  1. Sure, lets pay a guy to hit in the .260s, OPS in the .800s and hit 20-25 HRs to play in Baltimore while we platoon Tony Campana and Lou Montanez. There's always the chance we get a Brett Jackson callup. And, honestly, we're not going anywhere this season. Would be better to shed payroll and nab a few prospects. Soriano can still hit a bit, but that would give us a lot of relief in the next few years. And it would be better to trade him while he still has some value. Again, if we could get good prospects and/or decent salary relief, but if your going to get a handful of fringers and a fraction of his salary, Id rather he just stay where he is. If we want to compete next year, hes a great piece to have. Id prefer juice him for his good years as long as were competing and let him go in the end if he falls off a cliff.
  2. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2011/6/26/2245082/the-turnaround-of-nick-castellanos-and-the-dangers-of-vitteritis I picked this up on Minorleaguball.com. When it comes to the bloggers on that site, I never know whose legit and whose just some guy. The thing about this guy is that hes a Red Sox Fan, so not just a Cubs fan talking about Vitters, so apparently his lack of pitch selection is becoming widely known.
  3. I thought they were looking for someone who could hit lefties though? maybe i'm wrong too lazy to check right now We have one of those for sale too.

  5. MLBTR says that the Red Sox are looking for help in RF. Fukudome anyone?
  6. I think they said on the rundown it hasn't happened since '06. If thats the case, I doubt the Cubs were involved, unless they were on the wrong end of it.
  7. Tweeted from Bruce Miles. He'll join Micah Hoffpauir on Nippon in their never ending battlle against ham. God speed Bobby.
  8. How does a 2012 bullpen of Dolis, Belevieu, Rhoderick, Samardzjia, Carpenter, Marshall, and Marmol sound?
  9. WTF, Jackson looked like he was pulling it back together.
  10. McGehee having a .596 OPS and -0.5 WAR gives me an irrational amount of happiness. Well it does remove one of the irrational rants meat head Cub fans like to use against Hendry. Now if Hamilton could just implode we'd be doing alright. And we need Kenny Lofton to die. And Hak Ju Lee and Chris Archer to never make it past AA. And Josh Hamilton was no more a Cub than Tim Lincecum.
  11. Im pretty sure that if it ever came down to Castro vs. Quade, only 1 can stay, theyd waste no time sending Quade on his way. We just better hope Koyie Hill doesnt develope a beef with Starlin :D
  12. I think the only way that happens if we extend him 3-4 years for like $12-13m per year. Even then I think there has to be someone who will offer him $15m+ a year for the same amount of years. I dont know about that, but I wouldnt be surprised if someone offered him something like 3/28+incentives, if for no other reason the incredibly weak FA market aside from the 2 big 1Bs.
  13. Im really starting to hope theres a way to keep Aramis for next year that doesnt involve $16 million. 8 mil+incentives with a vesting option for 2013 sounds about right judging by his age and injury history.
  14. Isnt Campana in the 2 spot enough humor for 1 afternoon?
  15. Vitters hasnt played since getting plunked on the noggin a few nights ago, but he isnt on the DL either.
  16. Right now, firing Hendry would be nothing more than a punishment and something to appease fans, unless Ricketts has a long term replacement in his sights. He really shouldnt be extended, but theres no reason to fire him at this point, as the moves that need to be made are obvious ones that any GM can take care of, and hopefully, a few deadline trades which is the one thing Hendrys good at. We basically need to sign Fielder or Pujols, and it doesnt matter whose at the helm for it. Then just let his contract expire, and move on to the next guy. Obviously, if we do happen to win it all in 2012 with Hendry at the helm, it would be hard not to extend him, but if that were to happen, Id be OK with the extension, even if it did give him free range to run the team back into the ground for the following 3-5 years.
  17. Tdays lineup for Mike Quades Cubs Kosuke Campana Castro Aram Pena Soriano DeWitt Soto Garza
  18. I think that a lot of people are underestimating the amount of potential suiters for Fielder. While hed be a great addition to any team, he isnt the once in a lifetime free agent that Albert Pujols is, and nowhere have I heard that he wont DH for an AL team, which significantly widens the amount of suiters, adding the likes of Toronto, Baltimore, Detroit, Anaheim, Seattle, and of course the Yankees and Red Sox, and while both teams have their 1B for years to come, I believe both teams DH spot will be open next year. Sure Papis having a big year, but hes like 35 and hes an FA next year. Even if Fielder says he wants to play defense, Im sure that the combination of the right amount of money and Scott Boras will change his mind.
  19. Isnt he pretty much the same guy as Jonathon Mota? Why do they refuse to promote Flaherty?
  20. Great news Joe! The Sox went 3-3 on their bye week.
  21. Great weekend! What better way to show the Fecal League that your for real than take a series from a perenial juggernaught. The Astros better be watching their backs!
  22. In the past, we know that Reed has been able to mash lefties. However, this year, in a limited time, hes mashed righties even more. This year, in 50 AB vs. lefties, he has a line if .360/.396/.540/.936 with 1 HR. Vs. righties, in 40 AB, he has a .350/.413/.725/1.138 with 3 HR. While nobody expectes that in a bigger role, he could sustain those numbers, however, if he can do to lefites what he has throughout his career, and hold his own against righties, could he be an everyday player? Folks are beginning to question if Tyler Colvin will ever be more than a 4th/5th outfielder, or even AAAA player, and Brett Jackson might be a year or so further away than we thought. Would it be worth resigning Reed to a 1-2 year deal? I doubt hed be that expensive, as hes 34 years old, and I cant see anyone going out of their way to price us out. Im not saying the 34 year old career 4th outfielder is a big part of the future, but he could be a nice band-aid for the next year or 2 while we spend the big money on Fielder or Pujols and maybe pitching and wait and see what happens with Colvin, Jackson, and Szczur.
  23. When did Stevens and Caridad get sent to AA? Anyway, we got some pitching in AA from Struck, Rhoderick. Belivieu, and Dolis, although Nelson Perez did take his first loss.
