  1. I want the right coach and let him determine who the right assistants will be. If Bates is one, great. Otherwise I don't care about keeping people happy right now.
  2. Whoa, great insight there Larry. You had to dig deep for that one?
  3. You're trying to handwave away the things that have gone wrong by grouping them into this vague "everybody has bad stuff happen" misfortunes, but it's not working. Because you're stupidly trying to list them individually to make them sound crazy when every GD team in the game can do the same thing.
  4. yes. I'm pleasantly surprised, similar to after the Marshall trade. But then the rest of the offseason happened and the draft, which negated much of that optimism. Hope this works out better. I'll give Emery benefit of the doubt on the O-Line for one year. Obviously, its got to be addressed in a big way now. I guess I could see that being yhe point of emphasis, with the D getting a few stopgaps. I don't know why you'd give him the benefit of the doubt. It was a blatantly obvious need that didn't just get pushed to the backburner, it was completely ignored. Angelo ended up spending 3 first round picks on OL in his tenure but even with that his overall stance was to ignore it.
  5. Every time I hear about guys with a countable list of concussions I try and remember how many I've had. Definitely had one knock out concussion in football, another in wresting and while snowboarding. I'm going to assume I've had another at some point and go with 4.
  6. It's easy to ignore because it's not true. The Cubs didn't have some crazy calamity befall the team. They put an awful product on the field and got awful results. The things that went wrong was the whole trying to be bad thing that made them worse than they would have been if they tried to be good. It's completely normal for guys like Marlon Byrd and Geovany Soto to simultaneously put up seriously sub-replacement seasons. Please, every team has also rans who fail. Marlon Byrd had a brief decent prime, and he was well past it. Soto was a fat catcher who caught fire for a couple years and has been trending down for years. And those are hardly the things that defined the season. It is at least as normal for guys like that to fail as it is for guys like LaHair to thrive and Samardzija to take such huge steps forward, out of nowhere. The Cubs did not suffer from an outlandish amount of misfortune with the exception of having the misfortune of being led by a front office that saw absolutely zero pressure to field a good team.

  8. YES. Sean Jensen confirming this. YESYES. @seankjensen #Bears are trying to capitalize on a window to interview Mike McCoy, since the Broncos have a first-round bye. he's not related to the Texas raping McCoy is he? We have to assume Tebow would come with him right?
  9. This should be some fun speculation. Sad as it is to say, I'm going to guess Marshall was one of the participants. I think Cutler and Marshall are watched too much for it to be either of them and it not be caught on camera. I'm gonna say it was O-line guys. Marshall was looking extremely frustrated that entire game. I would assume he was involved.
  10. And that's a good thing? vs. Phillips and ownership having their way? Yes, it'd be hard for it to be a bad thing. We knew he was running the show already. The tired talk of the McCaskeys handcuffing people has been meaningless fan babbling.
  11. Lovie worried about offense. He changed things up and emphasized the need for a passing game in recent years. He was just incapable of leading an actual offensive turnaround.
  12. It was the right move, if not timely. But color me scared to death about Emery's first hire.
  13. It would have been cool to see the Bears drive 30 yards on the first drive, call a timeout, have a false start and then punt from the opponents 42. Plus, Hester was bound to get tackled for a safety on a kickoff return eventually.
  14. can we start listing Gretzky's sister on this list soon?
  15. Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter Whoa: Bears have sent out consent forms requesting permission to interview head-coaching candidates.
  16. What? Who the hell is freaking out? Is Tice doing the Hulk Smash?

  18. I think the "doesn't want to pay 2 coaches" line doesn't hold up. The Bears spend, and in the NFL teams pay out contracts to fired employees all the time. Also, most GMs want their own guy in there. But Emery isn't like a lot of GMs. He's not some young up and comer. He's a boy scout. He's not some super aggressive megalomaniac. I don't think he's trying to reinvent the wheel or even leave a huge impression on the game. He just wants to find good football players to put on the team and let the coach coach them. Frankly I'm not even sure he's plugged into the league enough to know who should be the next coach anyways. He was a strength coach at also rans schools for most of his football career and has only been a scout in three organizations for little over a decade. I'm not even sure I want this guy hiring a new coach.
  19. And Pioli gets to keep his job because... ...he doesn't allow candy wrappers to collect in the stairwells
  20. this is exactly what i think It will tell who really is making the call. If Emery really has the authority to make the call, Lovie will be gone. Why would you say that? I think Emery is inclined to keep Lovie around if he can. I think he genuinely respects the job he has done and thinks he can continue working with him. I am going to assume Lovie stays with some turnover at the OC job, again. Maybe if they actually put some effort into finding a suitable offensive line it will work.
  21. Given the fact that very few people care about hockey before the holidays and that teams probably lose a lot of their money by staying in operation early in the season, conversely making their money late in the season, that does make sense.
