awesome. is it a warm-up friendly? chelsea is travelling to the u.s. to play the la galaxy and some south korean team in a few weeks, but i decided not to travel to la to see them. :( Good for you. They'll announce at the last minute that a number of players aren't appearing, after which the players you want to see that do appear will do so for 45 minutes at most and will jog around halfheartedly. The Galaxy will tie them 1-1, after which Alexei Lalas will say that it's a sign that MLS sides are as good as teams like Chelsea. To Chelsea's credit they played most of their big guns last summer when they came to Chicago. I was afraid they were going to do exactly as you said. The halfhearted jogging part is pretty close to reality, though there were a few surprising sliding tackles made by Michael Essien. The bottom line was the trip to LA to see them wouldn't be worth the 1,000 or so it would've cost to make the trip. I'm going to Boston and NY instead. :D

i'm not terribly optomistic he'll be catching for the cubs next year, considering he hasn't gotten a sniff of the big leagues this year. considering the debacle that's been the catcher position in '07, you'd think he'd at least have a chance to earn the job. -
from my readings, it seems that some people are down on freddy adu's long term future with team usa and his club career as well. maybe, being "down on him" isn't the right word, but have lower the ridiculous expectations that were put on him early in his career. clearly, being so young still is playing a role, but i'm still trying to learn more about the us team and i don't know if the mainstream soccer media is just being knee jerk about his lackluster mls career. what are your assessments of his future? will he be someone that the usmnt will be built around for 2010, 2014, and 2018?

the overall performance was disappointing but i have to keep telling myself that this is such a young team playing in this tournament. i was very happy with ej's performance. i'm not as down on him as lot of us supporters are, but he showed that he can play a little bit tonight. his finishing leaves much room for improvement but i think he can still contribute to the usmnt. i would love to have seen at least half us stocked roster for this tourney to see how we'd perform. the youngsters are getting it handed to them in the scoreline but are showing us signs to be optomistic.
