    I am completely opposed to the suburban ballpark idea, but if they can't get reasonable responses in negotiations they have to explore it.

    He's negotiating on the side of the tax payer (in theory) and has no incentive to do anything but downplay the impact.

    It's more peacocking than spiking the ball in Ricketts face. He's boasting to voters how he was able to avoid screwing them to help a rich man, while keeping the door open to do exactly what the Cubs said they would like to see done.

    Well for one, they are not the furthest from the action (Home runs, hello?). Second anyone sitting in the bleachers can see more of the field than anyone sitting under the deck (I believe the 400 section and beyond). Third, they are not among the most expensive seats in the park, is that some sort of joke? Besides the first few sections around home plate and down the lines, they are the best seats in the park. They are among the more expensive only on the resale market for nice days games. They certainly can be the worst, or among the worst for any one game. And they are at least in the discussion overall. Being close to the occasional homerun is not really close to the action, since most of the action takes place very far from where any homerun lands. A huge part of the upper deck is better than the bleachers. Relatively few seats are actually worse.

    Nah. I'm pretty sure Teo isn't on roids. ...but he thinks he is. He's been taking a placebo for years.

    I think I want to put my money on the trade down. However, Emery wants to take the BPA no matter position and I don't see him as the type to calculate how far down he can trade and still get his guy. I could envision a situation where he planned on trading down, but somebody dropped to him and he just couldn't resist the temptation to take that guy and figure out the other needs later.

    It's more like a couple hundred million per year, and yes, I'd have to assume there is. Live sports broadcasting is about the last cash cow television programming out there. I'm guessing it's mainly because sports are the main thing left where people actually watch commercials because they watch it live. plus it's something people actually are willing to pay for on their bill, and/or freak out about if the channel is unavailable. They don't call 'em fanatics for nothing.

    Prices in the bleachers have plateaued have they not? Plus, it's the bleachers, obstacles to a perfect view are the norm. Also, they aren't just throwing up new walls, they are creating new sources of revenue. They aren't just going to arbitrarily make changes that won't add revenue.

    That reads like the complete opposite of every other American/European story ever written. Take a week off and you'll be left behind? Have more than 2 glasses of wine in Italy and you'll get the stink eye?

    While Callahan is known for being a royal a-hole, isn't Tim Brown a pretty surly dude himself? I agree that the timing is awfully strange.

    This is why I don't go to the Cubs Convention every year. You are surrounded by a majority people who do things like this and they also think we should still have Theriot/Fontenot as our SS/2B combo with Barney at 3B and Campana and Fuld manning the OF. umm, have you seen our current alignment?....just wondering Yes, it's better than it would be with those guys.

    The point is creative sources of revenue from an overly restricted plot of real estate. That is a mighty small price to pay. A whole bunch of seats at Wrigley have some sort of obstructed view. If you can't make it through a game without seeing the entire warning track for some reason, the bleachers aren't the place for you anyway.

    The expansion took place in 2005/06, the fight took place from like 2002-04

    I think you are over glorifying the LB position by a country mile. Also, 30-40 years ago it was much more important than it has been the past decade. Defensive backs and pass rushers have been more important in the modern era.

    Head coaches hire their staff. That doesn't make the bears stupid in the slightest Not always, and not when said head coach had a poor track record on that side of the ball. Its not like there was some urgency to lose the great Mike Tice that you wouldn't wait for the GM even if its the head coaches final say. Going into last year, it would have been totally reasonable to expect a OC decision to at least have heavy influence from the GM.
