  1. Probably just trying to see if he can get one of them to up their offer from a bag of balls to a slightly larger bag of balls.
  2. [expletive] it. It's not my money. If he's really that good, we need him more. Pull the rug out from under them HoyerStein! I'm sick using the let Team X spend $Y0,000,000 so we can save up for something that may never exist frame of mind. Let's be Team X.
  3. There seems to be a fair amount of buzz about him on Twitter. He sure is an ugly bugger though.
  4. Pretty much. If this were July 30th, you take the deal. Worst case scenerio, Gregg collapse on himself and we lose out on a fringe prospect. When he was picked up, most of us expected he'd be in Iowa or somebody else's AAA affiliate by now.
  5. Because Parker might be your closer after the trade deadline. Fair. If there's one guy who really has closer stuff its Alberto Cabrera. Who's on the 40 man roster.
  6. just like last year! Except last year he wasn't a free agent at the end of the season with little to no hope of signing long term. And that aside, he would've been traded had he not gotten hurt. Obviously, if he gets hurt again, that would throw a wrench into things. I'm still curious as to what happened with all of the iminant trades 2 winters ago. Between the Tigers, Rangers, and Blue Jays, it seemed as though he'd been traded 3 times a day for 2 months straight.
  7. Very ugly line for Almora's last 10 games .182/.178/.341/.519 0/5 BB/K.
  8. Don't know if this is good or not. Could mean the Cubs are asking too much or that the bidding war is driving the price to high for the Os liking. Good. We have a good 4.5 weeks before the deadline. They can ask for the moon and then some for the next 4.25 of those. If somebody gives it to them, great. If July 29 rolls around and we haven't fleeced anybody, then start fielding those last minute offers. Somebody will bite. Assuming he doesn't get hurt.
  9. Choo would be a great guy to have as a 2 hitter, but we're also going to need something in the form of a 3-4 thumper. If they really want to expedite this thing they need to aggressively pursue Stanton. If we could get him for a package including only 1 of our big 4, the trigger must be pulled. Even if it costs 2 of them, it might be worth it if the Marlins sweeten their end of the pot. You show me a 2-5 of Choo, Stanton, Rizzo, and a refurbished Castro and a rotation of Smardz, ?, Wood, luckier Jackson, Vizcaino or another Feldman/Maholm and we have a serious contender on our hands.
  10. Wow, the White Sox bullpen out epic-failed ours 10 fold in both games of a double header.
  11. Dodgers, Red Sox, and Angels, huh? Yeah, 5/60 sounds about right. Not sure if we're in a position to spend that much on an unproven talent.
  12. It's not that simple. A good chunk of Smardz' value is tied to his having 2 full years under team control. If the D Backs are willing to give up Skaggs for 2-3 months of Garza, then nice work if you can get it.
  13. Glad to see he didn't need shoulder surgery. Surprised that he's only 24. Seems like ages ago when there was some buzz surrounding him. We should probably put him in the pen full time and see what happens.
  14. What if they come back with Skaggs/Bradley and one of the other 3 whoever you prefer? That's pretty tempting to me. I come back and ask for 2 more. Maybe offer to toss them one of our scraps along with him. There's 0.000 reason to trade Smardz, and it's in our best interest to hang on to him. This being said, full leverage is a wonderful thing, so there's no harm in a bit of dialogue.
  15. My $'s on the Bucs. With 3/5 of their starting rotation DL'd he's the perfect guy to fill in, and if/when everyone's back, he's a nice long reliever. The same could be said for the Reds, but for Carlos' sake, I hope not.
  16. D Cubs out to early 6-0 lead. Baez 1-2 2B. Ben Wells with 0/4 BB/K through 2. Other guys playing as well.
  17. So much for any hope of AA for him this year.
  18. Dirks OPS? .673 Schierholtz OPS? .926 There's no need to give up on or "replace" Dirks. But bringing in a guy like Schierholtz whose OPS is currently 250 higher wouldn't be a bad idea if you wanted to win a World Series. It was mentioned in an article linked through Twitter a few days back which was discussing the needs of various contenders and now I can't dig it up. Not sure if it was something legit or the writer's speculation.
  19. I would pay good money to slap you silly. I would have thought that to be worth at least a gif or a meme.
  20. It's all by design to prep him for what's in store.
  21. Except Mark Appel this year. Which is likely because of Mark Appel last year.
  22. That's not the guy we got for Campana is it? If so, very nice.
