  1. I'm talking a no risk pick up. After Garza's gone, there's going to be a rotation opening. If Villanueva is traded that makes two. I'd at least prefer giving Bosio a chance to work with Jurrjens than cycling through another round of Germanos, Berkens, and whomever else.
  2. I'll assume that the extension talks that may or may not have taken place did not go as well as they'd hoped.
  3. He posted it in the context of a larger piece and did so to address comments by one of the, if not the, most visible baseball writer in America. Why are you annoyed exactly? If you havent noticed yet, Brett has a new post for every new piece of information that is Cubs related. He had to have over 100 posts on the Wrigley Field renovation. It's almost as though he's a member of the social media a rapidly growing Cubs blog.
  4. http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/07/13/obsessive-matt-garza-trade-watch-a-deal-is-reportedly-likely-over-the-all-star-break/ GIVE ME THE FOREHEAD HEROIN. I'd prefer the draft pick.
  5. Money should not be an issue on our end. It should be all about the player return. I could definitely see Theo asking for Bundy, using the TJS as a platform and getting an immediate dial tone.
  6. You can't rule out a St. Louis player until he's dead. And even then nothing would totally shock me. Rumor has it Darryl Kile is training for a comeback
  7. I'm guessing it's the fact that he's the starting pitcher in the Southern League All-Star Game on the 17th. Perhaps after that, we will see a group of promotions. He was pulled after 5 innings and throwing only 50 pitches. I really hope that has something to do with pitching in the All Star game.
  8. As in former NBA mega star Vince Carter? Dunk champion anyways. I think you have to win an NBA title to be a mega star. Patrick Ewing and Karl Malone say hi. But I remember in the late 90s he was on his way to big things. Not sure what happened because I was beginning to tune out the NBA around that time. As far as potentially amazing careers that were derailed, he was up there with Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway. I just hope that D Rose doesn't join their ranks.
  9. As in former NBA mega star Vince Carter?
  10. Which one of these does Jair fall under? 27 year old one time front end starters who it wouldn't hurt to see if our pitching coach can help fix if the cost is next to nothing. Give me an entire filing cabinet full of fliers on those, and if one happens to work out it's a huge win.
  11. My point was that in the next few weeks, we will trade several of the players who have been largely responsible for what success the Cubs have had. But I admit that I misused the term fire sale. But for what it's worth, while I have learned to sidestep the personal comments when debating anything with you, perhaps it's things like this tbat cause those who you have had your little feuds with in the past to become more riled up than necessary.
  12. Oh, hey. A 29 year old AAA OF with an OPS in the .800s. Theo must have read IMBs flier.
  13. I can't find the postseason roster, but of the top 25 in playing time, there are 8 Cardinals currently playing remaining from the 2011 roster that won the world series, with 2 others on the disabled list. It's okay to be wrong. The Cards let guys walk because they have the talent to replace them from within; including a guy who was up until that point te greatest player on earth, and they barely missed a step. The Cubs did it for the sake of tearing it down. It's not about being right or wrong it's about Nuts & Gum being Nuts & Gum and picking a detail; the misuse of the term Fire Sale, and making more of it than need be. Whatever you want to call it, aside from 3-4 guys, everyone on our roster is available. How do I know this? Because the individuals who plan on conducting the sale have openly said it for everyone to hear. What it comes down to is that a lot of the pleasant surprises that have helped us be something resembling decent are likely to be gone by sometime in August.
  14. Of the big league players inherited by Mr. Epstein in October of 2011, 7 remain. Two of them have have been agressively shopped since he took over and at least one will likely be gone by the time we turn the page on our calabdars. If the other one isn't, it won't be due to lack of trying. But what do I know.
  15. Also since Aramis Fan changed his name. Way to go Aramis Fan Fan. How about Cardinals Fan?
  16. excellent. everyone bookmark the link for future use. A. No B. Sure C. Depends on age and how far removed from his year of limited success. And these are pretty much the types of players that GM's tend to take out fliers on when they're available for next to nothing and stock AAA with. Lottery tickets are quite different in that they're young and raw with high potential.
  17. Paniagua's 1st 5 appearances lead me to believe that he could very well be responsible for many a boner.
  18. Hasn't Dayton Moore been in the hot seat since the children of Kansas City were tearing through packs of Donruss in hopes of pulling a Bo Jackson or Kevin Seitzer rookie card?
  19. I'm not understanding the Royals desperation. They're on the fringe of contention, but not exactly in win or die mode. While they have some pitchers who are impending free agents, their core is under control for a while. I can understand them wanting to add some pieces to help them, but not mortgage the future for a top guy. Feldman would have been a better fit for their situation, and while Strop has been great early on, we probably could have gotten a better package.
  20. How many K's does he have? 5 Javy does what Javy wants. When he decides he wants to get on base again, he will.
  21. That's gonna be a hell of a staff SCS is putting together. I'm thinking ?-Smardz-Jackson-Wood-Villanueva/Vizcaino/Cabrera/Arrieta/Hendricks/Baker/scrap heap gem. Ideally, something along the lines of Garza or Price fill the ?.
  22. I don't have a problem getting Porcello and Thompson back, but Garcia seems pretty useless. I wonder if Garza+Gregg+Russell could get us Castellanos. I'd take 2 of those guys as the 2nd and 3rd pieces. I'd have happily taken Garcia for Feldman. Not Garza. As for Porcello and Thompson, he said it all: solid back end starter and solid pitching prospect. Both great things to have around, but not at the expense of our top trade chip. I'd just assume take the draft pick and rack up a few more Maholms, Feldmans, and Bakers.
  23. o, nobody jumped on this, huh? I know, right? I would have though that at least CubsGM, GammonsPocketTweets, or MenInBlue would have gotten to it.
