  1. Its time to make Marmol the closer. Even when Gregg goes 1-2-3 he looks shaky at best, aside from the other day when he had the bowels of the Padres lineup. Hes just not good enough. And Im sick of the we have him warmed up, and if we sit him now his knee will stiffen up excuse.
  2. Always seems to happen when you bring the closer into a non save situation. Now here comes Heilman to do what Heilman does, in other words, this probably wont end well.
  3. If Font stays awful I wonder if theres any chance wed go for Durham.
  4. Reed Johnson to Phillies for Jack Taschner. Reed Johnson is made somewhat obsolete with the aquisition of Ryan Freel. The Phillies have 3 leftys in the pen in Taschner, Eyre, and JA Happ. Meanwhile, the closest thing to a 4th outfielder they have is the less than mobile Matt Stairs. This way, we can DFA Cotts, keep Marshall in the rotation and move Wells to the pen and get rid of Patton or at least trade for his rights and call up Jake Fox. If Fox plays a solid 3rd, great. If not, between him, Font, Freel, and Scales we have it held down until we figure out if Ramirez will be back by July/August or if we need to trade for something else.
  5. Oswalt has been nowhere steller this season. While the Astros hitters have been hot as of late, having a pitcher they know little about may work to our advantage.
  6. Maybe without as much money, Hendry will be less inclined to make pointless signings like Miles and Gathright and put some trust in the farm system. Just invite guys like German or Cintron to spring training on minor league deals, meanwhile see what the farm is worth. As we founf out this past off season, there will be utility guys and backups available until the last minute, even later, so theres no reason to jump all over Aaron Miles like hes some kind of prize. Give guys like Scales or Doug Deeds a chance.
  7. Awesome. Hopefully he can at least play decent at 3b. If ever a job oportunity was available to someone...
  8. Nope they are startin Wells tomorrow, and skipping Marshall altogether so Lou can finally get him in the pen. Harden is pitching Sunday. Guess Lou finally got his wish. Hooray for skipping the guy whos been really good this year, for a kid making his 2nd career start just so we can have a loogy worth a damn. Seriously? That's the decision? Unbelievable. Because clearly its the logical decision over aquiring a semi competant lefty reliever.
  9. It all depends which way the winds blowing.
  10. Part of it is that he's 26, but also there's no position to put him at. He'd have to produce like crazy on offense (which he might, but it's no sure thing) to make up for his defense. If we could find a way to trade DLee (which we can't) the option would arise to platoon Fox at 1B with Hoff, but that's not open right now. From what I hear, Carlos Delgado is injured and could miss an extended priod of time. Like Lee would ever want to go to New York. Fox is in the same position as Hoffpauir was last year. Everything he does is something that Hoffpauir already does and so he's stuck. If an injury happens that DL's Soriano, Bradley, or Lee, than Fox will likely be up pretty quickly. Otherwise, he'll likely be waiting until September. Lee is injured but he refuses to go to the DL.

  12. Well that guy does speak for all of us, so good conclusion. Just like the Cub fans Hummingbird is talking about represents all Cub fans.
  13. Cloudy with a strong chance of Jake Bombs.
  14. Sounds liek they may really be entertaining this idea, depending on how Wells does in his next 2 starts. Its too bad that Marshall has to get demoted to the pen because our current loogy sucks, but thats just they way it goes I guess.
  15. Id say Hanley. Power hittng corner infielders arent tough to come by, but when you get a short stop that can hit like that, and you can bat him anywhere in the order, thats your guy.
  16. We did this in '07 with Soto. We should probably be trying to ride out Fox's hot streak. Its a 30 game hot streak. If he was 23 or 24 year old theyd be doing all they could to get him up. For some reason since hes 2 or 3 years older than your average prospect, he couldnt possibly be legit. A slump for him has been 2 games without a home run. His numbers are better than the ones that had us clammoring for Micah Hoffpauir last year.
  17. To the best of my knowledge, he'll be suspended in the next Cubs game - whenever that is. If they play today, it'll be this game. If they don't play until tomorrow, he'll be suspended for that one. But if they start the game, and it doesnt make it past the 5th, then is he out for the next game or when they re play this one?
  18. Jake Fox .420/.500/.955/1.455 15HR Mat Gamel .336/.428/.647/1.075 8HR Im just saying, we have interleague games coming up too. Now while I hate to mercilously beat a dead horse: Ryan Howard: 61 Games .371/467/.690/1.157 16HR Ryan Braun: 34 Games .342/.418/.701/1.119 10HR Prince Fielder: 103 Games .297/.395/.524/.919 28 HR These are the lines from the final partial minor league season of some of the top young sluggers in baseball today. Fox has them well eclipsed. When the ASB comes around, if Jakes numbers look anything like they do now, I really hope hes been called up or traded.
  19. You mean Rico Brogna? He had plenty of time to show what he could do. The Mets gave him over 500 plate appearances when he was 25. The Phillies had him starting everyday for three years. And this was all after posting fairly mediocre minor league numbers. What does this have to do with Pico? In all seriousness, I feel that Brad Snyder and Jake Fox are 2 other guys who could make it. Even if they were DHs and put up Jack Cust/Rob Deer numbers, theyd be better off than rotting away in the minors. Id pu DuBois with those 2, but hes been given chances in the big leagues and failed to produce.
  20. Blalock is much better than Cruz, Byrd or Murphy and Andruw is still a question mark as to how well he'll produce all season. I could see them trading Blalock for pitching (and it's probably a good idea), but I don't think they'll be begging us to take him. I would think they'd insist on Marshall - at least for a while. We could probably get them to take Heilman instead. Also, Jake Fox could really thrive in Arlington. those 2 plus a prospect or 2 could do the trick. I doubt they'd want a decent 30 year old reliever. A Marshall/Fox combo along with a mid level pitcher might interest them, but I don't see them having any interest in Heilman. Marshall would be difficult to part with for a rent a player, and one we might not need past August at that.
  21. My guess is that they're hoping that Gamel can do a respectable job at 3rd and they can move Hall for pitching. They might want to bring up Escobar, because Hall and Hardy together could net them something decent.
