  1. Bogusevic replaced in CF for undisclosed reason. Could that reason have to to with international slot money?
  2. I think I'm ready to get on the bus to Camp Matt Garza's 29 And Even if Not Particulalrly Team Friendly, a 5 Year Extension Plus an Option or Two Is Likely More Valuable than Any Realistic Trade Return That We Could Expect. They said they plan on doing some spending over the next few years, and who knows what will be available by then. May as well start with a guy we know is a front end starter. I know he has his history with injury, but it seems as though pretty much every veteran front end starter does these days.
  3. If Steve Clevenger was, Borbon could be. I know Clevenger was a throw in, but he must have added something to the pot. With this in mind, I wonder if any of our other AAA rank and file would be worth any.
  4. Is that supposed to say something else? Like, "the guy"? "A guy" sounds like a rather mundane description, especially for a description for what somebody might become if he gets his head on straight. I was going to snark that and say yeah he might become just a guy if everything breaks right, but I've been cranky enough. The fact that he quoted "guy" makes it a compliment. Yeah, I assume it's meant to be a compliment, but is what he is saying that if everything goes right he might turn into a replacement player? That's what it sounds like. The term "a guy" is a Twitter thing which is meant to mean something good, though I'm not sure exactly what. I remember Keith Law or someone of that nature saying that Anthony Rizzo has a good chance to become "a guy."
  5. With the insane flurry of moves yesterday, I can't help but think that there's one more guy that we need to get signed...
  6. That's like 2 16 year old CTs Or one 16 year old that hopefully isn't suspended before the ink dries.
  7. well, at least they won't be rained out. Actually that was just rained out too. They'd have to play now, but it's still raining. Just relocate Baez and Johnson. Buy the rest umbrellas.
  8. If the trade deadline is Christmas, today has been all 8 days of Chanukah. Lots of cool but small gifts.
  9. If we were able to get some for Clevenger, surely we can spin a few more of our scraps for a few more.
  10. sullivan said something about likely end of camp and rodriguez I think that was just speculation. Rodriguez might not be anything special, but I much rather keep the hard throwing 26 year old over Guerrier, who's 34 and hasn't been very good for several years.
  11. Hate to give up Torreyes like that, but Theo must have his eye on something big.
  12. Could just plant Stropp or Arietta into the rotation. I wouldn't be surprised if Raley or Rusin are called up for a quick one and done for tonight while they figure it out.
  13. And I don't know why I always thought that Pedro Stropp was an outfielder.
  14. I'm thinking that the international bonus slots were a biggy. My bet is that we really want Gimenez, and time was running out so they somewhat rushed it.
  15. @keithlaw: Orioles acquire Scott Feldman and Tony Clevenger from the Cubs for Jake Arrietta, Pedro Strop, and int'l bonus slots. I posted this in transactions, but due to that last part, it certainly belongs here too.
  16. In other news... @keithlaw: Orioles acquire Scott Feldman and Tony Clevenger from the Cubs for Jake Arrietta, Pedro Strop, and int'l bonus slots.
  17. Wonder if that's at the academy. Actually, yeah, looks like there might be a couple of Cubs logos in the windows. Definitely is. The blue sticker is reflecting and it's most definitely a Cubs sticker. You can see the reflection behind the glass just above an office chair.
  18. Not sure what the penalty is for going over, but as strong as their organization is from top to bottom, they're probably not too worried about it. Even if it costs them a first round pick, they're likely to end up picking in the tail end of it anyway.
  19. I'm still waiting for him to suggest calling up Balaguert or something. You'll find that I've never suggested calling up an actual prospect just for the sake of doing so, especially not a low level. I only do that with AAAA slug monsters at the off chance that they can be at least a serviceable bat off the bench. And I've even sworn off those.
  20. Does Torres check I to our top 20? Where? How about Jimenez if we get him?
  21. Scott Feldman, Luis Valbuena, and Shawn Camp to Oakland for Dan Straily and Jamil Weeks. A's looking for a starting pitcher. Have 0 pop at 2nd base. Valbuena under team control beyond 2013. Camp just a throw in if they want him. Straily exactly the type of pitcher we could use. Young. Lots K's. Not lots BB's. Weeks essentially a reclamation at this point.
  22. i feel like almora has had a few OF assists already. Lord knows where i'd find that stat though. absolute beautiful throw, right on the money on the fly, got him by several steps. vogelbach has these weird idiosyncrasies. he draws a v in the dirt and then covers it with dirt before stepping in the batter's box. also, he draws things in the foul lines on the infield and then wipes them out. he's constantly doing this. wouldn't sign autographs before the game, but i got Rock (who looked like he could barely walk before the game), Candelario (i asked him if it's Hymer or Jamer, and he said Jamer, forgot he was from New York, was expecting an accent), and Almora on my hat. Vogelbach looks really uncomfortable in the field, i didn't understand it until i saw it first hand. it's like he hasn't played baseball his entire life. His lack of agility may actually serve him better in the outfield as weird as that sounds. Hernandez made a fantastic play in the hole and flashed a really nice arm in the second or third. Almora looked very confident in the box, kind of reminds me of Nomar without the nose. Reggie Golden is built like a [expletive] ice box, he's as wide as he is tall. Rosario's breaking stuff looked remedial, but his fastball was low 90's. I had a buddy take his kid to a game a few weeks ago and they asked Vogelbach to sign and he walked away from him. My buddy said he kinda carried himself smugly and seemed like a prick. Are you sure that he was blowing you off and not hustling to the concession stands? I hear those MWL parks run out of beats early and often.
  23. If he stays hot for a week or so, it will come.
