  1. Yes because it's inconceivable (!) that Cowher can be a good coach again! Because not wanting him as the HC of the Bears means that we don't think he can be a good coach again. What the hell else could it mean? For the life of me I can't imagine why people are so set against the two of those guys. There's been a dozen worse names thrown into the ring during this search and maybe only a couple better ones.
  2. Other major sports are able to have content on other channels and still maintain their own specialized channels as well. With the sheer amount of soccer leagues, you'd think that soccer would be able to do the same. Isn't NBC Sports taking on a lot of futbol? Also, is there a Fox Sports 1? I thought Fox Sports was essentially what was on all the fox regional networks.
  3. Kate Upton and I have a mutual disagreement about whether or not we should be dating, but there's never been a formal offer either.
  4. It would make more sense for the lesser franchises to get to play Chicago and Detroit more often to sell more tickets. The Blackhawks don't need to play Detroit or STL to sell tickets.
  5. Feel free, but it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to do that.
  6. It was a bad draft, and it was on Emery. He had plenty of time to be ready for the draft and didn't do a good job. But you can't blame him for Tice. That's Lovie's call.
  7. Among the Eagles fans I know (a pretty large group) the #1 complaint about Reid is that all he does is throw the ball. If you go by the old theory that teams often go for polar opposite in coaches (hot head to stoic, DC to OC, former college coach to longtime NFL coach) then Reid to Lovie makes quite a bit of sense. He'd change up their style of defense, which has been underwhelming, and call for a more balanced run/pass system.
  8. We're talking about the 21st ranked prospect in an above average, but far from stacked system. I think it's safe to say none of these guys will be starters.
  9. There's more of an argument to be made for him, and I didn't want to entirely burst the "be a Blackhawks fan" bubble. Although I assume since the guy is in the Blackhawks thread and didn't mention them as an option he's specifically not interested in following them.
  10. He's also not Russian.
  11. Hossa is neither young nor a superstar.
  12. Somebody tweeted last week that they had been informing candidates they were already down to 2, but I assume this is all just rumor and assumptions and Emery's is being straightforward about looking everywhere.
  13. he can just add a 9 to up the sexy factor. Keeps him closer to the feet anyway
  14. I've heard that Toub is a great football mind. Not sure where I heard that, or if it's true, but I like to think it is. Could be, but I'd rather not go from Lovie Smith, to one of his assistants. New blood, thx :) One of the internet theories out there is that all these interviews are to have a baseline to compare Toub to. That would suck. If Toub is the guy then my assumption is the defensive staff stays intact, and Bates would almost certainly stay around, meaning very little new blood on the offensive staff. This organization desperately needs new blood.
  15. I originally included a comment on those shortcomings but didn't want to wake up the echoes of derision.
  16. Do they really change much? People had a pretty good idea of who was what by week 13. But the goal isn't to be absolutely certain who is the best team. The goal is to stage a realistic and entertaining season. 4 weeks of playoffs is a horrible idea for college football. 3 of the last 4 Super Bowl winners were out of the playoffs through 12 games. From Week 13 to Week 17 you'll see at least 3 different teams in the bracket, and a couple more jump around seeding-wise as well. The point is that 12 games isn't remotely definitive in anything, so the idea that a 16 team playoff is pointless dilution rings incredibly hollow to me. The NFL has absolutely nothing to do with college football. NFL talent levels are incredibly even in comparison to CFB. But the point isn't to be as definitive as possible.
  17. Not enough to drop him out of the top 10. He's still a fine prospect in a weak draft, no matter if he's overrated in the media. He plays a relatively worthless position in today's NFL though. There isn't a huge need for run stopping MLB with leadership skills. What about a run-stopping MLB with leadership skills and lots of individual trophies? I forgot to take those into account.

  20. Assuming you get NBC Sports (formerly Versus) you can still catch plenty of games on tv. If I were you I'd watch some of those and see if you are interested in teams outside your immediate area. If you do, Pittsburgh will be on all the time, not that they need any help with fans. It could also be worth it to have an interest in a Canadian team just for the fun, and overabundance of non-television coverage you can find on them.
  21. Can we stop with the Rooney rule subject. Everytime a black guy gets an interview people ask if its token Rooney time. People asked if lovie getting interviews was Rooney related. Just stop. Emery is talking to everybody. If he hadnt already spoken with a minority candidate he would have eventually. And freaking lovie is a well above .500 long tenured head coach as qualified as anybody out there for an interview. Assume it's for football reasons and move on. Well normally I, and probably most others, would assume what you just said. But it's Mike Singletary, if it was an actual qualified minority I wouldn't question if it was just to cover a silly rule. He's a former NFL head coach with a storied past in the franchise. It makes perfect sense that ownership would nudge Emery toward having the interview considering he's already interviewing everybody else. And they already had minority candidates on the docket so there's no reason to bring up the Rooney rule.

  23. Part of me has been thinking Emery is gathering league-wide opinion on Cutler. If he asks everybody, "can you win with Cutler?" Or "what would you need to have to win with Cutler" he can have a better understanding of the potential market for Cutler next offseason or justify his own feelings about the future with Cutler.
  24. It just seems like forever compared to AP's freakish recovery. No, it seems wrong because it's usually a 10-12 month recovery. If they did the surgery this week, for example, I would say November would be about right. In the real world, sure, but it's more fun to imagine Shanahan inflicted more longterm damage. Also, if it could be 12 months to recover and he has the surgery in January 2013, there's probably very little reason to try and get him playing in 2013.
