    The farm system may not have any top talent, but that doesnt make it "broke". What the Cubs have is several players that can be productive everyday players, probably not superstars with the possible exception of Szczur, and its too early to tell there (Cashner, Jackson, Vitters, Flaherty, LeMahieu, Gonzalez, McNutt, Ridling, Whitenack, Struck, Beeler, Belevieu, Dolis, Rhoderick, Castillo, Ha, etc.)If the Cubs can go out and aquire the stars through FA or trades, especially if Castro keeps getting better then they can put together a team that can be competitve for many years.

    Judhing by the way most of the White Sox are playing, if you simply give Konerko the Bonds/Pujols treatment, you have a very good chance to beat them.

    Jonathon Mota aslo made his pitching debut. why? Im not quite sure. I could understand if it was extra innings and theyd torn through the pen, but he was the 4th guy to pitch.

    Also, the one out he got was the opposing pitcher, Carl Pavano. The Twins are just on an insane tear, an thats without Justin Morneu, Jason Kubel, Jim Thome, and minimal production from Joe Mauer.

    I just wish they could have let Aramis bat. If he couldnt get the job done, Soto was up, so they could have just called it then.

    Too bad Baker couldnt make some slight attempt to get the damn bat on the ball when he knew that it could be the last chance.

    I used to have the let's go after ___________________ and hope that Rudy J can get him back on track mindset, but I've since accepted the reality that he can't do anything Gerald Perry, Von Joshua, or any other hitting coach cant.

    It is a tempting thought, depending on the return. The question is, if Castillo fails, is Steve Clevenger enough of a safety net to save us from Koyie Hill? Theres also Luis Flores whose been great in limited PT for AA (37 AB 5 HR .405/.500/.919/1.419) After than that, its a sharp dip to Mike Brenly and a few years before we figure out what could become of Micah Gibbs.

    Kevin Collins Weve had too many of these guys to keep up with, as Im sure most farm system do. Bours still young though,so If he can go Paul Goldschmidt in AA, then maybe we'll be on to something.

    It's not an implication, it's an assumption based on the previous post. I haven't really followed the Cubs closely in several years, so unfortunately I don't know Matt Garza of the Cubs from Joey Garza of the Larry McMurtry novel "Streets of Laredo." Regardless of whether Matt Garza is marginal, sub-marginal, or a budding superstar, I still stand by the basic premise that if you have young players who, regardless of how much raw talent they posess, will never develop into major league performers of any caliber under your system, you are probably better off trading them for the 25th man on your roster than keeping them around. Unless the 25th man you want to trade for has a miserable contract that will tie up half of your budget for several years. In that case you are better off keeping your prospects until they burn out and hiring them to sell programs at Wrigley. I don't understand any of this post. If prospects aren't going to be good trade them for guys who will do something. Sounds like Kenny Williams philosophy that prospects are nothing more than currency.

    Is that really a thing that needs to be done? He's never going to hit worth a lick but if you have a good enough OF he could be a useful 5th OF/defensive replacement/pinch runner. Yeah, it's not to decide if Tony Campana can be the everyday CF on a championship team, it's to help decide if he's going to hit enough to even belong on an MLB roster. IMHO, his ceiling is a guy you bring up in September as a late inning defensive sub or extra pair of legs for when someone like Aramis or Geo get on base in a close game and you need a grind out a run.

    It might be because they don't want to break his back. Meaning, perhaps you can get a full year of quality play by picking spots for Reed to play in and not overusing him to the point where he breaks down by the middle of July and is worthless the rest of the season. Now, I suppose it doesn't matter either way since he's an older veteran on a team not going anywhere, but that could be the thinking. Then again, if he keeps hitting like he has been until around the ASB, he could have some decent trade value.

    Looking at Reeds splits for the year so far, vs. LHP, In 42 AB, his hitting .357/.400/.571 with 1 HR. Vs. RHP, in 36 AB, hes hitting .361/.429/.738 with 3 HR. Why are we starting Tony Campana again? Even Lou and Dusty knew to ride the hot horse until you broke his back.

    This would be a good game to win. Despite his dominance of The Yankees, I dont like our chances with Davis vs. Peavy, although theres always a decent chance that Peavy will pull or strain something early on.

    Yeah, not much of a hit, but still. Country is filled with songs, hits or otherwise, about people killing their spouses. Eminem definitely had his share of hits talking about killing his wife, or ex, or whatever she was. Then again, hip hops different. G&R also had a song called I Used to Love Her But I Had to Kill Her. Dont think it was ever really a hit though.
