invite with one of the small market or rebuilding teams in which they actually have a chance to make the big league club. With the winter numbers Kroeger is putting up, a lot of teams are going to be interested in him. Hes still young enough that he can be called a prospect without using air quotes, and I wouldnt be surprised to see him with the Royals or Nats next year.
  13. Im starting to get a similar excitement level about Kroeger as I did about Hoffpauir last year. Kroeger is young enough that he could still be considered a prospect without using quotation marks around it, and I just hope hes given a chance this spring training. Correct me if Im wrong, but he is a minor league free agent, and anyone can scoop him up, and if he keeps it up, his Winter League numbers should be more than enough for several teams to at least take out a flyer on him.
  14. Peavy to the Cubs talk has really only been hot for a week or so, it still has a few months to get on the Brian Roberts level. The weird thing about the Brian Roberts stuff. I didn't even really want him all that bad. It just got to the point were It felt like he was a Cub already, after months of rumors saying that it should happen any day. So I just wanted the deal done, and him to be offically on the team already, or the trade talks done. Peavy on the other hand is a pitcher who I really want. So I don't want this to end unless he ends up on the Cubs. Then again it start out slowly last yr. And technically the Cubs don't need Peavy, just like the Cubs didn't need Roberts last yr. I agree. Peavy would be nice, but before he went on the block, and we were close, we were happy with the rotation as long as we could re sign Dempster. We seem to be losing sight of what we really need, which is a lefty bat for the heart of the order.
  15. Either Burnett or Lowe. C.C. Sabathia? Im thinking if Hendry loses out on Dempster, that means that someone offered well more than he was willing too, thus inflating the pitching market so that the 3 mentioned above would demand even more money, and as far as starting pitching goes, we'd either walk out empty handed or end up settling for a lesser pitcher like a Freddy Garcia, Oliver Perez, or Jon Garland.
  16. Becasuse they might have to pay Willingham and Olson money one day not too far down the road, and thats not how the Marlins do things.
  17. How cute, the Natspos think they can put a baseball team together. The way the Marlins operate, maybe we can get Hanley Ramirez for Sam Fuld and Mike Wuertz.
  18. Thats somewhat of a surprise. Better Oakland than St Louis.
  19. Different people said each, though. Before Monday, before Thanksgiving, before the end of the winter meetings, before new years, before spring training, before opening day, a deal is still in the works, before the july non waiver trade deadline...weve been there before. Seriously, this things like a horse race. 1 minute the Cubds are ahead, one minute the Braves, and it keeps switching, and it propbably will continue that way until hes moved, whenever that happens. And as far as a Peavy demanding a deal that doesnt take the Braves out of contention next year, then it will have to be one that somehow makes the Phillies and Mets not significantly better than the Braves. However, if we dont get Peavy, I have a very strong feeling that we'll end up with almost the exact same team as last year, minus Ward, Edmonds, and Howry, being replaced with Hoffpauir, Pie, and Wuertz
  20. If this is what they want from the Indians, God knows what theyd want from us. If the O's are really that bonkers, I think we can forget about Roberts. Saw that too. They are crazy. McPhailing. Big time. Unless this is Angelos flexing his love Sad thing for the O's will be when Roberts leaves Baltimore as a free agent, and the O's only get a late 1st rd and a compensation pick for him. Either that or something like Sam Fuld at the trade deadline.
  21. Id like to see Kroeger stick around and get a chance, but Craig is what, 28 now? He'll never have a shot with the Cubs, so he should go somewhere where he'll at least have an opportunity.
  22. If this is what they want from the Indians, God knows what theyd want from us. If the O's are really that bonkers, I think we can forget about Roberts.
  23. So, you are saying there is a deal? No. I was just messin' with you. Trying to get all the info I can, ya know? Oh, I know. Quite OK. :D So what are the chances that a deal could be done by Monday as was stated at one point?
  24. Thats when you pray to God for Rich Hill to return to at least mediocrity.
