  1. The Mets arent a re building type team. If they were going to trade any of their big name players, they would want a major league ready, front of the rotation type pitcher. Maybe if we were to build something around Ted Lilly, wed have a start. They're not going to give up anything for someone like Rich Hill or Sean Marshall who have yet to prove tht they can be a full time starter.
  2. If we couldnt get an upgrade for the outfield, like a Dunn or a Bradley, Id be all about giving him one more shot. I like Reed Johnson a lot, but I dont know if hes full time material, and Pie hasnt done anything to show that hes ready for the big show.
  3. That would be great. Still, I was reading an article, not sure how old it was where Cuban says that this is a bad time to buy or sell a team. Maybe he was just trying to drive the price down, but I wouldnt bet on him as our owner. Zell might even hang on to it for a while. Maybe hes realised what he has and will keep it and bring it to glory.
  4. Its one of those things that we'll just have to find out. First and foremost, hey'll have to get him more comfortable with left handed pitching, and find out what he can do.
  5. I always thought if Theriot as a .300 type hitter. He just needs to be a little smarter on the basepaths. he should have a decent career ahead of him.
  6. Someone could very well sign Bako. Hes a serviceable backup. As for C-Patt, he'll get a minor league deal and be lucky to get that.
  7. The thing is, we should go after anything we dont need. If we could get CC that would be great. If not, re sign Dempster. Adam Dunn would be a great addition to the lineup, but where in the field to put him? RF, and have Fuku and Reed Johnson platoon in CF? Spend the Spring trying to teach Fontenot how to handle LHP. If so, he could have 2B full time, and give DeRo RF, or let him be a super sub if we were to sign Dunn. If we could get Renteria or Furcal, sweet, otherwise, Im happy with Theriot. The one thing Id really like would be a solid lefty out of the pen. Joe Beimal is a name that comes to mind. Now that Kuo or whatever is coming into his own, I cant see the Dodgers going out of their way to resign him. All this being said, as previously stated by Mr. Miles, I really dont see the 2009 Cubs looking much different than the 2008 Cubs 1B Lee 2B Fontenot/DeRo SS Theriot/Furcal/Renteria 3B Ramirez OF Soriano OF Fuku OF Johnson/Dunn? C Soto Bench Johnson Bench Pie Bench Blanco Bench Hoffpauir Bench Fontenot/DeRo Bench Cedeno/other crappy backup SS SP Z SP Harden SP Demp/CC SP Lilly SP Marshall/Hill RP Marmol RP Wood RP Shark RP Gaudin RP Wuertz RP Beimal/Cotts/Lefty
  8. I thought Id be for the Phillies, but I find myself not caring at all, and more interested in what the Cubs do in the off season than what 4 teams I could care less about do the next few weeks.
  9. I heard it stirred up a lot of controversy when he replaced 8 year old Willie Bernstein with 29 year old former major leaguer Corey Patterson. Neifi Perez tried out as well, but lost his starting job to Lewis Meyers, an asthmatic, mildly autistic 7 year old.
  10. Everyone knows Cheech & Chong are funny...but can you imagine how funny they'd be if they didn't smoke pot? Q. What did one Phish fan say to the other after they ran out of pot? A. Damn, this music really sucks.
  11. Im sure theyd come to a mutual agreement to let him go back to japan with a buy out before it came down to that.
  12. What about Renteria? Hes not likely to be retained by the Tigers. I know '08 wasnt his year, but netween '02-'07 he OPSd well over .800. Hes not the answer, but he could be worth taking out a flyer.
  13. I heard about this a while ago. It wasnt a practical joke, and it wasnt just 1 guy. it was a bunch of them who were just reallyfrusterated with themselves.
  14. I suppose we could also go get us a new Jeromy Burtnitz and Todd Hollandsworth and repeat the joy that was 2005-2006 If we were to go after a speedster, Id much rather have Fred Lewis.
  15. Nobody misses any games. Lee returns to his former glory. Soriano has another 40/40 season Fukudome becomes what he was supposed to be. has a .575 OBP. Soto wins MVP. OPS 1.050 Cubs win 103 games and the World Series. Everybody is happy. Yay.
