  1. He can still play first base, but for purely comical purposes.
  2. 2 guys Sox fans will be glad to see go, and I gurantee that 2 of the players they get from the Braves become superstars.
  3. If Bonds and Clemens dont make it in, the Hall may as well not even exist, at least to anyone petaining to the late 80's-early 00's, except for Maddux.
  4. Theres always somebody goofy on the ballot, like a Walt Weiss or Terry Steinbach. Agreed with Ricky, but Dawson could have a shot this year.
  5. DeJesus would be a good 2 hitter, perhaps a 6 or 7, but hes not the kind of hitter thats going to be a huge difference to us. If he just costs us Marquis plus a decent prospect, sure go ahead, but its not something thats going to get me psyched.
  6. Im just curious as to who the mystery team is. Im assuming its a perenial non contender. Marlins: they're always open to moving any player for the right prospect package Royals: could Greinke, and maybe Teahen be involved somehow? Rays: they have young talent to spare Seattle: they need help any way they can get it. Minnesotta: they're trying to re stock. Delmon Young would likely be involved. Toronto? Baltimore? Washington? Then again, it could be a last ditch attempt to pry Tommy Hanson away from the Braves.
  7. I guess loyalty to the only franchise he's ever played for doesn't count for anything? The O's, long term, probably are better off trading Roberts now but they still have to field a team and they still have to sell tickets. There asking price is high because Roberts is a very popular player and O's have aren't far enough removed from the glory days of Cal Ripken to embrace rebuilding. They should be but they aren't. Loyalty schmoyalty, that franchise is a complete disastor, and have shown no signs of turning things around. If you have the chance, you should want to go to a contender, unless of course, you enjoy that extra month off.
  8. We dont need a short stop, but if Hanley Ramiez were to fall into our lap, would Lou say no? Im just saying, when you have a shot at one of the top 5 starters in the game, you can make an exception. I know that his top priority is a LH bat, but theres really none out there that anyones absoltely in love with.
  9. The Cubs WILL aquire Brian Roberts by spring training.
  10. So from an insiders perspective, what are the chances that we aquire a decent lefty? Depends what you mean by decent. Those Teahen reports were greatly exaggerated, as were those regarding Furcal. The still like Ibanez, but right now, his price is probably too high. Not being a smart alec, I always say the chances are 50-50. Either they will or they won't. They look at a lot of things that never make the media. The Ceda-for-Gregg trade was one such thing. There aren't a whole lot of good left-handed hitters out there who fit the Cubs' needs and budget. I still say Abreu is the best fit. Problem is, hes 36 and reportedly wants a 4 year deal.
  11. So from an insiders perspective, what are the chances that we aquire a decent lefty?
  12. Its funny how everyone assumes that a Theriot/Fontenot platoon would be the case. All Im saying is that Theriot has more trade value than Cedeno.
  13. The Gregg trade may not have been popular, or even smart, but we all know it was a money saving trade to let Wood go. This trade would be pure lunacy.
  14. Only if they want the fire Jim Hendry bandwagon to fill back up to max capacity. Cedeno is the most Id give up for Teahen, and thats a stretch. Note to Jim Hendry: when trying to break a 100 year drought, and build on a championship caliber team, taking the scraps from one of the worst teams in the history of the game is not the way to go. If we absolutely couldnt get ahold of another RF, Id offer them Rich Hill, if they dont bite, walk away, and wed be better off with what we have.
  15. You deserve a kick in the nuts. I've done a lot over the years to deserve a boot to the pills, it would be a shame if this is what finally gets me That is a bit odd though. Corgans one of those guys people just know, even if they're not a fan. Ive never been an NSync fan, but I know who Justin Timberlake is.
  16. In Corgans defense, Vedder did replace the entire Cubs infields gloves with bagels in game 2.
  17. Well I blame Corgan for Zwan.
  18. Theres definitely a bit of Owen Wilson in there,
  19. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Ken-Griffey-Jr-goes-to-Washington-makes-us-all?urn=mlb,123207 Looks like he'll be doing a lot of overseas traveling and what not. So what does this mean for his playing career?
  20. Im kind of baffled as to why Marsuc Mateo was added. He looks OK enough I guess, but why him and not Veal? http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Marcos%
  21. I think hes in, but not a first balloter, especially if Smoltz and/or Glavine retire this year as well.
  22. So Veal can be taken as a Rule 5 then? Theres a pretty good chance he will. Hes a lefty, and was a pretty big prospect a few years back. Hes essentially a spring training invitee to any team interested, and if it doesnt work, back to Tennessee he goes. Never even heard of Marcus Mateo.
  23. Personally, I dont think its to late for Kosuke, as long as he can work the Fukucopter out of his game. If we can get a worthwhile lefty to play RF, then by all means, go for it, but if not, Id just assume not go trading for guys we really dont need, such as anybody on the Kansas City Royals. Between Fukudome, DeRosa, Johnson, and Pie, surely, we can get 2 solid outfielders.
  24. Hes only 33, and he had some very good years before he started getting injured. Hes putting up some nice numbers in the VWL, and I wonder if hed be willing to take a minor league deal with an invite. I know he "hits from the wrong side of the plate", but he could be worth it if he comes that cheap.
