Maybe its the fault of the guy making the lineups. Your 3-4 hitters really shouldnt have the lowest averages and close to the lowest OPSs in the lineup. I dont know how many other teams have number a 3 hitter with an OPS of .730, but if there are, I doubt they're in contention.

A few random moves today: The Phillies aquired former Royals perenial pity all star Mike Sweeney from the Mariners The Pirates got bored and claimed Korean racial barrier pioneer Chan Ho park from the Yankees and Chris Resop from the Braves.

You're correct, but sometimes you gotta stand pat. Good young ML-ready SS and C talent is insanely hard to come by. Which is why we could stock up the farm, agreed, but I don't think anyone would be wililng to deplete the farm for those guys. And I don't think there's anyone who has enough talent to do it. Or, if they did, you'd essentially be selling them for lottery tickets. Oh I'd be extremely pissed off if either was dealt, it's just a fun thought. Between the two of them I'd bet you could land 4 or 5 top 75 prospects. Completely agreed. Or we could use them to build a team around.

Yeah, they should get rid of all of them. Not a one of them is useful at all. Not a single one. None. There plenty useful, just not when to comes to winning baseball games.

Interesting. So this must mean that somebodies on the way out, Fontenot, Baker, or Nady unles theyve found a taker for Fukudome. Personally, I dont see why Baker wouldnt be the other half of a platoon and Barney as backup SS.

Kind of like Rich Harden in the fact that he'll K a lot of guys, but he'll also walk a lot of guys, and the end result is a high pitch count and a fairly short outing. granted the Brewers have a very aggresive lineup, but I like what I see so far.

Its always fun to watch the punchless wonders make a really bad pitcher look really good. I really hope Ricketts goes on an epic cleaning spree this winter.

The way I see it, the Cubs only have 4 minor flaws: offense, defense, starting pitching, and middle relief. We can plug all those holes for relatively cheap, right?

Meh, losing to good teams is less embarassing than losing to bad teams, and we could use a top 5 pick in next years draft. I have a feeling we could be seeing a lot of top 10ers in the next few years.. -

Carpenter is nearing 25 now, so Im thinking that hes the guy who should be sent to Iowa to take over one of the vacant rotation spots before he becomes one of our old guys. -
Good thing for us that Castro is too young to demand a trade.

I guess at this point in the season, Id rather have a bunch of AAAers who have no business pitching in the majors than overpaying for a bunch of vets who have no business pitching in the majors, and lets face if Hendry doesnt offer run of the mill middle relievers market value, he prefers the multi year/multi million dollar approach. well yeah that was kind of my point. it's not like the cubs have a bunch of guys who are good but slumping - these guys are just bad. it's pretty clear that the organization misjudged how lousy their in-house options were... well that or maybe they just didn't care or had maxed out salary before the year. Guz going down really threw things off. Had Guz been around, hed be the 8th inning guy and Marmol 9th. Marshall would hsve been a great 7th inning guy. We all knew Grabow was well overpaid, but didnt expect him to be quite so bad when he was active. So if we had all 4 of those guys going, we could have sprinkled 3 home growns in the mix. Even Caridad could have been usefull inthe middle somewhere, but was forced into a set up role he had no business in. I guess the worst thing about the situation is that it forced their hand to backtrack Andrew Cashners progress.

I remember Dodger fans being pretty excited about him around the time of our playoff series against them 2 years ago. It wasn't as much "He's the next Chase Utley" as much as it was "here is another reason why the future is bright with our club, he should be our starter for the next 10 years". If DeWitt can grow to be similar to a Todd Walker type player with slightly better speed and glove than he is a very solid player at 2B. I'd be all for that. I loved Todd when he was here. I liked Todd, never loved. He was a super sub, and if thats DeWitts ceiling, we still need us a 2 bagger. As for Walker, I was always a bit surprised that after being let go by the Padres, and the A's after a short time he never caught on anywhere else. I remember hearing at one point that he was kind of a negative guy in the clubhouse, so that could have contributed to it.

With the Orioles, D Backs, Royals, Indians, Pirates, Mariners, and newly deconstructed Astros ahead of us, it will be tough, but I think that 6th ot 7th should be no problem. were in some bad, bad company. Two games puts us in 5th place. Piece o'cake !! No way. Randy Wolf, Manny Parra, Chris Narveson and Dave Bush would like to disagree with that. Yeah, they suck, but when up against: Dempster, whose a #3 starter, as your default "ace", then Wells and Gorzalanny who would probably be solid #4 guys on a decent team as 2-3 and then theres Diamond and Coleman who have never thrown a pitch in the big leagues, I think Id take my chances with the Brewers rotation, not that Id want either.