  16. I know you live in the LA area, and I was curious. I dont know if the Angels and Dodgers have the kind of rivalry as the Cubs/Sox or Yanks/Mets, but if so, hows that going? On one hand, you have the Angels who dominated their division, not to mention league all year. They went bye bye after 4 games. Then, theres the Dodgers who didnt make their presence felt until the last month or so of the season, and passed up early season juggernaughts the D Backs, and then made short work of the supposed undisputed best team in the NL. Angels fans have to be ducking for cover every time the see a Dodgers fan walk by.
  17. Not only do they have Adrian Gonzalez, as you mention, but they also have one hell of a 1B prospect named Kyle Blanks (.325/.404/.514 at AA as a 21 year old). Therefore, I don't see it happening. A third team would absolutely need to be worked in, and at that point there's really no point for SD to be involved. Best chance is Lee to SF, OAK or possibly the Angels if they aren't content with Kendry Morales at 1B. I would definitely pursue Lee and others for Matt Cain if at all possible. Annaheim is an interesting possibility. They have plenty of talent, but a lot of it is over the hill. I doubt theyd be willing to move one of their top pitchers, and guys like Rivera and Anderson are over the hill. Id take Vlad, but I cant see them moving him. Hendry has had an eye out for Chone Figgins for a while, but hes never interested me much. As for Matt Cain, we can forget about him. The Giants have deemed him untouchable, as they should. Granted, if The Brewers offered them Fielder and Hardy, it would be hard for them to ignore it, but we dont have anything close to offer, considering we dont have a Gamel and an Escobar waiting to take their place.
  18. Would have been nice though not going to lie We never really had him. We had a deal in place with the Reds that we would drsft him and trade him to them. If it hadnt been for the deal, we probably never would have grabbed him to begin with. Besides, we didnt need him, we had Jacque Jones and Felix Pie, and if they fell through, Tyler Colvin was just around the corner, so how could we possibly go wrong? Oh no I know we didn't just am say it would have nice to have him ha The thing about our GM is that hes very good about going out and getting his guy when he has his sights on him, but I doubt we'll ever see him strike gold with a Josh Hamilton or Carlos Quentin, because hes only interested in the high price tag guys and doesnt seem to keep an eye out for potential, at least thats my take on it. I know that Hamilton and Quentin didnt just come out of nowhere, and were both former top prospects with their former organizations, but Hendry would rather throw big money at a player coming off a big season than take a chance on a one time prospect.

  20. Please Rich, just give us a full, healthy season.
  21. Because Hamilton is injury prone and Zambrano is an ace caliber pitcher, which they sorely need.
  22. Would he accept a trade to Baltimore? We do know he doesn't like fans that boo. Do they boo in Baltimore? We also know that Baltimore likes him as they nearly traded for him before we stepped in and stole him away. The Cubs didn't steal him away. The owner wouldn't give him an extension so the deal fell through. Hendry was there to get sloppy seconds. It turned out to be a good trade for the Cubs but it wasn't exactly a steal. Considering the way Hee Seops career went, and how much Derrek Lee did for the Cubs the past 4 years, yeah, it was almost as much of a steel as the Ramirez trade. Here's a tip: Read the post before responding to it. Lee wasn't stolen from Baltimore. The deal between the Marlins and the Orioles was dead before Hendry made his move. Lee wasn't stolen even if it was a good deal for the Cubs. Well it was a steel in the figuritive sense, just not the literal.

  24. They have a huge hole at 1B and still have a bit of a veteran fetish. I think they'd be interested in Lee, but what they'd be willing to trade in order to acquire him is another matter altogether. Aside from Fred Lewis, according to the Giants website, they might consider moving Brian Wilson for a good bat. Problem is, I dont trust Biran Wilson. He seems like a Huston Street type 1 year wonder to me, and his stats werent all that good to begin with. a 4+ ERA for a closer is far less than impressive. I could also see Sabean trying to unload Barry Zito and a big chunk of his contract off on us and Jim Hendry taking him up on the offer.
