  1. Technically, he had a lot of help producing that talent. He must have supplied the raw goods on his own while his wife developed it once they were in the organization.
  2. I may have been wrong on trestman. If he can produce that type of talent with little trestman he may be able to fix the line all on his own.
  3. He's under contract. If Phil wants to keep him (or Marc) I don't know why they just tell him to suck it up. Two reasons, you don't want to poison the waters of your head coach's first staff and that stuff will make it tough to recruit elite coaching talent in the future. You can ask him to reconsider and try to persuade him to stay, but if a DC wants to leave after a HC change, it may just be for the best to let him leave.
  4. I'm not denying that he'll have input. I never denied that he'll have input.
  5. can we choose 2? combine the 3rd and 4th options
  6. -8
  7. Are we waiting on this or not?
  8. yeah, I can't imagine that experiment will continue.
  9. he's going to cut or otherwise release several players, i'm sure. he'll bring in guys that fit his system or whom he feels are better than what he has. i don't know what is so hard to understand about that. He won't be the one bringing them in. That is the point. he won't be the only one bringing them in. your argument has now morphed into a rigid "only personnel guys make personnel decisions." to support your original thesis. i don't know why you paint yourself into corners like that. If you want to describe it as a corner, whatever. I'm very comfortable standing by what I've said on the matter. Trestman won't be the one we'll be counting on to "reform" the offensive line. Emery is.
  10. Who? NFL coaches are either assistant NFL coaches or coaches of very good major college teams, who are very good because they have NFL caliber talent moving on to the next level. ... With the vast majority of those rosters not good enough to play professionally, let alone in the NFL. And the vast majority of opponent rosters. You've taken an obtuse stance you're now forced to defend based on selectively reading quotes from Emery. I've taken the only rational stance. Emery is the personnel man tasked with bringing in the talent. NFL coach/GM relationships vary from team to team, with some GMs being de facto assistants to the head coach. That is not the case with the Bears.

  12. Holding on to what? I'm not talking about reports of an extension from the media. I'm talking about the discussion on here in reaction to those reports.
  13. The point is the offensive line has to be fixed with personnel decisions made by personnel guys. Trestman won't fix it. Personnel decisions will fix it. Montreal media members talking about how Trestman is going to "reform" the offensive line are not saying anything meaningful.
  14. I'm not implying it, I'm saying it. Trestman will not have a huge say on the specific players brought in. His scheme will effect which way Emery goes, and in August he will be the one making decisions on whether to cut guys or not, but he won't be Bill Parcells shopping for his own groceries, a post-Super Bowl Lovie getting specific names he wants. If the offensive line is going to be "reformed" it is going to have to come from personnel men making the right decisions on offensive lineman that are not currently in the organization. did you even listen to emery's press conference? you've taken an idiotic stance and now you're married to it because of your inability to admit that you've ever been wrong. Really? You still want that extension for Lovie?
  15. I just found it amusing that Marc Trestman has a website set up with a list of quotes about how great Marc Trestman is and the first name on the list is a guy who was reportedly happy when he was fired from his job coaching him.

  18. I really don't like that Trestman has that lame website. But I find this amusing. http://www.coachmarctrestman.com/Buzz-about-Marc.html http://jacksonville.com/tu-online/stories/081797/1c1rice_.html
  19. I'm basing it on his complete lack of exposure to top football talent for the past 8 years, the fact that he's a new head coach and working for an organization that has made it clear the GM will make personnel decisions while the coach will coach. Trestman will make decisions about the final roster when it's time to cut guys, but Emery will be the one bringing in the talent.
  20. The Bears are going to have to offer serious extensions to the staff they want to keep on. There has to be payback for forcing them to avoid interviews these past few weeks. I think guys could've gotten interview permission if they wanted to badly enough, or if there was interest. Marinelli is under contract, so the Bears could force the issue, but that may not be ideal, obviously. Well, by all accounts they specifically said their assistants under contract were not allowed to interview, with the exception of Toub since he was given a HC interview with the team, wasn't going to get it, and apparently they wanted to replace him with DeCamillas anyway.
  21. Lovie's effect on personnel decisions did not come into play as much until after he made it to the Super Bowl. i don't think so. lovie had a huge effect o how that d-line was put together, including the tommie harris and tank johnson picks. it was a complete 180 from the jauron era. That was more of an influence in what type of player they needed, not the actual individuals taken. They needed a DT to run the defense. The key is the personnel people selecting the right one. Trestman has been out of the NFL for 8 years, he's not going to be the one selecting offensive linemen.
  22. Lovie's effect on personnel decisions did not come into play as much until after he made it to the Super Bowl. New GM, no idea how Emery will handle this. he was the GM last year when the OL needed reform and he did nothing

  25. Given Jimmy Johnson's "it looks like" tweet, when it certainly didn't look to anybody else that Trestman was the guy, and given the fact that DeCamillas went from supposedly interviewing for the head coach position and then willingly accepting an underling role under Trestman, within hours of the announcement, I think this decision may have been made much earlier than has been reported.
