  1. I suppose if Wood and Prior skip town, somebodys going to have to hold down the 60 day DL.
  2. Latroy Hawkins and Ramon Martinez have recently ben released by their respective teams. Everythings coming up Dusty.
  3. Am I the only one who thinks that the addition of one of the best defensive outfielders in the game with a pretty damn good bat wouldnt be the end of the world?
  4. what a shame. We could have offered them more than a couple of guys with funny names.
  5. I always thought that if you threw a wig on Marquis, hed look like the chick from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
  6. I stand by my original stance on Theriot. Hes good enough that theres no need to search for a replacement, but if the opportunity for something better comes along via trade, IE Tejada or Renteria to go for it.
  7. Wuertz does the same thing every year. he gets everyone out with his vanishing slider the first couple of months of the season until the hitters figure out he's going to throw said slider every time, and hit it all over the place the remainder of the season.
  8. That website hasn't had news for over a month now. Where did you see this rumor? Made it up? Under the rtoworld pat, theres a little partith random news/rumor tidbits flashing. Clickon any one, and it will take you to the page. Itmy have been one writers seculation, but I couldnt tell. Heres the segment cut and pasted. Former Cubs General Manager and President took the job of President of Baseball Operations with the Orioles and since then, has acquired three Cubs in Scott Moore, Rocky Cherry, and Roberto Novoa. There are also many former Cubs on the team which will probably be retained, especially Corey Patterson. There is a good side of this and definitely a bad side at the moment. The good side is that the Cubs could look to acquire someone like Miguel Tejada for several minor leaguers and major league ready players. I could see a trade looking like this: Miguel Tejada and cash to the Cubs for Sean Gallagher, Jim Henderson, Eric Patterson, and, Ronny Cedeno. That is a rough trade for now because I do not know how the Cubs rate some of their players, but they do not think much of Eric Patterson right now after he was late to several games and practices, and was not very effective at the major league level. But trading for Tejada would move Theriot to second base, DeRosa to right field, and Jones platooning with Pie in center field. I think it helps both teams but who knows if the Cubs want to unload some of their system to acquire Tejada, who has just two more years on his contract. But, he is aging and may be forced to switch positions, so the Cubs might be hesitant. The bad side, if the Cubs cannot reach a deal with Kerry Wood, he might walk and go to Baltimore and be with MacPhail, who drafted and signed him. I think the Cubs and Wood feel the same way about returning next season, but who knows? Also, if the Cubs non-tender Prior, MacPhail could look to add him too. They plan to sign former Iowa Cub pitching coach Rich Kranitz, so this all seems relatively possible because both Prior and Wood worked with Kranitz and one point in the past couple seasons. MacPhail will look to upgrade anyway he can, and he might start with unloading the disgruntled Tejada, who was almost traded to the Cubs in 2005.
  9. Hart isnt going anywhere, but Gallagher is being brought up in the Tejada trade rumors.
  10. This from less than reliable MLB4u.com Orioles send Tejada and cash to the the Cubs for Sean Gallagher, Jim Henderson, Eric Patterson, and Ronny Cedeno. Sure, wed giving up quite a bit, but its definitely worth it. This may be our only chance to land a major impact player this offseason with the ownership situation in limbo, and Jim not likely to be able to land and free agents.
  11. Kind of like the Natspos having the entire 2004 Reds lineup minus Griffey and Dunn.
  12. This is the Cubs we're talking about. They dont believe in "selling high". They only move players too early or too late.
  13. Rumor has it that when he found out that Jeff Conine was traded, he said he wouldnt sign on unless Mike Stanton, David Weathers, and Scott Hatteberg were all given 5 year extensions with complete no trade clauses. Also, Aaron Harang has bee designated for assignemnmet to make room for Mike Remlinger on the roster.
  14. I could understand if we stood to aquire A-Rod or Tejada, then by all mean move him. However, other then that, hes doing just fine. Sure he slumped in the end, and sucked in the playoffs, as did his team mates, but give the guy a chance. He still stands to make next to league minimum the next few years, and hes got a great glove. If Tejada, A-Rod, or Renteria are in the horizons, then Theriot can become a bargaining chip. Otherwise, I dont see the point in looking high and low for a new short stop, when the issues that most need adressing are right field and another starting pitcher, preferable not named Steve Traschle.
  15. The Pirates make 0 Sense to me. Every time they get a potential top player, they go and trade him at his peak. I understand a team wanting to replenish their farm system, but whats the point in doing o if you just get rid of these guys as soon as they get good?
  16. So I guess we can look at them to replace Norris Hopper and Jeff Keppinger with Rondell White and Cliff Floyd.
  17. By all means, go get Ward, but if Trashel is re-signed, Ill find a way to raise enough money to buy the Cubs just to fire Hendry.
  18. Pie, Theriot, Marshall + 2 of Gallagher/Veal/Samardzia.
  19. After what the Cubs did to themselves.
  20. Yup, A Rod knocks one out of the park when it doesnt matter. And some people dont think hed be a good fit for the Cubs.
  21. It looks like the Yankees are about to join the Cubs and Phillies and get smoked by an underdog. I predict that Joe Torre will be cleaning out his office an about an hour or so. And as for The Rocket, if that wasnt the biggest waste of money in history, surely it ranks in the top 3.
  22. I dont know if anyones noticed, but the Cubs are still one of the best teams on paper in the NL, and this group has played together for the first time. A lot of them are in long contracts, and whoever becomes the new owner will surely want to make a splash and add some more big names. Im not worried about the Brewers. They're streaky and the team doesnt have the revenue to to fill the neccessary holes properly. Im quite confident that the Brewers will take care of themselves as Wisconsin teams always do.
  23. Eh, they're also pretty good for information on contracts. But yea they certainly aren't a legitimate source for rumors. Contracts are concrete. Anyone with access to the info can post it. As for rumors, Id trust prosportsdaily over them. They are however good at posting the news as soon as it happens though.
