In additon to Vitters and Sczuzerezr, good games from Bour (2-4, HR), Ha(3-4 2B, BB) Crawford (2-4, BB) and Cerda (2-4, 2B, BB). Logan Warkins even hit his first HR of the season. Juan Serrano got the win, and hes now 4-0 with a 1.54 ERA. How legit of a prospect is he?
Mercifully, I missed this contest, and judging by the 23 post gamethread, I'm not the only one, but I was just looking at the box score, and how/why is Casey Coleman rearing his ugly head again?
Ben Badler tweets: Could he be the next Castro? This is the first I've heard of him. Then again, I usually just follow A and up. Anyone else I'm missing out on?
Pitched 5 innings(thats all the game went) and gave up 0 ER 4 H 0 BB and 6 K. Not bad at all. And with a single, VItters made his way past .280. No Brett Jackson yet again.
[quote name="So uthSideRyan] Pretty sure that was a joke but Simpson signed June 19th. Pawelek actually signed with us during the draft' date=' if memory serves.[/quote'] That's just cause he was short on cash, and had a hankering for some KFC. And how is that any different than his current situation?
WTF Cobs, these are the teams you need to be losing to if you hope to compete. 4.2 innings between Grabow and Lopez and they couldnt give up so much as a run? On the brighter side, good games by Castro and Soto, and Colvins more than half way to the mendoza line. Oh, and Marshalls awesome.
Every since they got a bit lucky with Thomas, theyve gone after every retread they can get their hands on, IE Nomar, Matsui, Giambi, Hermida, Willingham.
Hasnt Coletti pretty much done to the Dodgers what Hendry did to the Cubs, the difference being that the Dodgers traded Milton Bradley for Andre Ethier and had more prospects pan out, which would be more attributed to player developement than Colletti?
However, we cant deny that Billy Beane had a hell of a run in the 1st half of the '00s considering that their team payroll was never much higher than Alfonso Sorianos salary.
They're pretty good at cranking out young pitchers and trading them or letting them walk before the wheels fall off. I wonder who will trade a bunch of prospects for Trevor Cahill a year before his arm falls off.
Where are we seeing that Wood has a NTC? Cot's doesn't list one. I don't think he actually has one, the general spec is that he signed with us for the price he did because this is where he wants to be and they won't trade him without his OK. Yeah, Wood doesn't need a NTC based on his conversations with Ricketts and the deal he signed. From the sound of it, he doesn't want to go anywhere and wants to finish his career with the Cubs. And if he continues to be affordable, I don't see any reason to not keep him around. All this being said, I could understand if he didnt want to go to a fringe contender like the D Backs, but if a legit contender like the Phillies were to show interest, I really cant see him saying no. Its a win win situation as itcould be his chance for a ring, and get us some quality prospects so hed be helping the organization that he loves more than he would be rocking out the 7th or 8th inning for a 5th place team.

That's whay I think too. If we could get like 12 quality guys, that's what really matters. Whatever other late rounders come aboard for cheap is gravy.
However, the revenue they were expecting is well under expectations (especially compared to the situation you're talking about where the Cubs are acquiring players at the deadline). Therefore, that money they thought they'd have may not be there afterall. All I know is that unless theres some drastic change in the next several weeks, theres no reason for Fukudome and Pena to be on this team past the trade deadline. Whether its cash or prospects, you need to move these 2 and get what you can. Penas doing pretty much what was expected and its a 3rd of the way through June and Kosukes hasnt shown signs of his June Sw...decline in production(that was for you Nuts & Gum). This could be the prime time to make a move.
If the Cubs really want to do some selling, and Woods OK with it, the Phillies would be the perfect partner. I know he loves his Cubs, but I really cant imagine him blocking a trade to a World Series, or at least pennant favorite. They definitely need some help in the pen, and dont seem to have much money to spend at the deadline, but may very well be willing to overpay in prospects for an arm like Wood, and we could maybe be able to sell them on Grabow as well if we pay whats left of the salaries, which wont be too much.
