  1. COACHES: Frank Castillo Jason Dubois Gian Guzman Rick Tronerud I was wondering what The Creature was up to.
  2. As a team, they drew 12 walks yesterday. Is that normal in this league? one would assume that is not normal for any league. many young latin american players are fairly raw, meaning that pitchers lack command but hitters lack patience. it's been nice watching our big-bonus guys from latin america performing well so far. i miss carlos henry, who made an error a game after signing a decent-sized bonus. whatever happened to that catcher/3b (contreras) we signed for 750k? Was Canderlerio a big bonus guy or did he come out of nowhere?
  3. After he was fired, the speculation was that the owner basically controlled the decisionmaking. Still makes it hard to justify the Damon and Beltran trades though. Beltran trade made sense. Astros got a few great months out of him, than he signed on with the Mets at a price that the Royals never could have come close to. Part of the reason why its tough to judge a small market GM. Unless you pumping out a bunch of stud prospects as the Royals are doing now, its not east to put a competitve team together. Who knows how a guy like him or Beane would do with significantly more money at their disposal than they have had in the past.
  4. I highly doubt that anyones gotten a look at Candelario, but does anyone know if he has the potential for power? Obviously, if he makes the bigs, it will be at least 4-5 years down the road, and that's if Vitters or Baez( whose also likely at least 4-5 years away) don't end up the 3B of the future.
  5. Dot get me wrong, Im still all about the fecal league, but when were playing the Brewers, Im still rooting for the W.
  6. Montanez 3-4 with a 2B and HR. We still lose though.
  7. And 17 of those games are vs. the Yankees, Brewers, White Sox, and World Champion Giants.
  8. This is the 2011 Cubs. No game is ever in the bag.
  9. Hes also a switch hitter, adding to the intrigue.
  10. There was some random [expletive] in that game. Warren Moon I remember, I forget who all else. And when I got it on Genesis, since they couldn't get Shaq like the arcade version, they had I believe it was Stanley Roberts with Shaqs stats However, to this day, I don't think anything quite beats an old fashioned slam dunk Double Dribble style.
  11. This. Buffalo Joes in Evanston. My vote goes to Mango Habanero if I have to go to BWW. As far as quality goes, Buff Joes is my fav, but I love BWWs variety.
  12. You really think Brewer fans can afford Wrigley ticket prices? Pretty sure they can afford the $5 that the Cubs fans are selling their tickets for. There are Brewer fans? When they're winning.
  13. A few more possiblities Rebel Ridling Ryan Searle Chris Carpenter Rafael Dolis Matt Cerda Marwin Gonzalez I forgot about Dolis. Somewhere not too far down then road, him, Belivieu, Guzman, Marshall, Marmol, and maybe Carpenter could form a devastating bullpen. Also, I'm not quite ready to write off Jay Jackson just yet. I also forgot Kurcz and Rhee.
  14. In no particular order, these are the guys that seem to me like they will at least be decent major leaguers someday... Brett Jackson Josh Vitters Matt Szczur Trey McNutt DJ LeMaheiu Ryan Flaherty Jae-Hoon Ha Jeffrey Beliveau These guys could be major leaguers, but have more to show before truly receiving that grade... Justin Bour Austin Kirk Dallas Beeler Nick Struck Robert Whitenack Micah Gibbs Kevin Rhoderick Wellington Castillo Steve Clevenger And then there's a bunch with the potential, but are too far away... Evan Crawford Junior Lake Kyung Min-Na Arismendy Alcantara Ben Wells Reggie Golden Austin Reed Hayden Simpson ...and many more. It's a deep system right now. But it is sorely lacking sure things and studs. Who am I leaving out or over/under rating? I'm still intrigued by Nelson Perez. Also, looking down the road, Zack Rosscup, Grahem Hicks, Rubi Silva, Juan Serrano, and Frank Batista all seem to have potential. Then there's Rebel Ridling and Matt Spencer who I can't decide if theyre legit slightly older prospects or the next generation of Micah Hoffpauir and Jake Fox.
  15. The shortstop you speak of is likely Marwin Gonzalez. I could be wrong, but he seems like he'd end up as one of those defensive specialist shortstops that could either be in the bigs or minors depending on the team he's on and it's needs.
  16. You really think Brewer fans can afford Wrigley ticket prices?
  17. Looks like Sorianos rehabbing in Iowa today.
  18. I have no doubt someone will throw $10 mil at him, I meant is it worth it to us. IMO the money would be better spent elsewhere. Probably. I'd have little problem with a combo of Baker/DeWitt over there as a stopgap instead of likely overpaying for Aramis. In a perfect world, Baker/DeWitt is a good enough platoon and then Vitters is ready mid 2012 or 2013. Baker has terrorized lefties and DeWitt has been very solid in a small sample size. Really, it all depends on the offseason plans. If they don't plan to spend and decide to build from within, it really wont matter whose on 3rd and what's on 2nd.
  19. If he can keep up the power, he may well make the top 100 next year. As I recall, due to some loophole in his contract, we need to put him on the 40 man next year or risk losing him to Rule 5. If he keeps hitting like he has been, I could see some team plucking him. Its not like you have anything to lose by selecting a Rule 5.
  20. I guess they felt that a guy who cant pitch to major league hitters would be more useful than a guy who cant hit major league pitchers.
  21. Id rather pay Wood 1.5 mil anyday than watch Coleman, Berg, Maine, and Co. suck up the joint at league min.
  22. Simpson and Golden arent exactly putting up much of a fight in that contest. Who was our 3rd rounder again? Micah Gibbs. He seems pretty decent, but doesnt look like hes going to give Szczur a run for his money.
  23. Ben Badler tweets: Could he be the next Castro? This is the first I've heard of him. Then again, I usually just follow A and up. Anyone else I'm missing out on? Carlos Penalver has already gotten some buzz in the DSL too this year. Danny Sanchez and Jeffry Baez appear to be living up to their signing bonuses as well. I saw J Baez in one of the box scores and was thinking to myself did we already sign Javier Baez and get him in the outfield?
  24. Simpson and Golden arent exactly putting up much of a fight in that contest. Who was our 3rd rounder again? Back to Candelerio, was he a guy people were watching before or has he just emerged as a BB machine? Could he be the next big thing? Where did he come from anyway? was he a draftee? Hes in the DSL, but his profile says he was born in New York City.
