  1. I'm of the feast or famine mentality. My preference is to go on a monster tear and climb into contention, but if that's not in the Cards, I'd prefer to just tank, trade expiring contracts for whatever we can get, and score a top 5 pick, which I'm well aware isn't as valuable as an NFL or NBA pick, but still more valuable than a 10-20 pick. None of that 2005/2009 mediocrity nonsense.
  2. Are we not in rebuild mode? If not, then why not? Maybe it signals that everyone is being evaluated for jobs next year. I love Z, and I personally think he is much more than a #4 starter, but if the Cubs could get some value for him they have to do it. We have the 2nd worst record in baseball. There are plenty of holes to fill on this team and unfortunately you have to trade value to get value. And trading Z creates another hole which is why Im in the dont trade Z camp.
  3. You just made be BBR Andy Sisco, and hes apparently pitching for the Yankees AAA team with a 1.88 ERA. Cant believe hes only 28. ETA: Make that WAS. Hes not on their current roster.
  4. Simpson? Oops I forgot to even mention who I was talking about. I meant Jay Jackson. Hes more than struggling.
  5. Anyone know if McNutts due back anytime soon?
  6. Its far better when you imagine it being read with a British accent. I imagined it as being read by Daniel-Day Lewis's character in "There Will be Blood." Everything better when read by John Cleese.
  7. Some people's memory isn't any longer than their whatdoyacallit. How could you forget this little 6 game gem just last season ??? Gm# Date Opponent Score Starter Opp Starter 144 Mon 09/13 @ St. Louis N 5- 1 Samardzija Garcia 145 Tue 09/14 @ St. Louis N 7- 2 Wells Wainright 146 Wed 09/15 @ St. Louis N 7- 3 Zambrano Carpenter 147 Fri 09/17 @ Florida N 2- 0 Dempster Sanabia 148 Sat 09/18 @ Florida N 5- 3 Coleman Sanchez 149 Sun 09/19 @ Florida 13- 3 Samardzija Miller Some (aka darn near all) stopped paying attention in July last year. Was Samardzija a starter last year in Sept? I didn't even know that. Not to mention the fact that we only gave up 1 and 3 runs in those 2 starts. Sure does look like an ugly rotation there.
  8. I mentioned this in another thread a while back, bur I wonder if Z and Soto for Momtero and a few other prospects would work. I mentioned this in another thread a while back, bur I wonder if Z and Soto for Momtero and a few other prospects would work. Not for the Yankees Proof that Hendry isn't as bad as some of you think. Z & Soto for Montero and prospects #-o #-o #-o #-o Interesting how there are 2 negative responses to that proposal, one saying it sucks for the Yankees one saying it sucks for us. I dont see the problem with it. The Yankees get a front of the rotation pitcher with 2 more years under team control which theyve been in desperate need of. They also get a major league ready catcher, and a good one at that with Posada near the end and Russell Martin questionable. We get a top catching prospect and hopefully a few other decent pieces. If were not quite ready to call up Montero immediately, than use Castillo as a bandaid. How far is Montero away from the big leagues? I dont want to trade Z, but if we must, then Monteros the guy to target. He should be ready to replace Geo in the next year or 2 and use Castillo as a bandaid until then.
  9. Hes 21 years old. A lot of players his age are working part time jobs at Starbucks and Abercrombie and Fitch and facing pitchers who will never sniff the pros.
  10. Well the clear choice is not trading him unless your getting close to full salary relief or top prospects. Its not we have better pitching options. If Cashner or McNutt are one day as good as Z, we can chalk them up as huge successes. Trading Z for anytjing less than top value would be an idiotic, knee jerk reaction, but hey, this is the Cubs organization were talking about.
  11. It seems to me that Z went through this exact same thing 2 years ago. In think the words then were if they trade me, than they don't likes me no more. If he does agree to waive it, I assure you he'll only have a small list of teams he'll accept a trade to. The Yankees, Red Sox, White Sox, and Cardinals I think. I wonder if they'd ever consider the Z for Peavy deal that was discussed in 2009. Just media talk, no proper rumors, but I remember hearing about it. As I recall, the logic was that Peavy prefers the NL, most notably the Cubs and Z has a good relationship with Ozzie. Peavys probably a better pitcher than Z, but he's also like Harden in that you have to keep him in a glass case.
  12. I mentioned this in another thread a while back, bur I wonder if Z and Soto for Momtero and a few other prospects would work.
  13. I think there's a lot of downside in playing the waiting game to get a quality SP. Not to mention that those are 4 very inconsistent pitchers, and Marcum and Liriano have plenty of injury history.
  14. Louis N 7- 3 Zambrano Carpenter 147 Fri 09/17 @ Florida N 2- 0 Dempster Sanabia 148 Sat 09/18 @ Florida N 5- 3 Coleman Sanchez 149 Sun 09/19 @ Florida 13- 3 Samardzija Miller I did say seemingly. And in my defense, I'd long since blocked out the fact that there was still a baseball season going on by mid September of last year. Besides, all they were doing at that point was screwing us out of a top 5 draft pick. We could have had Rendon, the bastards.
  15. Solid but not spectacular. Even if you do sign Greinke he's just as inconsistent as Garza. As for Wells, he's a decent enough 5 stater at his current price, but as soon as he's due a pay raise, id just as soon let somebody else give it to him and maybe even hope that someone like Struck, Whitenack, or whoever can step in as the 5 starter. Maybe Jay Jackson can even pull himself back together. Whatever the combination of the guys mentioned, the rotation doesn't strike me as being any better than we have now, unless Cashner and McNutt can become legit mid or even front of the rotation guys.
  16. could this be that mythical 3 game win streak thats seemingly eluded the Cnbs since 2008?
  17. Jay actually ended up giving up 7 ER through 4. I'm not going to flat out give up on him, but if he doest turn things around, I wouldnt go out of the way to protect him from the Rule 5.
  18. Jay Jackson awful again. Through 4 IP, 6ER 9H 6K. Is it safe to say he's no longer a top 10 prospect? And for what it's worth, they're only in the 5th and Tyler Colvins a single away from the cycle.
  19. And have a damn good plan to replace him next year.
  20. We can only hope that by the time Millers ready, Pujols is long gone, be it as a Cub or somewhere else and the Cards are in a desperate rebuilding phase.
  21. Sounds somewhat like Samardzjia. everyone said if he could have control without throwing em straight down the middle, hed be very effective. The same may end up being true for Carpenter.
  22. Does the Rays system ever run out of these guys?
  23. Ahhh, now thats good Marmol! Knowing that the Thursday and Friday pitching matchups would be Greinke vs. Garza and Garcia vs. Davis, if somebody told me on Wednesday that in the next 2 games, one would be a slugfest and one a pitchers duel, Id have believed them. I just would have assumed it would go the other way. Cnbs Win! Cnbs Win! Cnbs Win!
