  1. Hell, give them the keys to the farm system if we can get Bedard, and I suppose if it makes them happy, we'll take Roberts off their hands as well. They can have Pie, Gallagher, Colvin, Veal, Marshall, Theriot whatever. Hill will be tough to part with, but if thats what it takes to land Bedard, so be it.
  2. The White Sox and Dotel are closing in on a 2 year 11 million dollar deal. Once again, Kenny Williams is out to out crazy Jim Hendry. The guys worth 2 yrs 5 mil tops. He had a few productive years a few seasons back, and now hes just another late inning reliever. Seriously Kenny, if its that important to you, you can have Neil Cotts back.
  3. As long as they bring him in with men on base. As soon as you bring him in to start the inning, home run derby.
  4. It seems that the Cubs have a theme of bringing back their old pitchers, and those pitchers have a theme of not being worth a damn. I expect to see Matt Clement back in a Cubs uniform around 2015. Then again, if it keeps Dempster out of the rotation, can it really be that bad?
  5. Or to a much, much lesser extent, Felix Pie, if you change everyone wants him to some teams kind of want him.
  6. Shannon Stewart will make a fine addition to some low level team, but much like Marlon Byrd and Brian Roberts he doesnt fill our immediate need, which JH probably wont realise until June when everyone whose been given a ride in the revolving door of number 5 starters are a combined 1-9..
  7. All Im saying is that with Sean Marshalland possibly Gallagher burning a hole in Hendrys pocket, unless someone like Veal or Samardzia has some miraculous spring training, we could be lookin at Dempster as a 5th starter, so I dont see why they wouldnt give someon like Zambrano, Benson, or Wright at least a look at spring training. Im not saying he deserves a 3 year deal.
  8. Remember, we're talking about an orgnization who isnt ready to give up on 53 year old quasi-prospect Les Walrond.
  9. Can you ever have to many Zambranos? Anyway, Victors having a respectable run in Venezuala with a 3-1 line and a 2.70 era, and could he really do any worse in the rotation than Dempster or 2nd half Marquis? He doesnt really seem to be on anyones radar. DL regulars Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon already have their suiters, and Livan Hernandez doesnt even seem to be on JHs radar. This team, as well as most of the division is starved for pitching, and Victor Z might be an OK risk if hes willing to sign a minor league deal with an invite. Other possibiliies include Kris Benson and Jaret Wright. Sidney Ponson might just be a waste of time even at the AA level.
  10. Funny that none of the NL Central teams seem to realise that the one thing that keeps each of them from dominance is a well rounded pitching staff.
  11. I guess you cant blame a guy for trying.
  12. 1/11/08 Chicago White Sox Signed INF Brad Eldred, INF Royce Huffman, INF Jeff Liefer, INF Michael Rouse, C Paul Phillips, C Ryan Smith, INF/OF Jason Bourgeois, OF Miguel Negron and RHP D.J. Carrasco to Minor League contracts with invitations to Spring Training; Invited INF Chris Getz to Spring Training. Probably heard this.
  13. That scares the crap out of me. If the deal goes through we NEED to sign Hernandez and that still is not the best case senario. That's what I've been trying to say. It's frightening what the back of our rotation might become if Marshall + Gallagher are dealt and no viable replacement is signed. The sad thing is that Pittsburg may end up with the best pitching staff in the division. As for Marquis, the only solution is keep him in the rotation for the first hald, and at the break, DL him with a phantom injury and trade for a rent-a-pitcher if were a contender.
  14. Right. Marshall and Cedeno might be enough to net us Julio Franco, if that. At least he can play short stop.
  15. So Gallagher, Marshall, and Cedeno for Roberts? Thats WAY too much for a guy who we really dont need and isnt much of an upgrade over what we have. Plus hes on "The List". Sure, he says he only smoked it once, but he didnt inhale, or whatever, but still. If Ronny or either Sean turn out to be anything, this will rank up their with the Swisher deal. Id give them Marshall and Cedeno, and thats more generous than JH should be.
  16. Or as Dusty will forever refer to him, the one that got away.
  17. Link I don't know much about either of these guys, but it looks like another good move by Hendry on the surface. I look forward to never hearing either of those names again.
  18. Looking over that roster, the most recognizeable name there is Bobby Crosby. That is not a good looking team by any stretch of the imagination. At least KC is beginning to try to put together a major league caliber team.
  19. According to McPhil via Rotoword, there is zero truth to the rumor that a trade is close, and theres little to no chance that anything will get done before the new year.
  20. Supposedly it's Murton, Gallagher, and Patterson for Roberts. There is some talk that the O's are trying to squeeze another player, possibly Cedeno, into the package. Sounds like the Juan Pierre trade all over again. Too bad Hendry cant nut up and go all out for Bedard.
  21. So I guess he'll officially join Wade Boggs, Fred McGriff, Tino Martinez, Greg Vaughn and Jose Canseco as once great players who chose to spend time with that hopeless, decrepid franchise for no reason other than the pay check and a shorter commute.
  22. If we can nab a solid starter and/or closer, go for it. A quality short stop would have been nice, but that ship has sailed. Otherwise, theres no use making a move just for the sake of making move.
  23. Im surprised that Baltimore didnt jump all over him. They seem to have some strange obsession with our garbage: Sammy Sosa Corey Patterson Freddy Bynum Paul Bako Roberto Novoa John Leicester Latroy Hawkins Rocky Cherry Andy MacPhail Of course we did take Steve Trashel off their hands.
