  1. This would be a huge one to lose. With Halladay, Oswalt, and Hamels on the mound the next 3 games, this could be an easy 4 game sweep and with the Brewers and Yankees coming up, we could be in 1st by the end of the month.
  2. Szczuzuzr 3-3, all singles. Nothing else to speak of on the farm so far this evening.
  3. There was some story about a guy who turned down $1M+ and is now working at Costco changing tires. Moron. Furthermore, I remember hearing that this will be the last year teams will be able to pay overslot for late rounders, so a guy like Staples could turn down a 1.5-2 mil deal as a 14th rounder, and then be drafted in the 2nd or 3rd round in another year and end up with less money.
  4. Its not realistic the think that we'll be swept in every series, even with this team. Whats important is that we keep losing series'. I just hope that this isnt a game that we look back on in September and think damn, we could have lost that one if wed just put in Grabow or Berg in the right situation. What worries me is the way Dempsters pitching. We need to get him back to early season form, because if we have him, Z, and Garza all going strong at the same time, we could be in trouble, especially when guys start coming off the DL and we lose our ringers. Remember, theres no Wild Card in the fecal league, and the Twins and Astros are tough.
  5. Can you do arbitration after declining an option?
  6. Lets bring in Grabow or Berg before this gets out of hand,
  7. Im sure its happened on more than one occasion when a guy turns down a big bonus in a mid-late round, only to never be drafted again. I wonder what kind of effect that has on a guys life. Just sayin.
  8. Fantastic post, thanks. And nick23, thanks for posting Law's thoughts. Good stuff all around. I say let Zimmer and Shoulders have their precious edgeamacation and offer Maples and Dunston more money.
  9. Todays craptastic lineup: Fukudome RF Barney SS DeWitt 2B Pena 1B Aramis 3B Snyder LF Campana CF Hill C Demp P If this lineup doesnt keep the streak alive, I dont know what will. God forbid LeMahieu gets any starts these all important games.
  10. Perrenial contender? 0 playoff appearancs with Miggy, 1 division tiebreaker loss, and a 272-273 overall record with him on the team. They are a team that could easily decide with another DUI that having him on a .500ish team with him isn't getting them over the top and trade him for top prospects and rebuild. Key word. We dont have such a creature. Hes 28 years old and a top 10 player in baseball, maybe better, and the only way that wed be able to get him would be a deal centered around Castro or completely emptying out the farm system, and I dont see either option happening. Cabrera alone has made the Tigers an above .500 team for the past 3 years now. Take him out of their equation, and they're probably on the bottom of the division. Cabrera can't be viewed in the same light as any other elite player. For one thing, he's got an enormous contract, so he's not a bargain. But more importantly, he's viewed by many as a ticking timebomb due to the repeated off-field incidents. Theres 2 reasons why The Cubs probably wont go after him even if he was available.
  11. Nelson Perez is really holding his own since his promotion. .304/.340/.507 with 2 HR in 25 games in AA.
  12. If Woody loves the Cubs so much, he should know that the best thing for the team is if we were to trade him and get some solid prospects in return. We could then resign him for another 1.5 mil next year, and repeat the process.
  13. Since were obviously competing for the Fecal League title this year, shouldnt the game thread poster start the next thread when the Cubs lose instead of win?
  14. Nah. Ramirez has already missed a few games. It's going to be Castro. Bite your tongue. Castros future actually matters. I could care less what happens to the old guys.
  15. Hmm, could the Brew Crew be trying to gain favor with Boras in hopes of getting a discount on Prince Fielder?
  16. If Reed Johnson or Jeff Baker have enough PAs to qualify, it's one of them. Otherwise I'll say Kosuke. Active players. Its a small sample size, but none the less

  18. Sad but true: Of all active Cubs hitters, I have the highest batting avg. (.316) and 2nd highes OPS (.786). Who am I?
  19. So is there anybody in the lower 15 of our picks that could potantially be a sleeper ala McNutt or Beeler?
  20. Wow, I didnt realize that not only did we let a pitcher who was demoted to AAA and brought back up out of necesity throw a gem, but Miguel [expletive] Cairo hit a grand slam. This team takes bad to a whole new level.
  21. I really hope we can sign Maples, and I know we have the money. Gretzky and Dunston would be cool due to the names, but aside from Baez, the portly 1st baseman, and maybe Zych, nobody else seems particularly exciting.
  22. Good job Cubbies. keep your eye on the prize. Dont forget, the Fecal League doesnt have a Wild Card.
  23. We love you to Rammy. Now maybe you can put your money where your mouth is and resign on an incentive laden deal after they decline the 2012 option.
