  1. Congrats to Maddux. Not many guys win an award of any kind in their last year.
  2. Giambi-.247/.373/.502/.875 32 hr Lee-.291/.361/.462/.823 20 hr As I stated, Im not sure how much of a defensive liability Giambi is, but the offensive numbers are a significant upgrade.
  3. I know I'll get mercilously attacked for even suggesting this, but if we did move Lee somehow, would Jason Giambi be a respectable replacement? The Yanks declined his option and arent expected to try and bring him back. Can he still play a productive first base, or is he better off DHing somewhere? he has a .247/.373/.502 line with 32 HRs. The average is dismal, but the rest of the numbers are pretty solid.
  4. Kroegers quietly putting up some Hoffpauir-esque numbers over there. Maybe he'll have a shot at the team, or maybe even get noticed by some scouts, preferably from the Padres.
  5. Its called knowing when to quit.
  6. Glavine and Smoltz should go out with him. How great would it be for the best pitching rotation of our time to go into Cooperstown together? Maybe they'll even let Steve Avery drive them to the induction.
  7. Most trade scenerios never work. Its all nothing more than specualtion.
  8. I agree, I think the Padres would take that deal and run for the hills if they can get it, but will Hendry offer it? I think he will. You possibly recoup some of those prospects by offer arby to Dempster and maybe Howry (if some team is supid enough to sign him before the Cubs offer). Even if you don't offer Howry, you still would get two draft picks for Dempster. So offering that deal of Theriot/Pie/Marshall/Vitters for a reasonably signed for the forseeible future Peavy is a pretty much a bargain. I'd understand if Peavy was a soon-to-be-free agent, but Peavy is under contract till 2011/12 so giving up the young talent to get Peavy would be justified. And Hendry let Towers win at golf today, if you play. After 100 years, and the 2008 debackle, Im all for mortgaging the future for the present, if it will get us a spectacular present. That way, we might not be able to net a Dunn or Abreu, but we still could have enough on the farm to pry Hermida away from the Fishies. Peavey Zambrano Harden Lilly Marquis/Samrdzjia/Hill/Dempster/Whoever sick, sick, sick
  9. I agree. If we did such a deal, with Ceda involved, we could probably land Greene in the prcoess and let him fight it out with Ronny for SS. On a side note, what ever became of Todd Walker. He was always a serviceable utility man and lefty bat, but after a few stints with the Pads and A's, he fell completely off the map.
  10. Seriously though, I know how it works, you start somewhere, and go from there, but Pie, Cedeno, and Hill isnt even a serious start. Please take this once top prospect +2 pices of garbage for the best player in the league Padres. Who knows, maybe Uncle Jimmy will go all out and sweeten the deal with Carmen Pignietello. Who could refuse that offer.
  11. Maybe he thinks that nobody elses noticed Rich Hills full collapse.
  12. They wouldnt dare. And they better not even think about Donnie Veal.
  13. So if we do get Peavy, and the Yanks or Dodgers get C.C., I wonder if the Brewers would make a play for Dempster. makes perect sense. Theyd have some cash to spend, plus theyd have some leftover to fill some more holes, which they do have plenty.
  14. Aside from Hughes and Kennedy, I dont know what the Yankees really have to offer. Melky Cabrera isnt any more enticing than Felix Pie at this point, and the Yanks may be more inclined to throw money after CC. The Angels already have a great rotation, and again, I dont know how much they'll be willing to part with for what could end up a luxury for them.
  15. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081103&content_id=3661385&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Good for him.
  16. I know its all guess work, but these types of things always interst me
  17. If I thought that there was a snowballs chance in hell that Harden could pitch a full season, Id say go ahead, let him go, but I doubt that will happen. Hopefully Uncle Jimmy can get uber agressive after Peavy at the meetings, and if nothing else find out for sure if we have a shot at getting him or target someone else. Zambrano Harden Lilly Marshall Marquis is an iffy rotation Zamabrano Lilly Marshall Marquis ????? is way iffier.
  18. From what Im heraing, the 3 suiters are the Cubs, Dodgers and Braves. They would prefer not trade him within the division, and will overcharge the Dodgers, and the Braves dont want to give up their top prospects. This leaves us. Im confident that Uncle Jimmy can make something happen, and end up giving up less than we thought. I wouldnt be shocked if Marshall, Pie, and Cedeno/Theriot/Fontenot got it done.
  19. At least you didnt spend the big bucks on the authentic McGhee jersey.
  20. I had completely forgotten about that little experiment, kind of like I will have about the Shingo experiment this time next year.
  21. Nothing all that special, but its kind of like the first snow fall of the season. Its usually a light one, and it doesnt even stick, but still, its kind of cool.
  22. If we did get Anderson, it would be just like the Burnitz and Jacque Jones signings, when Hendry wasnt able to get anyting else during the offseason, but didnt want to come out empty handed.
  23. Kroeger? Hes a career .791 ops in the minors, although hes hovered more around .900 the past few years. Also, hes been 15-20 HR guy, so what would all of this translate to in the majors? Maybe a solid 4th outfielder, but certainly not what were looking for. Sure, we could give him a chance, but hed likely be Matt Murton v2.0
